Hey Guys,

I've noticed that in the last few months a LOT of planes have crashed or gone missing. Now it's starting to get to more than a coincidence. Perhaps Pedo-Bear is taking over the world. But then again climate change or terrorism might be causing it. Either way many people have died lately from plane crashes.

What are your thoughts on this?

Media.
People are afraid of flying because of acts such as 9/11.
The media picks up on this.
The media chooses to feed you more info than they normally would about aircraft tragedy, as that will get them more viewers/readers.

I don't think there has been in increase in this, I think you have just heard more about it.

The media did the same with the swine flu scare. Statiscally flying is safer than most forms of transport such as the automobile but the only problem is that IF -and its a big- IF something goes wrong, well then you're screwed for the most part.

Yes, but 3 light aircraft from the ATC (Air Cadets) have crashed in the last few months.

I've been in the ATC for 5yrs and know people who've been in for up to 20-30yrs. There has never been a crash in that aircraft, but suddenly 3 fall out of the sky with no survivors :S

I haven't seen much of a climb in aircraft crashing incidents. Just a climb in media coverage of said events.
I could, of course, be wrong. But I don't think so.

I would bet my house (if I owned one) that the incidence of aircraft crashes has remained virtually unchanged, or rather, has not increased any more than one would expect given the continuing rise in air traffic. No conspiracy theory worth listening to could connect air cadet training flight crashes to the crash of the recent Air France flight, that's for sure.

They're called running stories, and plane crashes just happen to be the latest in journalistic sensationalism after swine flu and the global market economy.

With the large number of planes flying around the world every day the odds are that at least one of them is going to crash.

Yeah but surely by design planes aren't meant to come down?

And by design boats are not meant to sink, but they do.

The death watch beetle of fatigue in the wings of a plane can make them snap off. Then there's thunderstorms and air turbulence to account for... or human error. There are so many things that can go wrong with any form of locomotion, but it doesn't stop us travelling in them despite what the sensationalist press have to say. smile.gif

They used to crash themselves into Battleships, carriers gun emplacements.
Anything, but they used to come down on purpose.

Northern Korea does not get provoked at all, and those stupid fools won't do anything. It's just words about a deliberate interpretation, to try and keep the US eyes away from them.

Well anyways, back on topic.

Don't you think more should be done to prevent plane crashes? It's not like we're new to aviation ore anything.

Well as we root put more devious factors like bogus spare parts, other problems tend to surface. I still think planes are fairly safe btw. Most plames currently fall due to human error or pure coincidence rather than bad engineering.
