Ahem, gentlemen. It has come to our attention that Rise of the Reds would benefit greatly from a Rise of the Reds article and I concur. Now I can't do this on my own even if I dedicated enough time because I'm terribly at editing wikis. This is where the rest of you come in. This will be an open project to all community members that are willing that can participate in. You can help the project in one of more of these activities:

1) Fluff (Explaining and answering the fluff to people)
2) Trope spotting (spotting a trope and correctly classifying it)
3) Article Editing (Make the article look presentable)
4) Discussions (Your chance to help improve the fluff and at the same time become more familiar with it)

How will this work?

A perfectly good example would be this:

Member A spots a trope and presents it
Member A and D starts a discussion over the trope and subject
Member B clarifies and broadens the subject
A consensus is reached and the trope is finalized for listing
Member C edits the new trope into the article.

Any questions?

Well, we could note that it's the most expansive/ambitious mod made for C&C Generals (As far as I know of), and perhaps second only to Red Alert 3 Paradox in scale. We also need a link to the site (obvious) and a short summary of what the mod is.

How about these faction tropes for a start?
United States of America:
Americans Are Cowboys
Attack Drone: Plenty of unmanned combat vehicles.
Badass Boast: Col. Burton and the Pathfinders are the most obvious examples
Beam Spam
BFG: The Particle Cannon
Blinded By The Light: The Ranger's Flashbangs
Cold Sniper: The Pathfinder
Cool Plane: Sort of their thing.
Eagleland: Both Types 1 and 2.
Elite Army
Invisibility Cloak
Hover Tank: The Crusader
Frickin' Laser Beams
Kill Sat: Subverted with the Particle Beam Cannon

Wave Motion Gun: The Particle Beam Cannon, again.
Wild Weasel: The Stealth Fighter.
Yanks With Tanks

Global Liberation Army:
Action Bomb: Terrorists or Bomb Trucks
Awesome Personnel Carrier: The Battle Bus
Back From The Brink: Again!
Base On Wheels
Break Out The Museum Piece: Makes heavy use of Cold War era weaponry.

Hit-and-Run Tactics
Hypocrite: In droves.
Incredibly Obvious Bomb: Bomb Trucks when not camouflaged.
Invisibility Cloak
Improvised Weapon: A whole lot.
Knight Templar
Landmine Goes Click
Macross Missile Massacre: Most of their artillery centers around this.
Mad Bomber
Master Poisoner: General Suleimaan.
Middle Eastern Coalition: Loosely.
Multiple Life Bars: Their buildings, and the Battle Bus.
Occupiers Out Of Our Country: Their motive.
The Revolution Will Not Be Civilized
Stealth-Based Game: When you play as them.
Suicide Attack: Terrorists
Technicolor Toxin
Terrorists Without a Cause
Trying To Catch Me Fighting Dirty: Plenty of dick moves and sneaky tactics.
Tube Travel: their tunnel network system, now much expanded.
Tunnel King
Poisoned Weapons
Universal Poison: Anthrax is inexplicably this.
Worker Unit: The Worker
Your Terrorists Are Our Freedom Fighters

People's Republic of China:
Attack! Attack! Attack!
Awesome Personnel Carrier: The Chinese APC.
Bayonet Ya
BFG: The Overlord Tank and Nuclear Artillery.

I ain't that good picking correct tropes so I'll just point out some possible points till I get the hang of things a bit more -

QUOTE
Hypocrite: In droves.

Hypocrite more or less goes for every single faction in the game

US

lives on super science
Doing what's right - at least according to most US unit voices
Knight Templar - Crusader and Paladin
QUOTE
Cool Plane: Sort of their thing.

How about "death from above"? That kinda sums them up.
War is expensive
Awesome Personnel Carrier - Humvee/any of it's super variants the Special Forces might have

China

Needs a trope about their propaganda machine.
I have China's blessings - what infantry and tank crew think before getting poured on enemy, resulting in most of them kicking the bucket
Patriotic Fervor - also goes for China. Dunno if their's should be called commie fervour instead.
QUOTE
Break Out The Museum Piece: Makes heavy use of Cold War era weaponry.

Also goes for China - RGs apparently using bolt-action rifles or something similar.
Helix for Chopper support and flying tank.
Needs a trope showing they build structures on their tank
QUOTE
Kill It With Fire: The Chinese also heavily use incendiary weapons.

How about "drown them in fire"?
QUOTE
Nuke 'Em: China's MO.

Brighter then the sun?

