Dawn of War III has just been announced!

What do you think of it and what do you expect?
Impressive render trailer. The apprearance of the Imperial Knights suggests there might be more stuff than initially meets the eye. We'll have to see what the actual game will look and feel like, though.
I don't judge a game base on trailers most of the time. Gotta wait.
They said that big armies are back, and that's good for me.
My favorite faction is IG. If this is like the last games then I'll have to wait for the expansions then.
It's always orks and eldars first...
The "screenshots" look like Photoshop mock-ups, I wouldn't use them for judgement.
This is the start of wh40k games being made! It's time for this universe to be known to all! The grim future has started!
Already better than 2. Im sure a lot of people already think that as well for the sheer aspect there's base building and larger armies.
Space marines dont look buff enough, like thoose marines shoulder pads cant be used as cover by 2 heavy weapons teams each.
Eldar dont seem to have ny craftworld markings. Not to mention we see blood ravens a temple and hive world...
So we will learn who their primarch is??
Its ba-
WHO AM I FUCKING KIDDING
ALL ABOARD THE HYPE TRAIN!
SCREENSHOTS ARE ALPHA MATERIAL POSSIBLY BUT TRAILERS EPIC
No Imperial Guard =/= No buy. It's always Space Marines this, Space Marines that. For once I'd like a grizzly war shooter where you play as a lowly Imperial Guardsman. That'd be awesome!
reading on the announced features, looks like DoW3 will be pretty similar to CoH (the first one, not CoH2) in gameplay. looking forward to it.
Only 3 factions for the base game.
I guess I'll be waiting a year or so after release.
I'm hoping the 'elite units unlock system' isn't anything like the commander garbage in Company of Heroes 2, as that will almost ruin the rest of the game for me.
I'm pretty sure they will add new factions such as Imperial Guard ,Chaos Space Marine or both for Expansion.
Personally I have the feeling there'll be a fourth faction yet to be released which will most likely be the Necrons given a quote from the (old) Necron codex was used at the beginning of the trailer as well as the fact that along with Chaos and the Tyranids they are the one of the three greatest threats to life in the galaxy. From the DoW 2 years I remember that the Tyranids took a little while to be revealed and initially it was just Space Marines, Orks and Eldar, which in the scheme of things I'm not really complaining, it's a good base to start with. Given the inclusion of the Necron Overlord as a Last Stand Character in order to reinvigorate interest in Dawn of War, I'd put my money on the Necrons as a fourth faction and the big bad one that the Orks, SMs and Eldar have to face.
A lot of people have been complaining that Chaos hasn't featured in this which I think is fair enough criticism, yet I reckon the Necrons would make a more interesting adversary as we haven't seen them in a game since their (substantial) Codex overhaul and the new Crons will be quite interesting.
But hey also Gabriel Angelos, Gorgutz and Macha are all back and if they're facing the Necron threat (who along with IG, Tau and Tyranids are my favourite) this will be epic. Kinda makes me wish that Retribution ended with a massive all out war where the factions and Chaos and the Necrons just fought it all out in an epic battle.
Also those screenshots, I have a feeling they're photoshops mixed with pre-alpha so they haven't really dented my hype (except that cover system, wtf is going on there) but either way the weapons effects look pretty good and given the release date is 2017 there's plenty of time.
To round it all off, all aboard the hype train, TW Warhammer may be weighed down by this unneccessary bullshit but I've waited too long for Dawn of War III, here we come.
I dont know what to say. I look at the terrain and I miss the dow 2 terrain. But then,I see the buildings!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyspr4Tkt58
The terrain's cartoonish look gives me a Dota 2-like feel imo... and i don't know if it's a good thing or not..
But it's still pre-alpha so who knows how it'll turn out later on
The whole teaser looks like it was running at 20 fps which looks really bad.
^Good meme
And I cant say I enjoyed the alpha or gabes voice change...Also I dont see much cover or much tactics, just open ground models blasting lazer guns at each other.Terry crews needs to go In the midde and yell abit about old spcie
That Titan looks really, really small and underpowered.
The new gameplay demo did smooth some things over with me and overall it's looking alright.
However the Cover and the graphics are still annoying me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93Wn7YUGaWI
Clarity?! There's no such thing in the grim darkness of the far future!
I didn't think it's possible but it looks even worse than Starcraft 2.
This looks suck IMO. The shiny terrain is one thing, the giant, oversized hero unit jumping around is another. As big as a dreadnought and at the same time agile like an Eldar, really?
Also the FX. Too cartoonish.
I don't care if that help identify shits during intense battles, it's just not what I want to see.
Gameplay reasons over aesthetic? Not in a W40K game, please.
This is old. But,for those who havent seen it. Why arent they aiming for a quality like this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5Yz6HXsuA8
IMO super units tend to be bad for gameplay (usually has an artificial unit cap and always either way too strong or easily countered and thus not worth the cost). Cartoony terrain doesn't fit this sort of game but I guess it was probably easier to work with. Also looks like there's no base building and RTS elements are minimal, which is disappointing.
Maybe the gameplay will gel well once the game leaves its alpha/beta, but core fundamentals don't seem very appealing for those that want something more similar to DoW1 rather than DoW2.
Base building is confirmed. Im not sure about how the final game will be. :/ Im quite nervous actually.
That's it! Dawn of War III will be like the RA3 of the C&C series.

