Little Wars
He basically picked up the idea of the 'Kriegsspiel', a bone-dry tactical war simulator of the Prussian army from the early 1800s that makes today's Arma2 look like a casual game on the Wii in terms of complexity, simplified the rules to gear it more towards fun rather than realism (See? Even HE already knew that fun > realism) and added a bit of a roleplaying aspect as well. Basically, this man invented tabletop RPGs and strategy games for entertainment purposes in 1913. So not only did have an awesome moustache and write more novels and essays than the average humanoid will ever read in his lifetime, including two of most important science fiction stories ever (period), he was basically the first modern gamedesigner. Respect, good sir, respect! |
