I just got this game on Windows 8.1.

When I try to open Generals or Generals Zero hour, it tells me that I do not have Directx 8.1 or higher installed, when I do.

I'm wondering how to fix this problem, as it is preventing me from playing the game. Can someone link me to the directx that I need to be able to play this game? Thank you.

Aut vincere aut mori, Cave quid dicis, quando, et cui, De duobus malis, minus est semper eligendum.

DirectX 11.2 is included in Windows 8.1, Windows RT and Windows Server 2012 R2.
Note There is no standalone update package for DirectX 11.2. You can only install this DirectX version through Windows Update in Windows 8.1, Windows RT and Windows Server 2012 R2.

From the EA help site.

Our team is aware of a Direct X 8.1 error affecting Command & Conquer Generals and Command & Conquer Zero Hour.

To work your way around this issue, proceed to follow the steps below:

1.Locate your C&C Generals or C&C Zero-Hour folder in your Program Files.
2.Locate the file dbghelp.dll
3.Delete the file.
4.Attempt to start Generals again.

Some people have reported that the game folder contains 2 copys of the dbghelp.dll file. deleteing both then running the game fixed the problem.

I tried that. No luck. I think I will just reinstall the game and see what happens.

I get this error whenever I set some resolution that is not supported by my graphic card (lets say 801x601). Try to run the game in windowed mode, if it works, then this is the case (because in windowed mode you can start the game even with resoution 15135 x 6484).

Is there a way for me to change my game so that it automatically starts using window mode?

Currently, there is no way for me to access the game, so which file do I change so that it can open in window mode?

EDIT: Nevermind, found out.

Thank you so much man.
