Anyone know any good non-Marvel/DC comic books? I can name a few I have already ready: DMZ, Hack/Slash, Witchblade, and Y: The Last Man.

Theese are the largest slice owners of the Comic book markets "pie" so to say agaisnt Marvel and DC there is a gap of like 15-20% with independant publishers but they're just small time stuff..

Well let's have a look at my old comics collection. It's a little complicated though because the editors that translate comics in France do their own groupings of releases, and sometimes the names may differ a little from their original US Editing companies.

So as for Witchblade it's not that simple because the series was first created by awesome cartoonist Michael Turner (R.I.P), best of all times IMO, but who had some desire of independence that led him to create his own editing company after a trial with his original editor. Actually some releases of the Fathom series stayed away from bookshops for some times, waiting for court decision. Finally I guess the Witchblade series stayed at Image, being pursued by other cartoonists.

So actually to Bruce's List I would add Aspen Comics, Turner's own company, where the Image Fathom series was pursued in April 2005 (to may 2008 i guess), along with Cannon Hawke (derived from Fathom) and Soulfire. Just to say, if you liked Whitchblade, you will like Fathom even more. Now I must admit it was a real pain to gather the whole series, perhaps right now you can find some hardback edition searching in the corner of Delcourt Comics or asking at some bookshop near your home.

Also my favourites :

• Image / Top Cow comics : Witchblade and Tales of the Witchblade, The Darkness, Spawn, Ascension, Hellshok, start of Fathom series and some Fathom - Tomb Raider crossover (yeah the well-known ooooooooooooooh Lara drawn by Turner himself), some crossovers with Marvel too (I got one n°5 dating back to october 1997 where Sarah Pezzini meets Wolverine)
  
  
• Dark Horse : The Mask series, even more fun than the two movies derived from the comic (I guarantee you'll be LYAO at every single page), though a real pain to find too (just found some stray releases in the basement of some specialized comic bookshops in Paris). Also I guess that the Star Wars comic series was also published at Dark Horse. And last but not least awesome Frank Miller's Sin City recently brought to screen by Robert Rodriguez (prolly along with 300 from the same cartoonist). Note : Frank Miller's works are now available in hardback from Rakham edition.
