Hi I wonder if anyone can help!!
I am playing command and conquer generals/Zero hour - ROTR... on my PC, which runs fine on my windows 7 64, however when i go to save the game the game closes out to windows and i get an error box comes up saying technical difficulties, sorry a serious error occurred!! This is so frustrating as i cant play the whole game without saving. I have tried running the game as administrator, compatibility mode etc and all patches up to date, as well as going into the files and changing read write option for all admin and users and even even changed the ini file in the c&c folder and nothing works.
I used to play it on my xp system and worked fine but it wont work on my windows 7 system I am running windows 7 home premium 64 bit Intel Core , 4 Gig RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT Nothing is wrong with the game play on i cant save and hence i cant load. I never usually get this problem or is it a map issue even though it works most of the time. Its a pain in the ass and their seems to be no solution anywhere.

Thanks, and Any help would be appreciated!! biggrin.gif

Oh dear, um... let's see...

First go to folder options, in the control panel and uncheck Hide extensions of known file types, in the View tab.
This will let you see the file extension of all file types, not jus those not recognised by windows, and allow you to change a files file type by changing the extension in the name.

Go to the folder location where generals keeps its saves, in your case C:\User\sims\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data\Save, create a .txt file and name it 00000000.sav
Try recreating the conditions of the error you're experiencing, and hope for the best.
If you did this right, maybe Generals will recognise the file as the file it's trying, and failing, to write, and the issue will be resolved.

Or it will fail to write 00000001.sav instead.
