It has come to my attention that when a BMP gets destroyed the infantry inside survives with full health. AFAIK in the original game the Chinese infantry could barely survive Troop Crawler's explosion while Rangers inside Vees would just die instantly. Is there something that makes the BMP more safer in terms of transporting units? I'm asking out of curiosity.

The hulls are made of Stalinwood and thus everyone survives better when the thing is split open.

I think in RotR, all land-based infantry transports will eject their passengers with full health when destroyed.

Unless you're on water.

Ironically, I remember BMPs used to be notorious for their passengers' unsafety. Brilliant things like a fuel pod built into the back hatch (there were reasons, but somewhat poor ones). Not sure if that's still common, it may have been changed in more recent BMP models.

Old BMP1 suffered from such issues. Later patients have no such issues........

All BMP suffer from being dangerous to troops due to the engine arrangement. I think they solve it with the new kurganets( I don't know If it is spelled this way) of course, by the time of his introduction, the BMP has no comparison in the west and usually had a lower profile than western IFV/APC

The BMP2 kept the classic Fire exits.

The BMP3 is where they finally figured out that there might be a problem with the deathtrap-doors.

That original setting I believe was to compensate for Vees' fireports and Crawlers' free passengers.

I didn't even realize troops in Humvees would survive in case of vehicle destruction (tells you how much I use them). I must be thinking of Shockwave.

You are. Along with vZH and even Generals.

Which reminds me, I'm so glad RotR changed that mechanic.

Thanks for the confirmation that I'm not imagining things again. I'm going to have to start loading up some Hummers and try different tactics next time.