Russia

needs a trope showing how they see the war as their glorious revenge.
Needs another one showing how everything simply evaporates by the FoAB or Buratino shells.
Hind for chopper support and flying tank.
Armed to the teeth - Almost every vehicle have multiple weapon systems
Training From Hell - also goes for the Spetsnaz
Going ballistics - Topol-M
Nuke 'Em - again Topol-M

ECA

Vessel buddies - their vessels in Africa
Economic superpower
Ground shattering - ECA artillery
BFG - Manticore
One tank army - Again Manitcore, for having build limit of 1

Bit of clarification here, we're talking about this website and how ROTR's gonna get an article on it.
Fluff = Background information that solely serves to flesh out the story universe with little actual impact in-game
Trope = A linguistic/narrative device

Now, some additions. Krieger, you already did a good job composing these and I'm going to expand on them.

No specified order yet:

Testosterone Poisoning: Colonel Burton. To a lesser degree, the Russian hero unit Boris
Elites Are More Glamorous - Army Rangers act as standard infantry for the Americans. US Special Forces General Thorn even replaces them with Green Berets and Russian Rapid Deployment General Orlov takes it to the extreme by using Spetznas troopers for every possible purpose
United Europe - Subverted when the Russians ruined it. However, I should be noted that the ECA never conceived itself as a fully unified, centralised super-state but a strong alliance between souvereign nations
Brits With Battleships - ECA Fire Support General Charles
Dutchmen With Destroyers - ECA Royal Guard General Willem
We Are Not The Wehrmacht - ECA Mechanised Assault General Wolfgang
First Name Basis - Inexplicably, the ECA generals Charles, Willem and Wolfgang are refered to by their first names
History Repeats - Africa gets re-colonised by foreign powers, including Europe, the US, Russia and China, sometime in 2020 and all of them are in it mostly for the rare untapped resources
African Terrorists - The new GLA is mostly based in central Africa
Malevolent Masked Man - Russian Advanced Weapons General Aleksander is only seen wearing a gasmask. GLA Bio-Command General Ibrahiim prefers a shemagh and murky goggles
He Who Fights Monsters - Getting abandoned by their US allies and ravaged by the GLA had quite an effect on the Europeans. The ECA is a democratic institution but at the same time, paranoid, secluded and with slight traces of authoritarianism. The Russian invasion may or may not push them over the edge

Impossible Thief - Black Lotus, to a lesser extent the Capture upgrade.

Super Powered Mooks - Averted. Shock Troopers are feared to be superhuman but they just can push their bodies to the limit.

Praetorian Guard - General Aleksandr does not entrust his personal security to poorly trained conscripts. An even finer line of Shock Troopers also act as his elite guard, you can only guess how elite these guys are. (Nightmare Fuel)

New Meat - Russian Conscripts' only training is a 30 minute instructional video. Soon, they either are promoted or are expected to die in combat.

Cold Sniper - Jarmen Kell.

Weapon of Choice - Too many to list

Mêlée à Trois - Although all factions have at least one common enemy but in reality they are all working against each other.

Gentleman Thief - One of the scrapped concepts for the ECA Hero

Phantom Thief - Hijacker

*at job, no time to read all*

Some more:

China Takes Over The World - Subverted. They merely annex some of their smaller neighbours, buy large swathes of Africa and strong-arm all of south-east Asia into their hegemony
America Takes Over The World - Inverted. After their retreat from Europe, the US revert to isolationism which eventually breaks their economy's back, forcing them to form an economic trade bloc with Canada and Mexico. They get better by the time Russia invades Europe though.
Space Filling Empire - The creation of large, supra-national organisations like the corporate NAU, the pro-Russian NSAU, the powerless African Union and the pro-Chinese SSAN appears like this, although they only make an appearance in the backstory. Played somewhat straighter with China and Russia who annexed some of their neighbours
Cruel And Unusual Death - Getting shot by bullets is probably the least nasty cause of death for the average infantryman. Getting dissolved by toxins, burned by napalm or disintegrated via Tesla bolt...not so much
Sociopathic Soldier - Aleksander's Shock Troopers are trained to become this. The backstory describes their training methods as literally inhumane and those who survive to graduate end up as living war machines that run solely on fanatical nationalism, social-darwinism and pure hatred
Badass Mustache - Russian hero Boris and General Orlov
Cavalry Refusal - The Europeans did this to the Russian expeditionary forces in Africa, leading to their wholesale slaughter at the hands of the GLA. Russia didn't take kindly to it to say the least.
Gatling Good - The Chinese employ a variety of gatling machine guns, all of which are completely overshadowed by the Russian Tremor superweapon which is a literal gatling artillery cannon
Deadline News - Implied to be the fate of Eric Bryce from ECAN news after the Russians conquer Berlin
It's Raining Men - The US and Russia can call in paratroopers
Cool Versus Awesome

Nuclear Weapons Taboo - Applies to all factions with exception of China and General Zhukov.

