Looking at buying a Smartphone atm, what do people have and what are people's thoughts?

I'm currently looking at the HTC Hero atm, though the Motorola Sholes is looking pretty awesome as well if the rumoured specs are accurate.

I'm not so keen on the iPhone. Just seems Appple 'locks you out' to a degree (Nonreplacable battery, no microSD, everything is through itunes, etc.)

Maybe just get a notebook with Skype? Pretty much the same as a smart phone

Apart from the whole 'phone' part.

Indeed a smartphone is a phone with multimedia capabilities, and a laptop with skype is a multimedia tool with phone capabilities.

Don't get an IPhone, it doesn't even have bloody bluetooth, if I've heared correctly.
Not to mention all of apple's DRM shit.

A good friend of mine has one of these and he seems pretty content with it. Pretty much has anything I'd ever want. Not having a Smartphone personally, though, I can't comment any more.

The iPhone has bluetooth, and what DRM?
The sheer mass of apps makes the iPhone worth it.

iPhone bluetooth can't even be used to send files.

I assume by DRM you're referring to Apple's 'lock the user out of their phone' approach.

I'd never consider getting an iphone tbh, the app store is the best thing going for it. The Android app store is just starting to take off from what I've heard.

My mom haves that phone and yeah it's a really good phone. Only the camera sucks a bit.

Symbian's 5th edition S60 is far inferior to all touchscreen OS's including Windows Mobile. I would advise the new Motorola DEXT if you want Android. You could possibly hold out for a GSM Palm Pre as well. And the Storm 2 from BB looks to be the Total opposite of the fail the first one. And finally the rumored HTC Leo is supposed to be a beast. iPhone is kinda meh to me after using it. Sure it has the snappy graphics, but I can't customize it the way I want. That's why I love my Touch HD onto which I am about to flash a custom Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM. xda-dev FTW.

I'm more or less convinced the Motorola Sholes will be the phone to get, being the flagship for the Android 2.0 launch.

I'm fairly sure the Cliq isn't using Android 2.0, it is the first phone to use Motoblur though I think?

Hmm yeah I guess. Btw iphone's multi-touch is sorta overrated. Forces me to use both hands. Why do you want to pinch to zoom?
