There is a difference right? What about Sundra or Madura? I really have no idea.
Sorry; I was just trying my best without any knowledge of global linguistics.

Javanese, Sundanese, Madura, etc are ethnic languages, Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia) is the national language. It's safe to assume all people speaking those language also speak Bahasa. I'm a javanese ethnic and still use both, that's why I had to pick the more general one. mindfuck.gif

Although my native language is German, mine is terrible, on about the level of a 13 year old, as I didn't really continue learning it when I moved to Spain around that age. I still live in Spain, but I'll be moving back to Germany soon, because this country is in really deep doodoo.

Both my English and Spanish are better than my German.

Congrats. The poll has hit off! Although I'm still about to vote and can't figure out where and how do I cast it! Your poll mentions Hindi with any other Indian language and then you mention Bengali? You know Bengali is an Indian languagel, right?

I'm an Indian, I speak Gujarati (mother tongue), Hindi, Marathi, Marwadi, Kutchi, Punjabi, English, French and a little bit of Flemmish, though I understand all of it! You see the problem there about casting my vote wink.gif

Firstly, thanks for your reply.
Correct me otherwise but Bengali is the official language for Bangladesh and Hindu is India's official language (National Union). As far as I know, potential Bengali voters could be upset with their Language being groped with India. This is why I kept it and Hindi/Any Indian language separate. My intentions were if Assamese, Gujurati, Kannada, Kokborok, Konkani, Malayalam, Meitei, Marathi, Mizo, Odai, Telugu or any other Indian exclusive language was your Native Language you would tick the Hindi/Any Indian language. If not you would tick it from the selection or tick other.

Take into consideration the title of this thread is "Native Language Poll". I'm only asking for one Language that you speak and would call your Native Language. 'Native Language' could mean you grew up with the language or it's your most conformable language. I'm sure there are plenty of other factors that make a language native to you. The fact that you call Gujarati your mother tongue seem to suggest to me that is your Native Language. tongue.gif

I apologizes for the lengthy reply and my lack of knowledge. This poll was somewhat rushed. There are many different things I could've done to make it better. wink.gif You got me Bruce!
I also apologize if you don't understand what I'm saying. Anyway, આભાર.

Nice smile.gif Very close to Belgium wink.gif I do happen to visit Châlons, Champagne-Ardenne & Reims every now & then (when I'm in Europe) as I've friends living there. Also, I make frequent visits to Luxembourg (very close to Metz) because of the brand of my cigarettes. Besides, you do know that I've been following you on SC since a few months now, do you? smile.gif

Bangaldesh was a part of India and Bengali is from the roots, an Indian language. Our National song (Vande Mataram) was written by a Bengali. Yes, my native language is Gujarati but the dialects differ with each city in the state of Gujarat. Like for example, I'm a Kathiyawadi (same group of Castes and Sub-Castes where our PM, Mr. Modi & India's richest, probably amongst the world's top five, people like the Ambani of Reliance, Dilip Sanghavi of Sun Pharma, belong to). On the whole, the heirarchy of the Caste system is a lot more complicated but very versatile and very interesting to know. Albeit, I only the know and can segregate the Caste system of Gujarat and I've no idea about any other 20+ States in India.

My native is Russian; I also can speak English, though writing in it is easier for me (and still I make mistakes blush.gif ). I also tried to learn Hebrew, but, lets just say "Fate decreed otherwise" .
