Hello ShockWave fans and followers,

It's been months (even years ?) since you last heard from us and this is the beginning of our icebreaking media campaign.
I know alot of you are not waiting for more render/media updates but bear with us as the upcoming version is no longer dubbed 0.96 beta but is just going to be called 1.0 and will be the final release of this mod.

The navy as has been talked about many times will not become realisation anymore as over time it was realised that it would be to time intensive and to tricky to get it to work right in the mod's enviroment.
Taking that into consideration with all the other things we allready have implemented into the mod it was ultimately decided to drop the navy concept.

Fear not however as we have decided to make things go out with a bang beeing the last major release and will be doing alot of overhauls to both the art, sound and other game mechanics.

as a start off here is a nice render of our new railgun model which was originaly using a model dated back to 2005(!).

That is all for now stay tuned for more.

Is that .96 I hear coming closer? Let's hope it is the case.

Huzzah!

Nice stuff (as always) but you seem to direct-link to the thumbnail image instead of the full sized one. If anyone wants a fix right away, just load the above image, remove the .th portion from the link and reload.

Good to hear that you guys have done away with the navy proposition.

Posted by: Papaya Master Rai 16 Aug 2010, 17:15

The forum keeps having that 404 error, every now and then.Anyways, I love the new design, except I feel it lacks some house colors? May the updates continue and you and your teams determination to grow to accomplish and fulfil to entertain the growing fans of your mods. smile.gif

Posted by: Alias 16 Aug 2010, 17:27

Good to hear, Hunter.

I have my eyes peeled for more. smile.gif

Navy would be rarely used anyway, most of the popular maps are without water to begin with.

Posted by: woxenrud 16 Aug 2010, 19:12

Im glad that you decided to not include a navy. It would probably be hard to balance and it could end up like Red Alert 1, *cough* cruisers *cough*

Posted by: Dutchygamer 16 Aug 2010, 20:27

Aye, good to see that this mod is still alive smile.gif

Posted by: Chyros 16 Aug 2010, 21:41

Like I said, it definitely looks nice. I also appreciate the little bent antenna detail, btw XD.gif .

Posted by: Stalker 16 Aug 2010, 22:42

Nice to see you're back.

About the model:

It has lots of details and the cannon looks good, but overall it's too simple imho.
It kinda looks like a Hetzer/Chameleon with random parts and a different cannon.

Posted by: MR.Kim 17 Aug 2010, 0:00

That's so awesome and glad still alive this mod. I8.gif

Can't wait final release.

Posted by: GuardianTempest 17 Aug 2010, 1:39

Oh finally, thought this would never come back.

Posted by: Pickysaurus 17 Aug 2010, 4:01

Great to hear you're blowing the dust off the old project tongue.gif

Posted by: Zeke 17 Aug 2010, 4:47

In terms of design, I like the old one better.

However the model and skin quality of this one is amazing!

I like the attention to detail smile.gif

Posted by: D' WRTHBRNGR 17 Aug 2010, 5:56

Good to see a little bit of progress here. The model is awesome, especially the barrel (looks like the Chameleon though). aw2.gif

Posted by: Raven 17 Aug 2010, 6:54

Wow....that looks sweet smile.gif and its good to hear the Shockwave is still alive smile.gif. I was beginning to lose hope biggrin.gif

Posted by: Angel 17 Aug 2010, 18:55

I hope after so much time of waiting you can sound the exact date of release? Or it will be as allways "sometime in the near future"?

Posted by: The_Hunter 17 Aug 2010, 19:40

if i would tell you a release date it would have to be met when i'm not sure of at this time so i can't

Posted by: Anubis 17 Aug 2010, 19:44

Glad to see you guys are back in bussines. As for the update ... meh a hetzer with railgun and purple rods. Not really techish and far from the idea of a high tech artillery. I just hope laser stuff wont be more WW2 stuff.

Posted by: The_Hunter 17 Aug 2010, 20:30

We were going to include laser sherman tanks next actualy....

Think of the railgun tank as a cross between artillery and tank destroyer. In such a role, the design is actually quite appropriate. Low profile, front-heavy armour and a large gun that can only aim by moving the entire tank. It just happens to look like the Hetzer because it's actually a pretty reasonable design for a small vehicle that's supposed to snipe tanks.