But that terrible voice for Angelos
If we could all just not presume how a game would be like until it is out and reviewed, that would be great. I find making opinions and presumptuous to be simple moot at the moment given how little we've seen of the game thus far. I'm almost willing to make the claim that were it a carbon copy and we took the nostalgia goggles out, you'd find the first to be lack luster.
I will wait and reserve any opinions until several reviews are out, or I get my hands on it. I can already hear the bandwagons boarded up with nitpickers coming.
There are some things we can gather from that gameplay demo though, it's quite lengthy so there are some things it delves into with some depth. The cover now being a capturable objective for some reason instead of part of the environment is one of these things, which to me seems to be a completely silly mechanic considering the cover mechanics they had previously were perfectly fine. Just seems like the usual case of one step forward, three steps back that many developers seem to be so keen on recently.
That's not to say that won't change in the future, but currently it's looking quite grim. I lost faith in Relic after COH2, and I can definitely see some of the pay2play rubbish that permeated that game be adapted to the W40K environment (in fact, it's ripe for it, unfortunately).
It was fine back then, it shouldn't be a problem now. Not everything have to be esport competitive standard.
Beside, confusing everyone with lots of shits on the screen at a time is a legit way of playing.
Some more analysis by Arch Warhammer, and his current verdict isn't so good:
And I agree, there's some real potential for big problems in this. I'll remain skeptical until I see the final product, of course, but I said it before that this looks like Star Crap but not Dawn of War and the mechanics seem to agree as well, not just the art direction.
The comments.
"In the cringe darkness of the 21st century, there is only MOBA."
That annoying servitor and it's annoying animation. White lasers.

'..A godhammer" K
Can't spell ignorant without IGN.
The guy who is commentating is so confident about Gabriel Angelos,"leaping great distances"
Hmmm, although we all know that we have no good expectation from Dawn of War 3. I have to say that their models are really nice!
If the 'large battles' that they say is really going to happen. Those who are going to play this game need to upgrade their rig.

Where the fuck are the sync kills?
For something set in the grimdark 41st millennium, it looks clean.
I want sync kills that involve my enemies getting disemboweled and writing in pain. Sync kills where someone gets a sword shoved through their torso and are cut in half vertically. Sync kills that have someone's head and spine literally getting torn out of their body. Sync kills where someone steps on a Lego.
I could give forgive them for all that shit if they added that in.
Between the lack of sync kills, dynamic soldier movements, a proper cover system and a slew of other things I can honestly say that I am not interested in this game. It might end up being a good game in the end, who knows. But it is not going to be a DOW game. And if I want to play starcraft I'll play starcraft.
Well,I guess those who have played the previous games have the same problem and complaint about the game. It's just infuriating that the devs arent addressing the voice of the fans, but rather who they want to reach out, which are indefinitely the moba players.
On the contrary. They are addressing us. Their actions speak louder than any words ever could. And what they are saying is nothing short of flipping us off.
As much as people hate soulstorm it was the first and last w40k game where you can play as Dark Eldar and Sisters.
Was full of hope for DOW2 expansions, and was disappointed when retribution was the last one, and only 5 races. But at least they tried.
DOW 3 seems to be following the generic multiplayer centric RTS formula, the less faction, less unit, less complicated mechanics the easier it is to balance and make things easier for even people who doesn't know what 40k is to get used to.
And if that is the case, then why bother?
Perhaps.
But if less mean never get to be what you truely want, then it's obviously a hopeless cause.
I don't play games because just I want to own people and shit. I don't need things to be "hurr durr numbers xxxx, graphics and whatever doesn't matter as long as it help me beat all the noobs playing as random faction." A game that cater toward this kind of audience always have problems, mainly that they will reject everything that doesn't get along with the "gaming" part.
As there are guys who smash all the buttons for the heck of it. there are people who intentionally prolong a match just to look at the pretty scenes.
I'm not sure which is the best, but I do prefer a game for the later.
I dont know what to say anymore. But the building models looks waaagh! as f

