Finland
24th December 2045 0600 hours The Federation’s advance through Finland was swift and Battlegroup Sisu, assigned to defend Europe’s North Eastern flank, was reduced to pieces within days of the invasion. Several months had passed since the beginning of the aggressions. Despite heavy losses ECA forces fought back with all means possible. Mole bombs were planted in road culverts and air burst mines were scattered along all possible attack routes. When the minelayers were disabled by hostile fire or broke down due to mechanical failures ECA’s resourceful combat pioneers salvaged what was left in the Moles’ munitions storages for later use. The efforts partly slowed down the Russians and forced them to deploy Mishkas and conscripts armed with mine detectors to the frontlines to a much greater extent than anticipated by the Russian commanders. As the ECA units became more disintegrated the soldiers who had survived changed their modus operandi by relying on hit and run infantry tactics called motti, which had proven successful a century ago during the Winter War. Small units of ski troopers consisting of ECA soldiers and local resistance fighters towing ski sledges packed with Panzerfausts, anti-tank mines and IEDs, stealthily approached the Russian tank columns from the flank, divided them in to smaller segments of isolated units that were rapidly taken care of, continued by salvaging what they could and withdrew without leaving a trail. He still felt nauseated when he replayed his memories from Pudasjaervi six months earlier. He could feel the Lynx lurch as the driver tried to avoid the Frogfoot attack. Cpt. Virtanen braced up and hissed through his clenched teeth: “We are going to give those brown bears a merry Christmas gift this year, mark my words” His men where gathered around him in a tight circle, crouching on their knees, eagerly tensely their orders. Virtanen and his men had to carefully pick their targets as their firepower was severely limited. Scouts had reported that a convoy with Grumble mobile SAMs was approaching their area of operation. Indeed an attractive target. “My plan is to strike here and… here”. He pointed on the map on the ground. “Do we have any support for this mission” one of his subordinates inquired. “Fortunately, we do, Lars.” He paused for a few seconds to observe eyes lit up around him. “It turned out that one of the other groups had a pair of combat pioneers that had gotten their hands on a Russian 120mm mortar during their last raid. It will surely be useful. That is all. Be ready in 30 minutes. Remember to clear your bowel”. The twelve soldiers carefully approached the road. Three quarters of an hour later a cloud of snow appeared in the far end of the road. “Mishka! Prepare to rig the road after it has passed. You will only have 5 minutes before the convoy appears.” Virtanen told the fireteam in charge of mining the road. The three soldiers hurled them self out of their cover and rushed towards the road. They planted the few anti-tank mines they brought with them and quickly withdrew to their ambush position. The designated marksman called out: “Here they come! Cover! Cover! Cover!” As the first Kodiak had past their position Lars pulled the igniter and the Arms Dealer truck tailing the tank suddenly levitated several meters above ground. Virtanen rose up and opened fire with his assault rifle shouting: “Fire!” The anti-armour fireteam launched their Panzerfausts grenades and behind him he could hear the radio operator: “Mannerheim to Molotov. A Ten-shot at grid five-five-zero. Fire for effect!” The 120mm mortar rounds hit the ground in front of them a minute later. The firefight continued for a while longer. All of a sudden a thunderous noise from the East caught everyone’s attention. Moments later 155mm MSTA shells began hammering the ground turning the soil upside down and levelling the trees by the stumps. Total chaos occurred as both Russians and Europeans headed for what little cover there was. The convoy commander had ordered a danger close fire mission to protect his valuable cargo. Virtanen was just about to withdraw as he was hit by shrapnel in the back. The second-in-command watched as his superior was caught in the leap and his body tumbled over as he lost consciousness. A few seconds later the new commanding officer shouted: “Perkele! Medic, get over here!” followed by “Retreat! Retreat!” The deep snow prevented the Federation’s tanks from pursuing the Europeans and they managed once again to escape. This time, however, the losses were unusually high. During the night the remaining able bodied men and women hurled the wounded back to the hideout. The KIAs had to be left on the battlefield to not risk the life of the others. Virtanen regained consciousness as he was carried on a stretcher. He turned to the new commanding officer and in a whispering voice asked if they had succeeded with the mission. The man glanced at Aina, the medic and the two other soldiers carrying the stretcher to gain some morale support but it was all in vain. He looked back on Virtanen, took a deep breath and responded with a lie: “Yes, Virtanen. We did it.” This post has been edited by Spejjarn: 20 Jun 2016, 10:35 -------------------- |

Wouldn't it be more reasonable to do that -after- the Venom has actually been officially established by -us- first?^^

Quite possibly, after all, we teased it in our previous update. I won't give any guarantees, but you will see it soon enough.

Sure, but I don't think anyone would want to write an elaborate guessing fic about Venoms being biomechanical abominations that had their human limbs hacked off and replaced by cybernetics only to realise that they, well, aren't.
