Ive been making random models biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

If there are any texture artists or skinners out there, I could use a couple lessons, because I have no idea how to skin/make textures.

Here is my British Warrior IFV. No, its not a Bradley. I might donate this to Assault Horizon mod.

PolyCount: 1100
You can't really see the tip of the gun that well though (stupid render)
Tell me what u guys think! Constructive critisism is appreciated, but dont be a jerk tongue.gif

[also notice my epic signature xD ]

I googled what the real one looks like;

From BF2

From the real life version

I'd have to say you got the main model quite good, I like it smile.gif

But I have to ask about the wheels?
Im no modeler so I dont know what comes first so...
Is a hexagon the final version of it?

Posted by: InsurgentCell 20 Feb 2013, 13:27

I used hexagonal to save polygons. I want to use this model in a mod, and too many polygons will lag the game down
I might redo the periscopes though, the don't seem right :/

Posted by: CoLT 20 Feb 2013, 15:53

It looks well detailed smile.gif You might want to increase the polygons on the wheels. 8 is sufficient. 6 just looks a little weak imo. Also, the turret is slight wider although the height is correct on your model. The turret sides are also flatter, not as angled as you have. Hope this helps. Great model, though. You're getting good smile.gif

EDIT: Although I'm sure you did this for realism sake, the wheels should all follow the same alignment. It makes it easier to rig and animate. Varying the orientation is good for static models or for stuff that won't move after it's done.

Posted by: InsurgentCell 20 Feb 2013, 22:21

Okay, I'll take your word for it. Changing the wheels to 8 shouldn't cause a big uprising in polys, I don't think.
I was planning to make this for another mod, so I guess if the coding works better without the different orientation, I'll make them straight.

Also, do you think I should add the armor skirts on the sides, like in USABruce's first pic?

Posted by: InsurgentCell 21 Feb 2013, 4:26

Okay, I took all of your suggestions into consideration and made an updated model.

How does it look?
CHANGES:
Flattened turret sides
Widened turret
Made wheels octogonal

Posted by: InsurgentCell 22 Feb 2013, 23:19

Looks like I'm up to no good again biggrin.gif
Seems CoLT needs to give me some more work, becuz I have another one aw.gif

Its the canadian LAV-25

Also planning to give mister OutcastOne and his mod. I hope he doesnt mind me sharing these models... I know CoLT would kill me if I leaked anything XD.gif

Posted by: simeon5541 4 Mar 2013, 15:41

I think that you are really good CeLL smile.gif
Hope you will learn to do some basic textures,
colors gives life to anything . . . OK not to corpses . . . Hm . . . Anyway keep it up !

Posted by: InsurgentCell 7 Mar 2013, 22:48

Thanks, simon!
Here is a WIP model I made for Assault Horizon. Guess what it is!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AS-90

Tell me what you guys think, constructive critisism is appreciated, as always!

Spring break is coming up soon, which gives me some free time. I'll make some models, and try to texture some. I also want to try to make some particle effects, but it seems kinda complicated shit.gif

Posted by: (USA)Bruce 8 Mar 2013, 6:23

I will always confuse the real life paladin with its chineese cousin and now this british brother it has....
So I guessed wrong tongue.gif

But Is the turrent scale right? Looks like the guns a tad too big Cell other then that it looks fine

Posted by: InsurgentCell 8 Mar 2013, 22:13

Yeah, the gun is a bit too thick, but I changed it. I'm just too lazy to upload an updated model tongue.gif

Posted by: InsurgentCell 27 Mar 2013, 2:09

Okay, I made a model and tried to make my own textures and UMV unwrap it and such, and I gotta say, its pretty hard! I have no idea how you people texture your crap but it looks amazing, and must've taken up a lot of time.

Anyway, here is my first shot at making and mapping a texture for a basic German Leopard tank.

And a little fun render

Well, constructive critisism, tips, and tricks are all appreciated! I hope you like it! Just dont be too hard on it... its my first textures. And yes, the wheels are... weird. They don't quite fit.

Hey, I made a Pop-Up Turret. Its not based on anything in particular, though i did get my design concept from multiple sources.

I also made a short animation on it, poping up, but I don't know how to embed videos...

You can try to make them into a gif.

I cannot speak for everybody, but for me it's basically: Google + Experimentation + Practice

Your texture needs more texture tongue.gif Try playing around with the Pattern Overlay filter to mis things up a bit.

