I just recently discovered it by accident but damn the artwork and the world building are amazing. Five major factions (UK, USA, USSR, Germany, Japan) from WW2 become the four superpower of the Galaxy (Allied, Germany, Soviet, Japan)

Yes, it's a shame that it died. It was on my watchlist ages ago. Then 2012 came and reality woke me up, a dream will always be dream.

The settings have alots of interesting possibilities. These days we don't have such things like that anymore. People just scream "nazi, commie, whitewashing...propaganda" at everything that have a playable fictional faction heavily inspired by real life nations. Instead we got ugly alien sci-fi which have human body and animal heads or in some boring crysis style armor, who preach peace and craps.

The ugly truth thou. Although I love some alternative history it still stuck into either meaningless politic debate or it will be a realistic RTS which lack the cool gimmick tech and craziness like RA2.

Endwar used to get my attention but turn out it just flatten the whole design for the sake of pvp balance so the whole different is just about the art not the playstyle.

But it would be interesting if someone make a RTS that exclude the common major factions like USA, China, Russia, EU and replace them with Africa, Latin America, Austrialia, South East Asian, India no matter how much impractical and silly it is. laugh.gif

The only game with the most available factions including non-major ones that I know is Wargame Red Dragon. But I don't like it, the scale is too big.

Endwar is not a bad game. But it is a console port, even if it's a decent one. I hate the camera really much. Doesn't make sense as it forbid you from having the usual top down view.

The kind that I'd like to see is in my post on the "post your dream RTS games" thread. I really miss the old days where this forum is full of active posters. Lots of fun talking back then.

I prefer to clump many nations into one piece such as ECA or GLA. It would be easier to handle the common doctrines between them. Creating many smaller nations can lead to overlapping or lacking of the clear different between each side but it's just a different taste between each person.

Red Dragon is actually one of few the games that tell the story of Cold War conflict in the Pacific area instead of European soil again (the other one are Mental Omega). At least it is a refreshing breath for my taste. Seeing too much conflict on Europe and Middle East bored me (I like Europe but I need a change of warzone geography dammit).

This maybe overdone in hollywood and all but I think the imagined "X faction attack the free world/America" settings still have alots of room s for creativity. Red Alert 2 was probably the best game in this trend, but consider its age alots more could have been done. MO did an excellent job on remaking it with wonderful missions.

The other game is World in Conflict. People say it's propaganda and shit have probably never play the Soviet campaign. It was no stereotype. A shame that like many other legends, we can never get a sequel.

On the pacific area, WWII games might have been too many to count but almost none of them include the Sino-Japan war. It was just as bloody as everwhere else, but with less guns and vehicles. Probably the most uneven conflict in WWII as 1 side have ridiculous manpower but weak or almost no weapons while the others are facing more than a 10/1 ratio but at least still have more guns.

The pacific games we often got are all about US marines fighting Japs on some islands. It got really boring after a while.

Considering the formula of modern warfare RTS would require either USA or Europe to present in that spot I'm not surprised to see them anywhere. Meanwhile making thing involved to China will get the same effect like how EA got a big trouble with the Chinese government of portraying them unrealistically. In either thing are too restrictive and reduce a lot of creative window.

Seeing Pacific Asia would be a potential setting for RTS like Korean War but also it can be a place for high focused naval warfare (but naval play a very low role in RTS unless you make very high focus on it).

Well EA didn't care about China when they made Generals and BF4. The games are banned there by the government. Sure they lost some imagined profits but still sold alots everwhere else. Not sure about now though, cause that was like 5 years ago.

A navy focused RTS can work. RA3 have many flaws but it didn't fail in making naval warfare an important strategy to focus on. By expanding to the sea you are absolutely safe from ground forces and there are mines in the water for more $. As the game progressed the one who can't get into the sea would have to go air to compensate and have less money so he would be very predictable. Or if you are Jap it gets stranger with all the amphibious units support by an unmatched navy. Unless the map is retard you can actually die on the ground battle and comeback later from the sea as long as there are time and money left.
