I have windows 8, and the version of Generals and Zero Hour I want to mod are the version that comes with the Command and Conquer Ultimate Edition thing that comes with Everything from the original game to C&C4...

I say this because it may be a source of problem for those who try to help me...

I installed the full game version 1.7(something), and then installed 1.801...

Then when I went to play it, nice touch with it being a separate start up from the Vanilla game by the way, and I got a message that I installed the stuff on the wrong folder.

I uninstalled them, both the original 1.7something and 1.801 were separate programs in my Programs Management thingie...

I'm trying to contact you guys because I would like input on what I did wrong on installation because I really want to play the mod.

Problem, I don't have a rar unpacking thingie, and I can't find one on the app store...

sorry I'm causing trouble...

Posted by: Pickysaurus 6 Feb 2013, 21:46

I use this unZipper http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-GB/app/uncompress/47925c5f-c967-468f-8b5f-b68f48f83236
Though you can always get the normal ones from the web. You aren't forced to use the Store on Windows 8

Posted by: GeneralHawke 7 Feb 2013, 18:26

It still says I installed it in the wrong folder...

Posted by: Geth Prime 9 Feb 2013, 21:00

It is the same for me. I'm reinstalling RotR and the "moron, not in right folder" thing keeps happening. Mr. Kim's link has no use to me either.

I think I have it. I also just right away downloaded 1.8. Do I need to install 1.7 or some other one first?

Posted by: wargame 10 Feb 2013, 16:20

u dont need 1.7 of ROTR just 1.8 and 1.8001 patch is all you need

make sure your ZH version is 1.04 and at least no other mod inside ZH folder

oh wait...

Btw C&C UE doesn't support mod as i remember rite?

I downloaded 1.8. I just wanted to install 1.8. I did not download any other mod inside of my ZH folder, and I'm pretty sure the version is 1.04 (ZH just crashes every time I try to start it..)

as do I.

Can anyone confirm or deny the UE Games not supporting Mods?

If that is the case, I could probably find a non-UE copy of Generals: ZH, and install it on that one...

Actually Ultimate Edition Version of Zero Hour can play mods. Just search on Command and Conquer Forums Fix-Luancher thingy I forgot whats its called you have to download some launcher to able to play mods like ROTR. Even though I don't have UE. And make sure you installed ROTR 1.8 then 1.801 orderly.

Too complicated. I can't understand it. And I don't have the UE.

Nothing simple? Looks that way.

I thought you said your not using the UE, so why would you need it?

Not sure if this is a typo but your supposed to install V1.8 and 1.81

Also when you installed did you check the install directory? By default it points to the normal ZH (non UE) directory, make sure it's pointing to the UE one.

@Geth Prime: What version of Zero Hour are you using, if it's true that you've not using the UE then why are you in this thread?

Because this thread is NOT about the UE. It's about ME HAVING A WINDOWS 8 PROBLEM.

And my Zero Hour crashes so I do not know.

Last time I checked, your not the one who started this thread, and according to the first post this is more or less a UE problem.

I meant, is it regular ZH, First Decade, or some other version that's not UE.

If your using the first decade make sure you installed the mod in the correct ZH directory. By default, the mod installer will try to install it in the regular ZH directory.

Isn't the UE version the same?

I'm pretty sure I have 1.04.

And, should I make a different topic? This is the same problem after all.

I feel like only half of my posts are being read...

The game itself is the same but there are small differences like the install directory.

QUOTE

I'm not sure if your even having the same problem because your not answering ALL my questions namely:
1. What version of ZH do you have? (regular, First Decade, UE, or others)
2. Are you sure, you installed the mod in the right directory? (If your version is anything but regular ZH)

GeneralHawke's problem was that UE can't play mods without the modified launcher. You don't have the UE, so your problem is probably different. I'm pretty sure the problem is not windows 8 either, because people like Picky was able to play ROTR with no problems.

No wonder he can't even do a proper mod install. Reading this convo between the 2 of you made me facepalm hard. To this day will never frekin understand what is so hard to install a mod.

As an advice Geth - try to answer the fken questions. Despite your attitude Zeke is still trying to help you. Which is alot more than you would get from most people with that attitude. You don;t know shit since you can't even do a fken simple install, so stop acting like it.

1. A cracked version that won't even open because I lost my original. Well, if anyone can point me to a working free version of zero hour, I'd be happy because I had already bought zero hour.
2. I'm not sure what I did. I downloaded the 1.8 version and made a new place for it. Hint : Zero Hour wasn't in there. Besides, my folder containing zero hour contains a torrent document, an info document with, what, like, 2 lines, and I think Zero Hour.. In its installation form.

@Anubis I'm not going to even respond to those insults. Its not a "FKEN SIMPLE INSTALL" if I plainly download it like in videos and it doesn't work

Posted by: Pogie4 17 Feb 2013, 3:55

Why do you download a cracked version of the game? Anyway make sure that cracked ZH is 1.4, and download and install 1.8 then 1.801.

I'll download a version that works and get back to ya. So I place it in the ZH folder?

BIG HUGE EDIT :

IT WORKS. Finally. All it took was a new zero hour download.

Actually "IT FKEN IS". SWR mods are one of the easiest to install. You simply double click the installer, follow the instructions, and your done.

I think your real problem is that your too lazy to read instructions carefully.

I said I got it, but..

The problem was my extremely faulty zero hour version.

Uninstalling it saved me.

An accident turned out to be really good.
And so, after a tedious time installing Zero Hour and generals, I found RotR suddenly in my zero hour folder.

Well, I've made a complete fool of myself. But I don't care because at least you guys helped.. Somewhat.
