So, a friend and I just bought C&C Generals Zero Hour tonight via Origin's deal on the entire franchise for $5. I had played Generals before, he hadn't.

I convinced him to give Shockwave a try, as I've had fun with it in Singleplayer.

We both downloaded Shockwave for our new versions, installed SWR.net, enabled it in the launcher, and tried to get multiplayer working. We've both enabled direct connect, however upon trying to connect to either one of our IP's, we get a time out error.

To the person hosting the server, the client joins, name and all, but the little light next to their name never lights up, and a few minutes later they get auto-kicked for inactivity.

The person joining never actually joins the server, they just receive a connection timed out error.

My port in the launcher is the default it set (19850), my router's ports are open, I have no issues hosting other games. The same error occurs when I try to join my friend, despite the fact that I do not believe that he has his ports open.

Is this just an issue with C&C's networking, or are we doing something wrong?

First there is no C&C networking. If you are playing Shockwave or ROTR, it is SWR Network.

Secondly, in ROTR we disable/uncheck direct connect, choose Ignore and launch. Try doing that because I just tried it and got connected to the Shockwave multiplayer.

This was eventually fixed by using Tunngle to LAN to each other. No idea why the SWR network doesn't wanna work for us, but whatever.