Mobile Factory - Vehicles are manufactured IN the battlefield.

Moral Dissonance - Applies pretty much to all factions, though some more than others.

Red Oni, Blue Oni - The US and China. Though at the opposite ends of the spectrum, they both counterbalance each other.

Chekhov's Gun - The Tremor. It actually does more than repeatedly fire giant shells in a bombardment pattern.

Cool plane - Applies to all factions and why they exist.

Deconstruction - ROTR started out as a futuristic spin off of the Cold War gone wrong but the story has started to reflect a lot about the world of today and what it could become in a near future.

Gunship Rescue - Normal occurrence in a game.

Chekhov's Gun - The Tremor. It actually does more than repeatedly fire giant shells in a bombardment pattern.
That's not how Chekov's Gun works, it's supposed to be a seemingly trivial item that does no significant action until some point in the future, and the secret action isn't even given a hint. However, you can use the following tropes to describe the Tremor AGAS: Meaningful Name, Area of Effect, Earthquake Machine, BFG and Gatling good.

General-specific Tropes/Character Sheets(Will be edited more later)
    Russian Federation
  • General Orlov - Rapid Deployment
    • Surprisingly Elite Cannon Fodder — His forces are said to overrun enemy installations within a short time by themselves.
    • Badass Mustache
    • Elites Are More Glamorous — All of his infantry units are replaced with Spetsnaz, yes, EVERYTHING.

  • General Zhukov - Tactical Ballistics
    • Comic Book Fantasy Casting — He might was well be an obvious reincarnation of Marshall Georgy Zhukov.
    • Cool Old Guy — Turned 63 in a media update recently.
    • Mnogo Nukes Intercontinental Missiles — His specialty and his signature unit is the TOPOL-M.
    • Difficult But Awesome — TOPOL-M's are expensive yet come from the factory empty handed, and the huge missiles are sold separately which is also expensive plus there's a cooldown timer to prevent consecutive use. However, when you see them in use, it's worth the effort to see the mass destruction spilled all over the enemy base.

  • General Aleksandr - Secret Weapons

    European Continental Alliance
  • General Willem - Royal Guard
    • Dutchmen With Destroyers
    • Stone Wall — His playing style and main strategy, however expert players will subvert this by being an impenetrable wall around your main base.
    • The Engineer — Mentioned in his background.
    • Gatling Good

  • General Wolfgang - Mechanized Assault
    • We Are Not The Wehrmacht
    • Comic Book Fantasy Casting — Clearly based on General Wolfgang Schneiderhan, former chief of staff of the German Bundeswehr.
    • Meaningful Name — He isn't called 'The Huntsman' for nothing.
    • Tank Goodness — The tank destroyer 'Jagdmammut' and the rest of his tanks.
    • Onrushing Army — His Panzerkrieg strategy, employing his Cool Tanks, Awesome Personnel Carriers and infantry support.

  • General Charles - Fire Support
    • Cool Old Guy
    • A Father To His Men — Enjoys fighting alongside his men.

  • General Thorn
    • Diffcult But Awesome — Requires a constant watch over the enemy and heavy coordination, but when done correctly he can bring down an entire base with one strike.
    • The Strategist

  • General Jin
    • Secret Police
    • StateSec
    • Brainwashing For The Greater Good/Patriotic Fervour — He IS the propaganda general, right?
    • EMP

  • Template
    • Item

EDIT: Wow, MARS got ahead of me.

EDIT2: Don't have much time, I'll be attending something.

Dude, it's explained above. Tropes are narrative devices your audience will recognise. "The Hero" is a trope. "Big Bad" is a trope. "Kill it with Fire" is a trope. Each of those and thousands upon thousands more are shorthands, concepts that are known and accepted. Whenever you write something, you use, consciously or not, tropes that have been used dozens of times before. In other words you cannot write a story that does not use tropes and that's why originality is dead. Creativity however is NOT, because that is clever use of tropes played in interesting ways. However, tropes are tools and nothing else. Using a lot of tropes won't make your work any better. That's reserved for writing style and presentation. Finally, TV Tropes itself is an analytic wiki with a humorous bend, figuring out why fiction and Real Life work the way and they do and their conventions.

