Hello,
is it possible to easily port cnc generals to a newer SAGE game, like Tiberium Wars or Red Alert3? The idea is to take all the generals stuff and convert it to new file formats and use them to make a mod that resembles cnc generals. That would make a cnc generals with much better graphics and a more stable engine. Is there someting like that already in work or why is nobody doing it? |

IIRC TW and RA3's code is somewhat different of that of SAGE. Plus you cannot effectively upgrade things with the sidebar, for example how many upgrades can you see on a typical Strategy Center? TW only has four slots, and RA3 has only a pathetic one. Unless this and that is done, blah blah blah blah specifics that I don't know.
And for the thread's location, you know the drill, etc. etc. -------------------- |

It's probably possible, but really really hard to do...

It's probably possible, but really really hard to do... That's how I imagined it. Would be nice to know if there will be some decent generals 2 anytime soon. But wouldn't a generals based on a new engine be much more interesting than shockwave? Nothing against shockwave, it's great, but the engine is bad. Some game like shockwave and brand new game engine would certainly rock totally and the shockwave team certainly has the skills to make something like that. So.. to convert the w3d generals model into a w3x model Id need 3D studio max, right? There is no easy way hmm? This post has been edited by reznor: 14 Sep 2009, 19:50 |

Well if your gonna make a "good" Generals mod for say CnC 3, it will take more than just converting the models. The models in CnC 3 are rigged differently. You'll need to apply maps for the shaders of the texture. There's also the enormous difference in the level of detail that you'll probably completely re-make the model anyway.

I do remember seeing some high poly Generals-based models somewhere. (Think it was back on FS)
But I am unsure if it was for a mod -------------------- |

Perhaps once the Tiberium saga reached an end (Tiberium Twilight or C&C4 as EA called it), new C&C Generals might have taken over.
Alas there would be no more Kane in there. -------------------- CASOJIN

Well there is one mod already in work called Generals Evolution for CNC3. Link. This mod had been made quit a while already.. They even made jokes about it... Like that V.O.M.I.T. Launcher. Edit: Oops! Didn't see the last post was on 16 Sep 2009! I'm sorry if I post on a dead thread and breaking the 2th rule of the forum. I promise I will check the date on the last post before doing so. The only mod that sort of touches the general's units and background is Mid East crisis 2 mod for CnC3 although it focuses on occupation warfare like CWC mod. But the artwork and models in that thing are awesome.

There is a CnC3 mod called "Generals Evolution" or so, that puts Generals into CnC3, but with a few changes.
