i just update my PC and redownloaded RotR (YAY) and i cant seem to get it working. i install Gen. played it check it then move on to ZH same thing. then i updated ZH and re played and check again. then i Install RotR "plan" no 1.2 or music pack and went to check it and got a error:
" Execution of command 'd:\EA Games\Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour\generals.exe' failed (error 740: the Requested operation requires elevation.) "

i have done 3 "clean" install now. still getting the same thing. any ideas friends? (side note: im now running window 7 not sure if that matters but more info = easy fix tongue.gif)

Download it and try it again, my brother had the same problem in Windows Vista, I think it is common in these new OS, if the problem persists it may need some sort of OS update or run this program as admin.

It should not be because of Vista or Windows7, as I have Vista and everything works fine for me. As Edsato82 said, it could be indeed a corrupt download.

It also could be that you haven't allowed the program to run as administrator?

It's a problem that has to do with privileges.

If you still have it installed can you right click on the generals.exe shortcut in the Install folder, click on the Properties tab and see if the box "Run this program as an Administrator" is ticked. If not, try ticking it or unticking it.

That, but instead of granting admin privileges to Generals.exe, grant them to the .bat files used to launch RotR, it seems to be a protection from intrusive bat scripts I8.gif

i will find it weird if u have to run as admin on windows 7 at all me and my friend have nvr had that problem the last time we had that problem was with vista which made u do that with evry game. anyways if your running it thru first decade then u may be installing it to the wrong directory as the default is set to the old generals path

True that, a limited windows user never seems to be able to do much with .bat command scripts.

If you are launching ROTR from the start menu. This simply means you have to go to the install folder and locate all the files with ROTR in their name and a .bat extension, and do what I told you to do with the generals.exe.

Lurk, cleaned and mounted.

I dunno if W7 has any compatibility mode, but if it has you could try that...

...or uninstall everything, ZH and such, delete it from the registry (CCleaner or regedit, your choice) and reinstall.

If all fails, just rename all files of ROTR into .big files and start Z:H normally instead of using the launcher. Can be a bit annoying though as you would have to rename them always.

AIRotR.big
0000BetaROTR.big
00000BetaROTRPatch.big
0000RotrContent.big
must they be called after renaming to play ROTR.
Also in the Data folder is a folder called Scripts, rename it into -Scripts or something similar.

Hi, I was having this error and I tweaked with ROTR and found a solution to this problem:

1. Go to your Zero Hour directory after installing ROTR.

2. Rename the batch file Rotr_Beta, to "Rotr_Beta.exe" - or do this with the other batch files (such as "Rotr_Beta_Quick.exe" if you want to play ROTR in quickstart mode).

3. Right click the file, and choose "run as an administrator".

4. Problem solved. Enjoy. wink.gif

Actually I'm not sure that renaming the file with ".exe" has anything to do with it. Sorry about that. I also was able to run it w/o right clicking to run as an admin first.

Basically, I got the "error 740" (just like the OP) when trying to launch ROTR from the start menu - and I was unable to change permissions to run it as an admin from the start menu.

So the solution is just to go into the ZH directory, and make a desktop shortcut to the ROTR batch file that you want to launch (ex, the default file, the windowed mode file, the quickstart file, etc). Then just click the shortcut from the Desktop, and you should be able to run it no sweat.
