So I just got into Witcher III; which I've heard is famous for featuring some high-quality sex scenes. This got me wondering, in games like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Witcher and probably more, do you do the romance side-quests, or do you ignore them completely? Me, I usually do them on the first playthrough but don't really care for other ones since, well, they're all rather redundant in my opinion. As a poll option says, you're supposed to save the galaxy/world/your daughter and you decide to take some moment off to bang? Yeah, right. What do you think of these romance side-quests? Worth your time or waste of talents?

I liked the MGS bond system, sure it isnt love but the idea is that the more you interact and need them around the more they have bonding with you.
Alongside this, just pick up flowers from half way across the world to gain favor is boring as hell, or the skyrim way of a neclace letting you marry anyone (No questions asked) and them giving you an allowance every week. If it makes sense and the charecter has real dept only then do I bother with romance sidequests, which is really lacking in nearly everywhere, Plus a "slice of life" feel to bring the charecter to a more human level is also a good way to implement this.Such as Edzio with the girl she loved when she was young or the one she married in Istambul.Sure your an assassin but assassins need feeling too Might add something to this later.... -------------------- |

When it's simply part of the plot and well-written rather than just tacked on for the sake of having it, sure. Say you travel around and your actions have automatic effects on your followers. Else no.

Sure, why not? As Bruce said, it makes it more interesting that way. Besides, all side-missions can prolong your play two or even three times. Ever tried playin' Assassin or Mass Effect without them? Boring as hell. That is, at least to me.
Plus, Morinth and the hottest MILF (or is it GILF) in the Universe, her Mom Samara. -------------------- |

Bang with them, no doubt. In great RPG games like Mass Effect, Witcher and others, these little romances play nice niche role and help you to expand the game's universe even further. To an extent, of course.

In San Andreas you actually get something worth a effort for it,you get into relationship with Chinese girl,
she a nurse, you get weapon stay with you each time you die,and you don't have to pay medical care. Also there is a police milf gurl in desert,so if you with her,you get all weapons back when busted. They are ones I always keep close to CJ when playing GTA SA,since I play cheat free, they really make things easier. |

Depends on the game and romance in question:
Some games have them written in well, others like Witcher 1 and 2 just had extended sex scenes for dev's own amusement Bioware romances (Mass Effect and Dragon Age) are a subtype of their own and started with Baldur's gate 2. That game had pretty good female romances for its time and they still hold well for today. Mass Effect romances for example vary heavily: Liara's is done best in the game, Tali's and Garrus' are middle of quality and someone like Ashley's or Jacob's is plain terrible, my sole nitpick is that you actually can't avoid starting them. For Witcher 3 i highly suggest to pick Yennefer's romance first unless you are playing through all three games in a row. As a stand alone Yen has it better, while Triss had it poorly till CDproject expanded it after the release (and lots of vocal feedback on forums). I guess you haven't read Witcher books? |

It really depends on the game, character and overall setup of the story. Sometimes I find it very stupid and I am not a fan of "you can seduce/romance everyone" in a game. I'd prefer it to be logical depending on character choice.
