Not really fair to compare at present, as Shockwave is a finished product and ROTR is still midway through development. Shockwave has all factions and generals implemented, plus challenge mode and some other game modes in addition to skirmish, while ROTR only has 3/5 factions and no generals implemented at present, and no extra game modes if I remember correctly.
While on the subject though, is there any intention of providing any further minor updates to Shockwave at some point in the future, once ROTR is done? Would be great to see some fixes or additions to the challenge maps. |

You should have waited untill RotR 2.0 is released, at least then we can compare it fairly.

I agree with the pass above^ (Lobo Solitario)
Not only that i think you can not fair to jugde the games with the way you have set up the question. Both mods are aimed at diffrent goals in the current state. Shockwave is more (IMO) aim at "Lets kick some ass!" mind set and as a result (again IMO) has units that are made for just kicking .... some ass. RotR has a more (once again IMO) still has "lets get in the fight" but aimed to be a little more (and I do not mean totally) real...er. This, for at least me, gives a little added spice to the game play. Both have there roles for diffrent players on the net.... (wait! there are diffrent people on the net now! /(o.0)\ ) Both are fun to play and different people will have diffrent view points on both. If you want my own opinion this just check my sig... Considering I've been in love with Shockwave for more than six years now, I think it's fairly easy to see what I prefer. I tend to like my mods to not alter the core of the game too much - Shockwave has the perfect amount of modification to the core ZH gameplay. Enough to keep it interesting and fresh almost a decade after ZH was released.
Don't get me wrong - I do like Rise of the Reds as well, but it doesn't captivate me as much as Shockwave has. Rise of the Reds is bordering on the 'a little too much changes' territory for me. I still play Shockwave reasonably regularly to this day, which is a real testament to its quality. -------------------- |

I agree with you on the most part. But, I would stop you to say one thing about "to many changes": It all dependes on what part of ZH you like to play. I agree that it has alot of changes from "multi-player and General Cha" But I think RotR has more inturn to Single player game. That didnt have laser tank armys or any thing like that. So to conclude. I agree with you But only depending on what side of ZH your coming from. Massey -------------------- This is so on the ball----> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2m4SCUaBHS8

Like already said, ShW is a finished product (with some bugs though) while RotR is still in the beta. Even 1.7 of RotR probably won't reach ShW's quality.
And I know I shouldn't say this and saying this is pointless anyways but... I'll do so anyways, From what we know about RotR 2.0 so far and judging by current state of things... considering overall gameplay depth, all faction design and depth, flexibility, and most importantly fun - from a neutral fan's PoV - I can honestly say it's very unlikely that even RotR 2.0 will be as good as ShW given the bugs in ShW gets fixed. Ofc RotR will probably beat ShW in the looks and cosmetics department. It all dependes on what part of ZH you like to play. I agree that it has alot of changes from "multi-player and General Cha" But I think RotR has more inturn to Single player game. That didnt have laser tank armys or any thing like that. So to conclude. I agree with you But only depending on what side of ZH your coming from. Are you meaning "vanilla factions" by "single player game"? After all if I recall correctly laser tanks are available in single player and challenges. This post has been edited by SpiralSpectre: 22 May 2012, 7:38 |

I agree with you on the most part. But, I would stop you to say one thing about "to many changes": As I said - for RTS games I prefer it to be as close as possible in how it plays to the original game (unless it's a total conversion, of course, that's a different matter). Rise of the Reds changes the entire tech system for starters, some people like a fresh take on things, but to be honest the Zero Hour system was actually pretty good. EA just didn't take the time to polish it up. Shockwave is the polish, in my opinion, and it's really what keeps ZH alive for me.It all dependes on what part of ZH you like to play. I agree that it has alot of changes from "multi-player and General Cha" But I think RotR has more inturn to Single player game. That didnt have laser tank armys or any thing like that. So to conclude. I agree with you But only depending on what side of ZH your coming from. Massey As I said before - I still enjoy Rise of the Reds, it is definitely nice to have something fresh to play for a little while - but I always find myself coming back to Shockwave. I can't say that for many other things. Like already said, ShW is a finished product (with some bugs though) while RotR is still in the beta. Even 1.7 of RotR probably won't reach ShW's quality. To be honest - coming from someone who's followed Shockwave close to the beginning, I've loved Shockwave ever since I first played it in 0.9 way back in late 2005/early 2006. It was far less developed at that time than Rise of the Reds was even at 1.5. Rise of the Reds just doesn't grab me the way Shockwave does - of course it's different for other people - but someone in my position who's been involved in something for so long does have natural biases.

Both mods are great, since ROTR is not finished yet, I do not vote now..
I do like the idea of creating completely new factions like Russia and the ECA! Still imo I'd liked it the most if Russia and ECA would have been implanted in Shockwave as am addition, after so much work on the awesome Shockwave mod.. so u had kinda all in one This post has been edited by Commander-GDI: 22 May 2012, 19:51 |
