SWR Productions Forum _ Games Discussion _ DirectX error

Posted by: Oldschool22 25 Oct 2015, 22:48

For over a year i have struggled to find out why C&C Zero Hour isnt working on my computer, after numerous uninstall/reinstall, origin download, internet forums and youtube, it appears that its DirectX that is to blame, from what i understand the game requires DirectX 8.1, i do not know which version is on my computer ( i suspect DirectX 11, not sure though) an before you ask why it took over a year, i am very lazy

I guess I'll just ask the simplest question: did you try to upgrade direct x?

install the latest direct x see if it works, if its giveing you the error:
This game requires directx 8.1 blah blah blah

just go in ur game folder and delete the file dbghelp.dll

also if your running windows xp service pack 2 or any os after that you have at liest DirectX 9.0c by default.
to see what directx you have just open the start menu and in the search bar type in dxdiag.exe

(sorry for such a long reply) i did delete the dbghelp.dll folder and i do have DirectX 11, however, the shortcut does say its on xp service pack 2, but the launcher (in the folder itself) is stuck (wont let me change it) on xp service pack 3
