This is a tank supposedly developed by Norinco (A chinese military firm) and it still in concept stage. But damn it looks pretty. Also this would look so damn good in a game . It also seems to have a rail gun capable of firing various types of projectiles including non lethal stuff.
However i could not find more info on this in the net apart from the forum i got this image. This might well be a fake thing done for fun but it looks damn good IMO. This post has been edited by Raven: 6 Jan 2010, 8:52 -------------------- |

I wouldn't be too sure about that 2019 date, though. This is all cool on paper but the question is: How do you get the power for a bleeding railgun on a main battle tank?

That's all cool in theory but the question is: How do you get the power for a bleeding railgun on a main battle tank? How can you put doubt in Chinese to develop something like this they obviously upgraded to fusion reactors by now! -------------------- |

Obviously. Also, one thing that the concept failed to reveal is that the tank itself drives at Mach 3, flies, goes under water and into SPACE.

Noes, my first double post in ages! Fixed Jimo fission reactor. It's the size of an oil barrel. Part of NASA's now dormant project Prometheus, to have nuclear reactors power spacecraft. Not really giving it much chance though. Such reactors are designed primarily for longevity, not for the high spike power bursts a railgun needs. Perhaps they should consider an antimatter reactor or a zero point energy extractor? -------------------- |

I'm a fan of the shape of the hull but not so much on the placement on the railgun - NEEDS MORE ASYMMETRICAL DESIGN SGSGHFHSAH...

Also the new Chinese QBZ series weapons would be cool to use in a shooter like MW or MOH. OP FP:DR had QBZ weapons though... -------------------- |

It's obviously a concept image for a game or some guy made it just for fun - the Chinese arms manufacturer is Norinco, not Norincorp Secondly, the fact that it has some guy's name at the bottom (and is from the conceptart forums)supports this. Thirdly, this tank appears way to advanced for anything other than a mere abstract concept (at this point in time). Railguns? Biomechanical armor? Pulsed energy projectiles? -------------------- "No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country."-- George S. Patton

Biometals and railguns aren't too far off I guess. Give them 2-3 decades before becoming practical.

Not really, microbiology is full of metals. Only that probably has nothing to do with the sci-fi crap proposed there.

Biomechanical armour is probably just another cool-sounding technobabble buzzword. Sure, you CAN look at certain mechanics/designs in biology and TRY to apply some
of these concepts to machines using non-biological materials but just because a synthetic device mimics the shape/function of a living creature doesn't make it biological. |
