I notice that some of the USA unit voices (these two in specific) are much less audible compared to the volume level of other units, and the voices themselves sound lower in quality, possibly recorded by a mod staff member instead of a professional recording. Would it be possible to replace these with something more up to the standards of the mod's other voices? These two really stand out as lackluster (if they were recorded by mod staff, then that's not on them of course, but a unit voice made by a professional game studio would be a huge improvement).

Actually since last week me and Comr4de have been trying to start up a little side project.

Theres a lot of amateur but also semi-professional voice actors on the internet. Like the ones used in Flash animations such as Newgrounds.

So stay tuned for more details.

well, just with the topic...

What about russian voices? I mean, some of them are from RA, but is there a way to replace them with REAL russian voices? (to add a little bit of realism).

My issue isn't the realism. It's just that the voices for those two units sound noticibly lower in volume than every other unit in the factions' arsenals, and the tone of voice sounds very unenthusiastic - so they stand out noticeably as having just been recorded at home by someone. I would compare it to a mod having like having 1 or 2 units with models that look like this, in a Mod which otherwise has SWR-quality unit models.

"USA supply truck + USA Pow truck + radar + China nuke cannon = wonderful designed unit"

As far as "real" Russian voices go, I mean unless you want to take a trip to Russia and have some people record voices, or hire a professional recording studio to do it then that's probably out of the question.

On a side note though, the Blackhawk voice sounds much better even though I believe this one was also recorded by someone at home (not an actual unit voice from C&C Generals or another computer game).

The Russians in this game will not speak Russian for the exact same reason we don't have Chinese units speak Chinese or GLA units speak Arabic/Farsi/etc:
This kind of feature was NEVER meant to be in a C&C game and it would utterly alienate any player who isn't familiar with said language for the benefit of a relatively small group of players that do.

There have been many recordings we've done already for the units that lack proper voice overs, the Cobra and Blackhawk were among some of our first. Admittedly they needed a bit of changes from our equipment there, possibly bringing up the voice and having them do more attempts at it - we did have a sound studio ready for this but were inexperienced when it came to recording it properly - the new ones however should appease that as they are quite better and as Overdose has mentioned we are outstretching from the volunteers that I've had (I've been in charge of the custom Voice overs for the mod, so if you talk about it, I'm watching and will yell at people I8.gif)

Regardless I'm sure the future voices will be suitable for the new units (namely ECA/Russian) as we've had a blast making them, some of which have been played out by those that had some voice acting experience. Take it for what you will =)

Also in regards of actual spoken language voice overs, just as MARS has mentioned, will never be done again. The old ROTR had them and they were awful, simple as that.

Just making sure - so all ECA units will speak English as well? I sure hope so.

A variety of accents? Like British, French, German, etc? That would be cool.

How would you choose which units use what accents?
Is it possible to change unit accent by ECA Generals?

Depends on the units background, whether it was developed in France or Germany it will have its respective accent.

Just to clarify though, there will most likely be accents other than just French and German.

Not what I was thinking of. It would just vary from unit to unit I'm assuming (just like the "cheesiness" factor of unit voices varies from unit to unit in this game, lol). Units unique to say, the British general, would probably end up having British accents for example.

They wouldn't have to make a single accent specific to each general, since the ECA is a combined European Union military force, not individual armies from each country.
