Well my current one is a SeaGate 2TB (that a close friend warned me about two years ago not to get but I got it already by that point) and it's slowly reaching its end. It's given me similar errors with unmountable boot volumes twice over the last four months, the one last week being a lot more serious (and where I had to format the hdd again). I don't know how long this before this one finally dies so I'm thinking about a new one already, preferrably WD or HGST (you know maybe things with lower failure rates)
Anything else I should know/suggestions? -------------------- |

As you haven't provided a budget I will straight up suggest that you get a 500gb SSD. You should be able to find some of them for under $200USD (I would recommend Samsung, but most of the major brands are fairly reliable). I'd recommend that and a WD Caviar Black as Kris suggested.
If you can't afford the 500gb SSD at least get a 120gb (which should be around ~$50USD) or 250gb for your OS and your most played games, it is easily one of the best performance upgrades you can get for your computer, and probably has the best cost-to-performance ratio from any computer part apart from RAM. Bought a 2 TB WD Slim Passport and it works fine since last year. Before this, have bought other three, 250 GB, 320 GB & 500 GB Passports and all of them work fine to this date. Don't trust any other brand for reliability and longevity. WD is the way to go! -------------------- Declare variables, not war. Execute programs, not people.
