SWR Productions Forum _ Frontline News _ ROTR 1.87 Update 2

Posted by: The_Hunter 17 Apr 2016, 15:07

Welcome back to an other update of Rise of the Reds.
In this update we are presenting you the two new drones for our revision of the USA Vanguard infantry.

With the success of the Cypher support drone, a even more lightweight drone was commissioned for infantry fire support. The AQ-51 Dragonfly is an ultra-light weight combat UAV capable of being deployed in the field at the squad level. Using a tri-rotor design, the inexpensive Dragonfly is armed with two Pike 40mm laser-guided rockets. Due to the low cost and light weight of the munitions, the AQ-51 can be easily restocked in the field by allied troops.

The latest in area denial weaponry, the M20 "Rolling Ricky" is an infantry deployable smart mine used by the United States Armed Forces, designed to supplement the M15 and M19 anti-tank mines and M2 SLAM. Despite its disposable nature, the mine drone is capable of quickly distinguishing between enemy and allied vehicles and can roll towards a target to disable or destroy it via detonation of the 10 kg of IMX-101 based shaped charge high explosive within the mine's shell. Should the enemy evade its sight, the mine drone will replant itself and wait for another hostile to enter its detection range, as long as its battery still holds charge.

The attack drone is purely a visual update while the Mine Drone is new and will be replacing the scout/recon drone the vanguard previously had.

That little ball of death looks nice.
Also, there is one thing with attack drone that bothers me for a long time already, so please answer my little question: why was the first design of the attack drone rejected (the one which was presented when vanguard firstly showed up)? I am not saying that a new one is bad, but in my opinion, the first one (Drone Prime laugh.gif ) was the most fitting, so I am confused.

Nice, guys! biggrin.gif
So basically, those drone-mines aren't mines (technically speaking), but self-destructing drones, so mine-immune vehicles won't actually be immune to them?

Posted by: Mizo 17 Apr 2016, 18:28

Pretty much.

Posted by: 3rdShockArmy 17 Apr 2016, 18:48

Got it. Those things will be a real pain in the ass when deployed in numbers. A great addition to the US generalist meta.

BB-8 got ripped!

My question is...what is a cyclone drone? o.O

I dunno but 'gimmicky unit specialist' sounds like a more dominant theme for the USA. A "mobile demo trap" drone might turn the 'gimmicky' part up to eleven if it has a manual detonation ability (just think about all the micro... it is gonna be insane!).

Good addition for Vanguards. I always think the same way that they should not have any stealth detection because USA already have 2 units for this. Well now rushing players will be more attentive when play against USA coz now it have something from ECA style (mine deploy) smile.gif

I meant in a way they get a bit of every faction. Now, the US' already great turtling (second only to ECA) got just even better, as XAOC said, ECA-style. But yeah, the gimmicky designation is also legit, considering all those drones. And yes, more micro pain for the Yanks. Oops! tongue.gif

Yeah, I hated the "hell-fire drone" esque look and always liked the Roach version when it was first unveiled. The mechanic for the Vanguard is more suited for a hovering drone than a winged drone.

Now the Vanguard is going to be feared even more for anti-tank firepower.
Now anti-infantry vehicles are in for a nasty surprise. Loving it!

What is that stick for, anyway?

I think it's similar to a rudder in function.

To balance the weight of the missile launcher. otherwise the right side of the drone would be heavier than the left side.