Ace Pilot - US Airforce General Griffon
The Engineer - ECA General Willem's military background. Combat engineer to be precise
A Father To His Men - ECA Fire Support General Charles enjoys great respect among his troops on a personal level
Roaring Rampage Of Revenge - Red Army General Chen apparently did this to the GLA after witnessing a massacre
Meaningful Name - General Griffon (=griffin) is an airforce commander, US Tank General Bradley shares the name of one of his vehicles and ECA General Wolfgang has been nicknamed 'the Huntsman' for his relentless pursuit of enemies
Cool Old Guy - Russian Tactical Ballistics General Zhukov turned 63 in a media update.
Comic Book Fantasy Casting - ECA General Wolfgang is clearly based on General Wolfgang Schneiderhan, former chief of staff of the German Bundeswehr and Russian Tactical Ballistics General Zhukov might as well be Marshal Georgy Zhukov reincarnate
Continuity Reboot - SWR's RotR is very different from the mods original incarnation
Artifact Title - Unlike the original Revora version, SWR no longer depicts the Russians as neo-communists, making the 'reds' part somewhat obsolete
Dragon Ascendant - Done twice with the GLA. Bio Command General Ibrahiim started out as a commander in the army of Dr. Thrax and Warlord Sulaymaan used to be Deathstrike's lieutenant
Black Market - Provides the GLA with income, upgrades and higher tier technologies

PS @ GT
Willem would be a Stonewall, which focusses entirely on defence wheras a Mighty glacier has supreme defence AND great power at the cost of mobility/speed

Problems I have with current proposed tropes (<- "is a problem", -> "change into"):
BFG: The Particle Cannon <- It's an energy weapon.
Eagleland: Both Types 1 and 2. <- How are they type 2?
Kill Sat: Subverted with the Particle Beam Cannon -> Inverted
Point Defenseless: Averted -> Subverted.
Gatling Good: The Chinese make extensive use of Vulcan cannon like machine guns and autocannon. -> Gatling tanks, stationary base defenses and as upgrades.
I Love Nuclear Power <- Only for usage with magical radiation, i.e. creating The Hulk.
Kill It With Fire: The Chinese also heavily use incendiary weapons. -> Flamethrower tanks, infantry, artillery and even helicopters.
More Dakka: See Gatling Good. -> Gatling weapons can be upgraded to have an even higher rate of fire.
Slap On The Wrist Nuke: Clearly averted. -> Played with. It's stronger than the normal ZH nuke but still much weaker than a real warhead.
BFG: The Sentinel Tank mounts a 220mm cannon. -> The Sentinel Tank mounts a 220mm cannon. Taken Up To Eleven with the Tremor, a giant gatling artillery cannon.
Chain Lightning: Tesla weapons can have this effect. <- They cannot.
Reds With Rockets/Russians With Rusting Rockets: Played straight. -> Russians With Rusting Rockets: Subverted.
Red Oni, Blue Oni - The US and China. Though at the opposite ends of the spectrum very much alike. -> The US and China with matching colours even. Though at the opposite ends of the spectrum very much alike.

Isn't red oni supposed to be fiery and impulsive? That's more USA IMO.
Blue oni is supposed to be reserved, calculating. That's China for sure.

O.o China is the impulsive one, while the USA use calm surgical attacks. Or at least that's this way for me.

Nah the US is a whole lot more gung ho than China is.

China is a whole lot stricter and rigid.

Gotta agree with Joao. In terms of storyline, China is busy consolidating and developing their huge territorial gains from the previous war while their economy is still booming whereas the US got their backs to the wall after the near-death of their isolationist economy which led to large amounts of civil unrest back home. After the foundation of NAU, they became a lot more gung-ho, some would say downright aggressive. How else do you think did they get a hold of their African territories?

Admittedly, some of the lore-related tropes are currently based on our internal concepts; you can deduct them from things that we've already published but a few things about our universe haven't been made entirely clear to the public yet.

Character Sheets for the RF are done at v.1.3. I'll work on the ECA tomorrow.

Self Destructive Charge - Applies mostly to the GLA with suicide units and the Scorpion tank managing to get cross several meters when the unit is already dead (possibly managing to bring infantry down with him). Also applies to all infantry in the game since they keep fearlessly advancing even when they are crippled and an inch away from death.

Magnetic Hero - Fits Warlord General Sulaymaan best. His troops are undying loyal to him. His background and personality is modeled after great warlords of history and he's as ingenious and charismatic as most of them.

Glorious Leader - General Aleksandr

Hit and Run Tactics - Although all factions can do this to some extent, this is the GLA's specialty.

Instant Death Radius - Applies to many units but particularly getting in the firing range of hard hitting and at the same time resilient units such as the Sentinel and Overlord. Meaning you'll need to overpower them with tactics or overpower them with sheer numbers.

Immaturity Incarnate

Seeing how this is all going I'll give it a try:

Chemical Dust - toxic weapons
Rage Against The Heavens - Pure destruction because of cool planes
The Dark Side - Evil side of Russia
