from what I recall, in direct connect the connection is more stable.. You give your IP to your friend, and vice-versa (i'm not sure in this last part though can't remember what it was needed to share).

^ Basically correct. You connect directly to a specific IP, which is more secure and stable. However, since you have to actually put in the specific IP to connect to, it's impractical for playing with random people online. Friends, though, it's pretty good for.

Just a little a addition if swr.net will be released you will have the option to forward one port on your sStem which then allows you do create direct connections to every other player available.

Which makes the direct connect button pretty much obsolete.