Posted by: GuardianTempest 18 Aug 2010, 1:42

Or make the design similar to Aleksandr's Railgun Tank.

Posted by: wangho1990 18 Aug 2010, 19:11

So ShW is finally up and running, hurray! Can't wait to see the final version releases.
Just on the new Railgun vehicle though, I like it better than the old Railgun Artillery, although I have to say the two purple "brushes" strapped to its side are really quite a flaw. BTW Townes' special Control Rod also looks really ugly because of the unnatural purple light. Perhaps try some other color like gold?

Posted by: D' WRTHBRNGR 18 Aug 2010, 20:40

As for the navy implementation, it's a wise action to throw it into the trash, since it's already doubtful to do it in time and with limited resources, it's like biting way more than you can chew. I agree with this comment back at the ShW's ModDB page:

QUOTE
Finally some modders who have realized the importance of limiting a mod project. I mean, how many times haven't you read "we going to add ALL the armies of the world and 3 UNIQUE generals for each faction" and it all ends up with a dead mod before its beta release.

Posted by: Pickysaurus 18 Aug 2010, 20:53

Is it going to be the definite final release or will you tinker/patch it if needs be after?

I suspect it's evidence of a translator glitch.... boss/god must've got mixed in there.

Posted by: IonCharge 19 Aug 2010, 22:00

It made me glad to see that there was an update, but damped my feeling when I saw that it would be the final release. It makes me slightly sad to see that the next version will be the last, but nevertheless I hope it will go out in a big bang! av-7.gif

Posted by: dangerman1337 20 Aug 2010, 2:19

There is one thing i wondered is General alexander's planned Plasma superweapon (Wasn't is an upgrade planned for the particle cannon?) Is it going to be implemented. still or was it scrapped? And on more on topic nice cannon biggrin.gif .

Posted by: Generalcamo 20 Aug 2010, 2:22

This might be the last version, but there will likely be patches making things more balanced.

IIRC the team said after the last version they would still support shockwave with pacthes (wouldn't contain any new content i think though).

Zero Hour Shockwave is the only game I have played for years. Looking forward to the update.

Years later, the final ShockWave updates are starting. I remember back to playing .80 4 years ago. This mod has come a long way. I congratulate everyone who has worked with the mod for the past several years. smile.gif

Posted by: Admiral FCS 3 Sep 2010, 10:19

Ohh, wow, finally one of my favourite artillery gets an awesome overhaul. Nice.

Kinda sad to hear that navy isn't gonna happen, but oh well. ShockWave has come a long way from vZH, and yeah, I really agree with Lord Atlantis. It must be proud to see years of work loved by everyone in this community.

Posted by: Negative Zero 4 Sep 2010, 1:59

I love ShockWave and any mod that make their base games what they should have been but as glad as I am to see another update, I just can't see .96 coming anytime soon or even this year.

Posted by: Zeke 4 Sep 2010, 8:00

0.96 ain't comin at all

the next version is 1.0

Posted by: Overdose 5 Sep 2010, 3:56

Quite so, indeed. Yes.

Posted by: Angel 5 Sep 2010, 13:30

Dear Hunter, if you can't say about the date of realise, maybe at least you can please us with the list of changes?

Posted by: Overdose 5 Sep 2010, 14:35

You mean a detailed list of everything? That's way too descriptive. Besides, things always change over development so even if we said something it might be completely different at release or even no longer exist at all.

Hunter however already has detailed the overall goal of the project. That's as much information will be available for a while.

Posted by: Waris 5 Sep 2010, 14:49

LoC usually comes with release anyway, not before it.

Posted by: Angel 5 Sep 2010, 17:12

Is it so hardly to share the information with the SW community? Why it's need such conspiracy during modmaking? There is no dates, no lists, there is nothing. Screenshots of models is useless bullshit. I wanna see the detailed description of these (and other) units, and not their models. And I don't think I ask too much.

Oh calm down. I don't see where you are getting conspiracies from. Overdose clearly stated that if they were to get a list of change, it would take way too much time for such little worth, and that would eat up time that could move the mod forward. It usually comes after everything is done that you list the changes out.