It also needs more stuff like bolts panels and lines. If you haven't already, learn to use Pen/Shape tools of Photoshop, it will help you a lot in this.

Play around with all the different filters in photoshop and experiment, leanr what they do, mix and match, until you get the effect you want.

One more thing, general rule of thumb when making renders with ground textures: "if you can see the texture repeat that means you've gone too far"

There's also this youtube video: http://youtu.be/Oht29ThPbFc

It's part of a series intended to make 3ds max easier to use. Requires basic knowledge of the basic functions of 3ds max but after that this will speed it up and make life easier.

Posted by: InsurgentCell 30 Apr 2013, 2:56

Thanks for the tips, Zeke, and CoLT.

Right Now, I've finished unwrapping another tank, but I'm not too sure what to do with making the texture. I'm still a newbie with photoshop tongue.gif

LOL MY TEXTURE SKILLS ARE SO BAD XD.gif

Check this out!!

Hahaha, its horrible, I know. It would probably be a lot better if the "green" was a lot lighter.

Tips and tricks, is VERY APPRECIATED. From the looks of this, you can all guess im still an UBER NOOB at texturing XD

Posted by: CoLT 1 May 2013, 8:06

Check out this video playlist. Might help. Covers most of the basics.

Otherwise, once I have a crack at the KV-2 model, I'll send you a link to the PSD file and you can try to figure it out from there.

Well, it doesn't look like I need much of a render to figure out the problem here xD

OKAY SINCE MY TEXTURING IS REALLY BAD I DECIDED TO MAKE SOMETHING REALLY SIMPLE
BUT ITS STILL REALLY AWESOME.

The Vital Apparatus Vent will deliver a Weighted Companion Cube in three, two, one.

This Weighted Companion Cube will accompany you through the test chamber. Please take care of it.
The Enrichment Center reminds you that the Weighted Companion Cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.

In the event that the weighted companion cube does speak, the Enrichment Center urges you to disregard its advice.

If it could talk - and the Enrichment Center takes this opportunity to remind you that it cannot - it would tell you to go on without it because it would rather die in a fire than become a burden to you.

You did it! The Weighted Companion Cube certainly brought you good luck.

However, it cannot accompany you for the rest of the test and, unfortunately, must be euthanized.

Rest assured that an independent panel of ethicists has absolved the Enrichment Center, Aperture Science employees, and all test subjects of any moral responsibility for the Companion Cube euthanizing process.

HAHAHA YEAH BABY I MADE A COMPANION CUBE

I found some spare time and started on a nuclear submarine. I named it the Lotan Class.

I'm planning to texture this one. Since it's a submarine, it should be easier than a tank or truck. Good practice fo me biggrin.gif

Constructive criticism is always welcomed! You can say it sucks, as long as you have a valid reason happy.gif

Great work,I would really want to see more in future.
You should do ships for ROTR. smile.gif

Anyway, i just made an amazing accomplishment because this time my texture ACTUALLY LOOKS PRETTY LEGIT happy.gif
Check it out, its the LOTAN CLASS NUCLEAR SUBMARINE biggrin.gif

I made a vulcan cannon some while ago. Might as well show it, I think it's pretty good.

Posted by: __CrUsHeR 17 Jan 2014, 15:03

You really evolved much since the first time presented their models. smile.gif

Posted by: InsurgentCell 9 Feb 2014, 23:15

Thanks smile.gif I would like to make more of them but school and extra-curriculars are getting in the way tongue.gif

Posted by: DarkyPwnz 21 Feb 2014, 12:55

Your submarine sucks!

...water in to fill its ballast tanks in order to submerge.

Posted by: InsurgentCell 5 Apr 2014, 17:10

So yeah I found more time to do modeling ... and I did. I think she's lookin pretty good dere. smile.gif

The 122mm Mehmed Artillary Cannon was developed in Turkey in the mid 2020s . This cannon was developed for fast artillery support for the front lines.

Though the cannon takes longer to set up than the Paladin or AS-90, it can travel at speeds of up to 90km/h and can be easily transported on light amphibious transports and heavy aircraft. The reload mechanism is manual, howevever many automated machines help the crew load and unload the shells and gunpowder with greater speed. The high tech targetting system inside the main cabin allows the Mehmed to communicate with front line soldiers to pinpoint targets up to 20km away. Though protected by a .50 caliber machine gun, the Mehmed is very vulnerable, and should stay protected behind the front lines.
