Hatsune Miku, the flagship of the artificial voice programm "Vocaloid", has shown her debut in German TV in the form of a news report on privatised TV program RTL (Radio Television Luxembourg) on 2011-06-18. The reaction of presenting her has been overly positive, because unlike a good many things in German television she was not derailed but described objectively, even positively.
The news video is available here: Basic Translation: They explain that Miku is a virtual idol and very famous in Japan. She sells millions of CDs and makes more fans scream in delight than Justin Bieber. But first and foremost she is, yes, not human but made of bits and bytes. Created in 2007, since then her prominence has increased dramatically, as an example even car sales go up when showing her advertising them. Some more description how she looks like and video clips and asked people from the street for good measure. Who is Hatsune Miku: Hatsune Miku or simply Miku as her fans lovingly name here, is an artificial voice and the most known of the sort of the program "Vocaloid". Vocaloid allows realistic voice synthezising and applying music, making it possible to create music by PC alone. It features several voice databanks, among them Miku. Miku herself is 158cm high, wears a silver-and-cyan dress, has equally cyan eyes and pig tails reaching almost the ground and, as often described, "cute and strong" voice. Her first concert was in 2010, based on the holoprojection technology that was first used for a concert of the equally virtual (thought not the voices unlike Miku) band Gorillaz. The concert was a smashing success and thus Miku started a world tour. Personal note: What can I say but "Holy shit this is awesome." ? This post has been edited by SorataZ: 21 Jun 2011, 10:58 |

Now that you say that, I just realised that I've never actually heard a single Justin Bieber song ever...which is most likely a good thing. Too bad I can't say the same thing about Miley Cyrus and much of that other awful dross that defines today's pop music.
Having watched the full video now, I can attest that quirky synthetic J-Pop or whatever genre this falls into is not my cup of tea, but it sure beats all of those alleged 'superstars' that RTL keeps churning out by the truckload. God, television in this country sucks! |

I could never understand how people could like this, it doesn't sound anything like the human voice (to clear something up, I quite like vocoded vocals when used in as an instrument, but as the main and only part of a song, no thanks) nor does it have any tonal quality at all. Nor would I see the point in seeing it live, as it would be pretty much exactly the same every time.
Each to their own, I guess. -------------------- |

Well its like a movie or anime character except you can do anything with it. As technology get better they'll get more and more 'human'. I think Hatsune is a lot better singer and artist than a lot of the crap music and artists out today too.
She was in a TV show here in Brazil 4 months ago too. -------------------- |