Is that ork or a Chaos/Tyranid base? It's like they've been possessed.
Is my first thought.
Not gonna comment on how silly of a lightshow the battlefield became.
the more i see of this game the less inviting it looks.
its way too colorful o.o lets add more flashy lights
My problem isn't even the art, I honestly feel that is fine. It's the game mechanics that were dumbed down to be just too MOBA, with a focus like Warcraft. I thought waiting a bit to see more would give me a proper opinion of it but I'm just seeing it as a dumbed down Company of Heroes.
Like, seriously, they - just - needed to recreate CoH (no not 2, 2 was fine but 1 was the prime) in its normal form, but I have a strong feeling that because they're trying to branch this off of Company of Heroes for the sake of making different franchise gameplay styles is going to backfire.
Maybe in a few expansions or, hell, with enough backlash they'll fix it but, this is really looking more and more - and i absolutely hate using this half the time baseless default response of 'E-sports-sy' but this game is looking more like it's trying to use micromanagement in any way it can(Use your mouse to help your space marine breathe!) to show it can differentiate from the previous Dawn of Wars and other RTS' for the sake of doing something new. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but that also carries the risk of it not being good because it's trying to be something it's not, and this isn't a League of Legends, or DOTA, this was the RTS' that brought RTS into the limelight that - wasn't - Starcraft. I'm about to just call it and say it was a corporate decision to simply make this different from Company of Heroes just to make DoW not be a reskin (which is ironic because it was DoW that set the bar for it) or they're trying too hard to be different again.
Either way it'll always be subjective but this still feels far too dumbed down. I despise the fact they rid of the cover system proper, building bases seems far too dumbed down and not exciting (where is my IG planes coming down with construction equipment, alarms, lights?) maybe I'm being too harsh on that one though. What I'm not liking seeing, and this might be the terrible editing on IGN's behalf of putting high energy music on very dry, extended shots, but the gameplay literally looks like hordes of units standing still, taking shots like fucking target practice - they should have mixed in melee to make these shots aesthetically pleasing (again this might be the terrible editing job of IGN's footage).
All in all, art wise I think it's spot on, but I think most fundamental opinions on this lay on how the game is structured mechanically that is going to make this fail. I gripe at the idea that it might be only after backlash, people bitching and moaning that they'll "fix" some of it with expansions. At that point it'll be too late.
TLDR Might have to get this only after it's cheap.
PS: Wrote this while at work so it may not be a cohesive written opinion. Read with care.
And don't even get me started on the whole micromanagement thing. If there is something I hate in a strategy game its having to babysit every single unit all the time. Abilities should be rare special things that make a lot of difference and not common but minor crap you have to constantly refresh to keep your units working. As far as I am concerned Starcraft 1 had it about right when it came to how abilities work.
I understand. There is a reason why I can never get used to games like Men Of War. Oh gosh, every single infantry die so quick yet you have to freaking equip them with items, use god know how many abilities and have to count how many bullets they have left. Make me wonder why I don't just ignore it and get an all tanks group instead.
World in Conflict and RA3, was the best when it come to abilities. You don't need so many at once for it to be good, and none of them are useless.

Can't say I like Gabriel's new face. Granted, he's mortally wounded but it could have been better, right?
Surely wh40k has better techpriests than the one who 'fixed' him. And bionics, right?
http://www.moddb.com/mods/ultimate-apocalypse-mod
You know you fucked up when a mod is more like Dawn of War 3 than the actual game.
The poor 40k universe gets always lashed on.
Speaking of being vigilant.
This is now on my shit list. Going to wait a long time for it.
yeaaa.....
the single player has to be the best thing since sliced bread if this wants to get any of my attention or money for that matter.
Oh! necro thread! Yeah, I kinda did a rant when I saw that.
>one game mode
>lane based
>turrets
>skin packs before release
>everything else
This shit can't get even more disappointing was what I thought. Apparently I was wrong.
"Launch with 1 freaking MP mode"
This or Tiberian Twilight, I'm not sure what is the worse between 2 of them.
"You know what Dawn of War needs? MOBAs!"
-Relic, probably.
There are few redeeming qualities I see in it so far. The graphics style is attrocious, not because of flashy lights, I like flashy lights, the problem is that you can't see shit. Dawn of the Ancients isn't exactly what I was hoping for in DoW3. I vote for Exterminatus, anyone else?
Jesus Christ, Relic, at least market it is a spinoff, not a main series game. I thought CnC4 was a good enough lesson in how-not-to-market-a-game.
Dawn of War 3 was a huge mistake.
I think so as well. I dunno, maybe call it Warhammer 40,000: Line Breaker, or something similarly epic that plays on the way it works. Calling it "Dawn of War" is like calling "Tiberium Twilight" a CnC game.
