I haven't heard the words freeware and shareware since like vanilla Doom.

And no, there isn't any other option. Unless you want to have an ugly watermark getting in the way or only recording 12 second long videos.

When I asked in this http://forums.swr-productions.com/index.php?showtopic=1566 what was the font used in the in-game/menu interfaces in Call of Duty 4, which was http://www.fontfactory.com/font_info.php/font_id/4798/manufacturers_id/69?sid=e49ba469c0b1edb5623cd56e9eaaef37 as I've found out, it nearly gave me http://noentendo.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/fuuuu.jpg when it turned out to be that kind of font was EXCLUSIVELY COMMERCIAL (US$50-120 IIRC) AND THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ANY FREE VERSIONS AVAILABLE.

Fraps, in its free edition, can record up to 30 seconds of videos at a time AFAIK.

There's http://www.gamecamportal.com/, which also has a limited feature, free version, and should cost you 30 bucks if you're gonna opt for a full version of it. And BTW, again, there's no such thing as a game recording software as a freeware available, to date at least.

If you are using XFire, it has a video capture feature.
