Hello there ROTR Fans!
This week we don't have any updates for the normal factions but instead we've made two new vehicles for the Militia NPC faction for use on custom maps. One of such custom maps you may recall from a while ago are the Arena Game mode maps which XAttus has been tirelessly working on the past couple of weeks to make sure it will be ready once ROTR version 1.87 is release worthy. So without further ado, enjoy the renders and be sure to check out XAttus's stream announcement below: The versatile and venerable M113 APC, though heavily outdated, still finds use in reserve forces, police teams, poorer national armies, and PMCs that cannot afford more expensive modern transports. Armed with an M2 Browning .50 Caliber machine gun for defense, this APC is able to comfortably carry 6 infantry to their destination with the protection of the APC's armour. However, it should be noted that despite the M113A3's upgraded aluminium-alloy armour and internal spall liners, this armour is inadequate for defense against modern tank weaponry and anti-armour weapons, therefore it should avoid direct engagements. Despite its age, the M163 Vulcan is still used by many poorer nations and certain PMCs as a mobile close range air defense due to its low cost and high rate of fire of its 20mm Vulcan cannon. It also is useful as an urban combat fire support vehicle. A popular modification is the Israeli-designed "Machbet" upgrade that adds a 4-missile Stinger pod to the turret along with an upgraded tracking radar and ability to connect with search radars for enhanced target acquisition. XAttus will be hosting a stream of the internal version tomorrow (saturday) to showcase the Militia Vulcan that has been added to all arena maps. The APC version will also be included in the game mode but instead of appearing in waves, it will get a special purpose on a future map. You can click the image or here to head to his channel, and here is the countdown to let you know when exactly it starts. -------------------- |

I'm sure the dev.team came up with a worthy replacement (no, I don't know what it is) so Bradley will have cool stuff regardless. Vulcan looks aged though, so if Chapparal got replaced by a more modern Patriot, why keep such a museum piece for a hightech faction? Noone prevents you from giving it a proper American skin and putting it into addon once 1.87 is out however.

ROTR is set in 2040s, going by that most of the stuffs here would have been gone long ago. They have Cyclops, so why bother with Patriot? Just make a mobile version. Nighthawk? New Aurora model should be able to do anything it can. And the Chinooks are recycled. It's not a usable argument. If anything, I guess they just want to bring old ZH stuffs back for nostalgia. I haven't learn texturing, and I don't think I will bother with that model cause it have that generic worker gunner, which won't look good even with a reskin. Need Hex editing to, cause texture overlaping. This post has been edited by X1Destroy: 23 Sep 2016, 16:58 -------------------- We Die Standing.

Just make a mobile version. Nighthawk? New Aurora model should be able to do anything it can. And the Chinooks are recycled. Except the Vulcan and Chaparral are literally cold war vintage that were retired for superior things even today. The RL patriot is planned to be used until at least the 50s. This goes double in ROTRs universe since NATO's replacement went down with NATO. We upgraded it to be mobile, and when you see the model you will agree that it looks much more modern. The Vulcan's planned replacement for Bradley is the same way. Chinooks similarly are planned to be around for a while. There is also something else: the timeline does not dictate what is in-game. The game is essentially anachronistic, you can find things from the 2030s up to the late 2050s from ROTR's universe. The ROTR universe itself is an alternate universe, and doesn't exactly follow what happens in real-life (despite a few near-prophetic events). |

Well, I was just surprised how things changed so much after all these years. And yes, this can end now.

Seems like ROTR finally became "League of Generals" or smth like "dROTRa"
And about people worrying about Vulcan becoming obsolete for 2.0: to be honest, i absolutely don't care, because for me it is hard to imagine such old tech being used by high-tech faction in ROTR timeline. Still want a ground vehicle with 6-barreled beauty on board though (it is never enoug miniguns for me ). This post has been edited by NikCaputnic: 23 Sep 2016, 18:45 |

Seems like ROTR finally became "League of Generals" or smth like "dROTRa" No it did not, not at all. While the game mode indeed resembles moba style, it doesn't apply it the same way. You still have your capability to build armies and even do cheese tactics to screw over your opponents without even "going into lane" or "farming creeps for cash". You can play by the rules or you can go completely against them, it's your choice. but of course if it isn't your cup of tea, it's completely fine. -------------------- XAttus

Well, a fictional design is fine as long as it's not "Lulz, hovering hi-tek laser guided shooting drone" thing.

Well, a fictional design is fine as long as it's not "Lulz, hovering hi-tek laser guided shooting drone" thing. Back to the drawing board for our Transformers-inspired mecha AA unit... Seriously, we stated in the past that our designs will not be ultra-futuristic, and will remain in the realm of possibility for this century. I remember similar statements in 2013 when MARS revealed the USA drone expansion, and they were proven unfounded when they were actually revealed. As requested by The_Hunter previously, let's please get back on-topic. This post has been edited by GeneralCamo: 23 Sep 2016, 19:19 |

You won't like a lot of comming designs then. Maybe, cause I'm quite fond of old, proven conventional ones. The hover crusader is one thing that I never use in my usual PVE games, for that reason. I play enough RA3 already. BTW, back to the topic. The AA will not be in the Arena map? Militia tech buildings? The Vulcan is currently in the Arena maps. It has proven to be a highly effective infantry-killer, as well as providing a bit of risk to helicopters.
Also: The Militia Tanks have Co-Axial machine guns now, making giving starting infantry support more important along with the Vulcan absolutely shredding infantry. To balance this, the starting cash was increased to 4.5k in the latest Arena version, subject to change as usual. |

I know that it is not a moba because i played it too (the old one). I just was trying to point a funny resemblance because of playstyle and some kind of creeps. Sad that it was taken too serious. |

According to the brief description 2.0 on Moddb, it will have a unique generals challenge "campaign" included. I don't know where this idea stands today, but making those kind of maps is not going to be a 5 minute job

Hmm, I'm not a huge fan of the Arena gamemode, but the models look nice!
On a different subject though, I just realized that there are two fighter jets in the game both named "Interceptor"(China's Interceptor MiG and the GLA's Interceptor SU 17), and I was just wondering if there are any plans to change the names of one of the jets in 1.87? |
