I'm Malaysian.
I speak both english and chinese. It's a bit complicated. I converse in English with: -Myself(yes i talk to myself) -Most of the guys in my dad's side of my family -My siblings -Most of my close friends(particularly those fluent in English). -Non Chinese foreigners -A few of my teachers and basically anyone who can and will converse in fluent English in a non Scottish accent. With the sole exception being: -this girl(who happens to also be my first friend) who i hardly even interact with now because she refuses to speak english. Says it causes "failure to communicate" That's what education here in Malaysia does to you, btw. "Wut? The whole situation doesn't make sense. Why don't you just switch languages then?" *sighs deeply While I converse in chinese with: -most of my Chinese friends -Most of the people in my mum's side of my family -Most of my teachers With a few exceptions being: -My granduncle, who speaks fluent English but doesn't understand a single word of Chinese -My 3yo cousin who i speak to in some random alien blubber because i'm not very sure what language i should use. He can speak a bit of chinese now, though. |

Well, as a student of linguistics and a general international lover of languages I speak and write many languages so I guess the dominate answer in my case would be "Other ". Also as someone who lives in a multilingual environment. Though I would choose French from the list. Currently learning communicate in Afrikaans.

I can understand most of Afrikaans if it's written, and I know that people who are native to South Africa can also understand written Dutch.
but don't ask me to have a spoken conversation in our native languages I myself am Dutch by birth and my main language is Dutch. But I'm also pretty decent with English and an absolute noob at Swedish This post has been edited by Hecthor Doomhammer: 21 Feb 2017, 16:20 |

Where do you guys learn afrikaans in the first place...? I've lived close to South African people, and their son was a childhood friend of mine. Later through the power of the interwebs I've played a browser based MMO (Ogame if you're curious), and in the alliance Iwas in we had a few South Africans too |
