I rather enjoyed the concept of the mission, even if it wasn't the best example of a mission map. Being a mapper myself I felt that the lack of detail, or advanced scripting made the experience not as enjoyable as it could have been.
In concept the idea of 'holding the line' given limited resources is a tried and tested way to gain somebodies involvement in a mission and to spark some adrenaline at having to conserve what little forces they have. This mission could have done with a lot longer for the defense time, and probably a better form of place to defend. With two fire bases your options are somewhat limited, and the attacks were hardly likely to have overrun the player. To be an awesome mission the player needs to find himself just about being overrun as the builder troops and re-enforcements roll in. This then makes them feel as if they have accomplished something a lot harder than it actually may have been because they have seen most of the stuff they started with destroyed. Moving on from this the player is left with a period where nothing much happens. With the map being so open and accessible, the player can very quickly scout it out with little danger too his/her scouts and he/she feels like there wasn't much challenge in doing so. Key choke points that need a little bit of thought to deal with reward the player with the ability to then explore more of the map. This could have been implemented to the north better with a small Russian infantry base which made a few troops and had a couple of defenses. In such a way the player would need to take that out before going on to capture the oil derricks and supply area, as well as exploring the UN base. Doing this would have also focused the player away from the Russian main base to the south, which had a similar affair set up, and automatically becomes the 'closest enemy' to attack. When a player builds a base, the first thing they want to do is to eliminate nearby threats. Therefore by placing the enemy main base far away from the player, not only do they have to explore and deal with the rest of the map first, it also allows the enemy to put 'troops in the field' in one or two waves that the player has to deal with on the way to the main base. In this mission, after taking out a couple of Tunguska's my small humvee and infantry force made from the starting given units was able to pick apart the little base to the south before the counter attack. This was well implemented. Many fan made mission maps do not involved guard scripts for an AI base. Units in a game like generals provide a 'mobile threat' that you cannot just counter by moving out of range. They also provide a way to bolster the effectiveness of defensive structures, because you don't need to have so many defensive structures to still get the same 'attrition effect'. This I personally liked and didn't expect. However! These same guards also followed my small scout force directly to my base and was wiped out by my base defenses. Thus 'guards' need to know when to retreat. This is actually somewhat difficult sometime to program into the AI scripts because when and where should these units retreat. If they go back to the base center, then often another quick strike can take out the base defense structures before they can respond. But if you leave them in the field, they become targets themselves. This is where the sencodary bunker objective could have been capitalised on by using that as a rally point for one group of guards, while the main base had another. When the main base was attacked, the guards from the bunker base could have moved down to encircle the attacking troops, while the main base built new guards to sent to the bunker base. Many players would, having seen these troops cut of there own, try and retreat there first attack force to prevent them being completely destroyed. It would also make them fear for the safety of their own base, if after an attack when their base is empty of its own guards comes under attack. Because players never like risking their main base, this is a great way to make a player be cautious and it also makes the mission longer and more enjoyable. Finally I'd like to comment that the Russian base itself didn't look much like a base, I mean there were few 'roads' and the uneven terrain made it look as if the base had been put there as an after thought. I'd like to thankyou for the map as it was an enjoyable 20mins however I'd hope that you'll take these points to heart for your next mapping endeavor. Hell I might even make my own ROTR mission to highlight some of these points. Gen |

Here is the briefing for the mission. After defeating the Russians and preventing a chemical war, some of our operatives located a chinese mining facility. We lost contact a short time later and sent in the airforce to destroy the facility. We soon learned the chinese were ready with their AA flak cannons. Your team is being inserted by boat and your objective is to destroy the flak cannons to clear the way for air support. Be advised we have been picking chatter on the radios that is not chinese, may be linked to another faction.
P.S. Don't ask when it will be done. -------------------- Signatures are overrated :)

Just finished up the intro to the mission, took about 2 hours of fighting with world builder to get the whole scene done right. I know this pic doesnt show much but it is still a nice pic. One quick question how do i add the bar under some of your guys post, stating which army i am with. Those bars are signs of taking part in the ROTR Roleplay that is run periodically - unfortunately the current one has kinda fizzled out.

Just as all 4 before. I cannot help with that much, since I cannot force everyone to post just for the sake of it. If no one is interested, yeah...

Here it is my second mission just in time for Thanksgiving,America versus China with Intro Scene.
