Zhao and CommanderX way way back in 2009. Back then, ROTR was nothing like it is today.

In ROTR? I think Comr4de was the first person I actually fought, and also did comp stomps with... because before then I rarely did any online play with ROTR. I did some with Shockwave and was fairly good with it, and ZH I did a LONG long time ago...

And yes, I won that first match versus Comr4de. I think I was random that ended up being Russia and he was GLA... but I can't be none to sure these days, it was so long ago.

Can hardly remember it was so long ago, but the first time would've definitely been a very early beta version with other people part of the 2007 SWR relaunch crew, probably a mix of Comr4de/Hunter/Stinger/Revan/Nem/Thez and probably at least one of the many others I've forgotten.

For the people I've played with most, that's probably a mix of Kicho/Nem/Ghostrider and those folks that were most active in the 2007-2009 period, since I think I played more games in those two years of Shockwave and ROTR then the 10 other years I've played ZH put together.

For ROTR I don't really remember as I rarely played it back then.

But I do fondly remember my first online match of Shockwave as well as some amusing moments. I recall my first being on that Armoured Fury map (it was a 3v3) and I was Fai, I recall taking a liking to that Road Grinder APC and more especially, those Officer units, which I made dozens of. I recall Hinata and Alias being present, in fact most of the matches I played involved them.

Some more moments that might amuse you:

-The old Railgun projectile being able to follow any air unit across the map without it actually hitting, produced a rather splendid sight
-Tank bunkers could almost take on any vehicle. The most fun combinations were Hammer Cannons and Adv ECMs
-Chinese missile subs operating on land
-Aurora Humvees
-Vehicles garrisoning train carts and utilising the fireports (Topols and Scuds produced hilarious results I8.gif )
-Losing half of your own base or units because I wasn't sure what that plasma ball of destruction was at first...or how it appeared
-Launching a Nuclear Missile on my own base to stop a single Lotus from capturing my base
-A bomb truck disguising as some building
-Phoenixes and Nuke MiGs failing us an AoD by blasting a super powered unit all the way to the end
-And some more that I can't quite remember

Definitely a lot of good memories over the years... I think I recall about half that list, with several of them being quite distinct memories (the bomb truck bug, the artillery trains and the AOD one for sure, and a few of the others I seem to recall vaguely). Road Grinders and the many other units that were scrapped and replaced (RIP Scud Truck, forever in my heart)... so many memories coming back.

I think my most fun discovery was finding out that terrorists worked from balloons if you told them to evacuate just before they were shot down, and the balloon would explode on its way to the ground, and as it was no long an aerial unit, the AOE would damage units/buildings on the ground. One of my favourite Deathstrike tactics early in 0.95 was to expand the tactic further by using the Hip instead.

It was 1.8, my first match was against...

My first would be HoneyBee. Sadly, in true Zero Hour fashion, the game ended prematurely--her game crashed. But it was still fun.

My very first match was in 1.85.

My opponent? Crimson
The result? Guess who won... 6 minutes and something

It was not that long ago so I should remember well. Unfortunately I did not hit that 'save replay' button at the time so I cannot tell the actual player's name.

Never mind I was playing my favourite solo faction Russia on Frozen Front, and thaught the map was large enough so that I could bunker in a little before I got my first attack force up and running (not that I wanted to make my noobishness so obvious as to turret up all around my base).

Nonetheless I was quite a little slow at the time so at roughly 25 minutes game I felt real secure with 1-2 turrets front of base and a nice little force made up of kodiaks, tunguskas, and burratino.

All was going nice and cool when I discovered that camoed GLA tunnel at the back of my base in the worst manner : seeing two tunnel-full of the most dangerous GLA units popping out all of a sudden from behind my South-West supply. Then I sent my first tiny attack force to defend, and even queued up 2-3 hinds just to entertain the 2 Urals that had deployed right beside my helipad.

No need to say that ownage was real fast on that particular game XD.gif .

So if the player ever recognizes himself I would like to thank him very much for this experience : it directly moved GLA to the first place of my favourite PvP factions.
For sure ROTR is all about the 2 new factions Russia and ECA, but when it comes to PvP, why should I for such give up playing the trickyest, sneakiest, nastiest and most micro-intensive faction throughout all the RTS games that I know ?

Well some events of this year might have given it a bad connotation to be honest. But we're doing e-sport here not politics. So can we just once again stand up and shout :

GLA RULES