And then, relating to Overdose's post again, things can change, balance can be done, so it would be no use to do it in the middle of development, but would be better once it is done.

You're clearly new to SWR's way of working. They don't give us release dates, and the details of most things are unknown to the General Public until the mod's next version is released. So just sit tight, and wait for 1.0. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

SWR newbie i guess smile.gif. Wait till the release biggrin.gif and be patient. Also I don't think we'll have a heck of lot of new units. Only a few new ones and tweaked existing ones. So most of the unit descriptions are already available to you with the current release.

No , Angel is not a newbie and probably has bein around longer then some of the beta testers , its not that hard to show even a basic list like contra does , balance changes , engine changes , etc.

For example

- Battlemaster HP reduced from 400 to 200

Not hard.

Posted by: Shock 7 Sep 2010, 13:46

What would be the use of releasing the changelog if it isn't final? Releasing the changelog and then at release say ''wait but we changed this and this and this''.

Also we are not secret conspirators. I agree that secrecy worked in the past when Shockwave had more buzz and released frequent updates, and it kind of fails at the moment, but if you just ask questions there is big chance that we might just answer them as well.

Posted by: Angel 7 Sep 2010, 19:23

Ok, the concrete questions in this case:

1. Is armor of Granger's aircraft will be less, and if yes, how much more low?
2. Is range of USA rocket soldiers will be less, and if yes, how much more low?
3. Is price of toksin grenader will be less, and if yes, how much more low?
4. Is armor of Salvage general defences will be less, and if yes, how much more low?
5. Is quad cannons will stop crush everything, and if yes, can we show conrete numbers, percents of changes?
6. Can you sound all I ask without waiting of my questions, or you're too lazy for it?

Posted by: Darkfire Angel 7 Sep 2010, 20:15

Geez guy, I honestly don't get why you're so poed that the team don't jump and release info as you want. If you don't like how they're doing things throwing your toys around and insulting them isn't going to change anything. Do you demand the same thing of full time game developers? I doubt it. I get that you're impatient but acting like a brat won't endure you to anyone and makes it less likely that anything will happen.
I think it's been said enough times that a change log prerelease would be pointless, and given your current attitude you'd probably throw your toys if the anything changes during dev.

Posted by: Chyros 7 Sep 2010, 23:54

I'll try and answer as much as I can from memory. The public release is so long ago I have difficulties remembering what was public and what wasn't. I can't give you concrete numbers, and if I could, I wouldn't.

1. Is armor of Granger's aircraft will be less, and if yes, how much more low?
The aircraft are nerfed iirc.

QUOTE
2. Is range of USA rocket soldiers will be less, and if yes, how much more low?
All rocket soldiers will take a hit iirc.

QUOTE
3. Is price of toksin grenader will be less, and if yes, how much more low?
Iirc, it hasn't been changed, which is a buff compared to other toxin units.

QUOTE
4. Is armor of Salvage general defences will be less, and if yes, how much more low?
Significantly. Ironside's defences are massively overpowered.

QUOTE
5. Is quad cannons will stop crush everything, and if yes, can we show conrete numbers, percents of changes?
Indirectly, as I recall.

QUOTE
6. Can you sound all I ask without waiting of my questions, or you're too lazy for it?
Excuse me?

What is iirc and nerfed? I can't translate these words. smile.gif And thanks for answers.

Posted by: MR.Kim 8 Sep 2010, 1:30

iirc mean is "If I remeber correctly" and nerfed mean is a change to a game that reduces the desirability or effectiveness of a particular game element. Check wikipedia by yourself next time.

Now back to topic. I hopefully bring back Single player campaign in final version or don't it?

Posted by: General Specific 8 Sep 2010, 5:23

Will they be sending out a mass email to all the members when the next version gets released?

YEAAAAAA!!!

I stop checking on this mod, and look what I miss!

When I heard that Shockwave was going to be on the back burner, I thought it would be years before I saw the final release. Good to hear that I was wrong.

I don't mind the loss of the navy, sounded a little to ambitious for this engine anyways.

Keep up the good work devs! Looking forward to the final release!
