I have been looking at this mod for several months now, and as I am very satisfied with Shockwave, I expect it to be much more beautiful. Although I can't still play it (2Gb RAM was broken after 5 years, need to currently use an old 256mb RAM now, and can't even play Shw without so much lag) I am looking forward to it.

I hope as a skilled story writer, this fanfiction would be enticing. (And not too boring)

OVERVIEW: Prior to ROTR canon, Southeast Asia had not been touched by war, and the region was relatively peaceful. The Southeast Asian countries managed to survive their energy needs by means of renewable sources, such as wind power and hydroelectric dams. The Philippines pioneered the use of Tidal barriers as a source of electricity. The Indonesians held one of the largest wind farms in the world, the Java Sea Wind Farm. The "four tigers" economies, Japan, South Korea, PRC and Singapore, is actively engaged in economic ties. But, when the GLA attacked mainland PRC during the Global Liberation War, these ties were severely impacted, and so what ensued was a shift of economic balance; the "four tigers" was replaced by the "five dragons"; Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the relatively new players Indonesia and Philippines. the PRC, however, desiring to attain Chinese economical hegemony, sought out a new trading partner; the newly-formed ECA. Then, the story slowly envelops to ROTR canon; with China preoccupied in continental affairs, the five dragons were being increasingly concerned with China's superior quantity, and in some aspects, quality, of their armed forces. This phenomenon sparked an Arms Race between Japan, South Korea and Indonesia, while Singapore quietly strengthened their already seemingly impregnable naval forces, while the Philippines placidly ignored all of these, content of their defense agreement with USA. But as USA seemingly developed a policy of non-intervention, a Filipino politician, Janus Guriado, together with his long-time Japanese friend and Minister without Portfolio Sagumo Hajime, struggled to make the Philippines and the entire "five dragons" economies an effective counter against Chinese military hegemony.

Chapter 1: The Capability in Question

All promises are meant to be broken.

This proverb struck Exterior Adviser Janus Guriado with no small sense of dread. With the U.S. seemingly preoccupied in its internal affairs, he faced a very daunting task ahead of him; make his country's armed forces, consisting of pre-,post-WWII, and Cold-war era inventories, be able to stand up against China's naval might. Not only that, he also had to make sure to advise his president correctly, and not kill myself in the process, he thought.

To do that, he had his ear in the Japanese ministry, Hajime-san, and nothing more. What a great clusterfuck to be in this job! He thought to himself. But he reached his current position of Exterior Minister, by not whining about the challenges he faced, but by solving them. He again recited in his mind the only possible sources of modern arms for them in this current era; U.S., ECA, South Korea and Brazil; they aren't exactly inclined to use Russian weaponry, and the Chinese would laugh if their meager country asks for arms. Japan's defense industries evaporated as fast as America's closing of their naval bases in Sasebo and Okinawa. Overall, the situation he faced was not good.

I think that might be the understatement of the century, He thought.

****

Janus started his working day by briefing his president on the daily events that happened, local and international. But his real work as Exterior Minister didn't start until he met with his friend, Minister Sagumo Hajime. As Exterior Minister, his work is about taking care of his country on the international level, which meant that no insane leader could invade his country without him knowing beforehand. That meant he worked closely with KIP, his country's version of CIA, and JIA, the Japanese Intelligence Agency. The two important officials met in a high-clique restaurant in Makati, still the Philippines' hub for the rich, powerful and famous.

The pleasantries were exchanged as soon as they met, then they went down to business.

"Hajime-san, it seems that our armed forces is willing to buy ECA weaponry, no matter the price." Janus said to his friend.

"Oh?" Hajime replied. "And what are those systems, may I ask?"

"Do you really want to know?"

"Well, of course."

"Lynx APCs, Panzerfausts, for starters."

"And then?" Hajime further inquired.

"That's all I can reveal to you, my friend," Janus soothingly reminded. "How about your country?"

"We'd prefer to go South Korean. Although those people bear hate against us Japanese, I think both of our countries could live with that."

"Ohoh," Janus remarked, "So you're willing to pay the highest price, eh?"

"Nothing is too cheap for the pursuit of a country's safety." Hajime replied with a smile.

"But those are second-hand. Are you sure about the quality-"

"Janus-san, my friend," Hajime suddenly retorted, "I know you Filipinos are quite able to maintain even antiquated ships of another bygone century, but do not underestimate the South Koreans; they are quite proficient, I daresay."

"What systems are you exactly pursuing, Hajime-san?"

"Oh, small-scale stuff first, Shatterers, F-15Ks, Avengers, Humvees, those sorts of things. You know how much old U.S. inventory is dumped on South Korea."

"And then?"

"I don't know," Hajime confessed, "Maybe we'll get a destroyer or two. Ought to keep the South Koreans happy."

"Well, your country has the money to throw around," Janus dryly observed, "And we don't. Good day, Hajime-san."

-Chapter END

Please comment if there are any inaccuracies which I could correct. t;line-height:100%">And please don't hurt me.

As of the 2033, North Korea no longer exists... both Japan and South Korea defeated it after it tried to exploit the US pull out so it should just be "Korea" instead of "South Korea".

In fact, you might want to review that update in general.

Maybe they had this conversation -after- the Americans disappeared but shortly -before- the final Korean War broke out. It would explain that there's still an air of unfriendliness between the Japanese and the Koreans, who reconciled their past grievances after they defeated NK together. It is still entirely fair to assume that, even before this war, the island-based countries in the Pacific would attempt to protect themselves against Chinese dominance, especially after the continental countries like Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos etc got strong-armed into the GAPA. I'd be interested to see where this is going.

Thank you for the replies. And now I present;

Chapter 2: On the Verge of Impossibility

Janus returned at his office by midday. On his desk were several reports on daily international matters, specifically, ongoing NK-SK tensions of war, the rapid militarization of Japan, the European Union's drastic change to ECA and current economic figures, which were good at the moment. He focused on the paper describing the ongoing NK-SK war tension. The event has been intensely sensationalized a few months before, but has been largely forgotten by mediamen who have memories of a fish. So far, there had been no known recorded radio traffic in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea., It said. Furthermore, according to footnotes from agents of KIP, it is said that the North Koreans are ever closer to stepping in war than ever before. Janus took notice of this. He then proceeded to "advise" his president.

****

"Mr. President?" Janus asked as he peered inside the President's Office.

"Ah, Janus! Come in." The President amiably replied. Janus took his seat in front of the President heavy oak table.

"So, what urgent news do you have for me today?"

"Sir, the situation in the Korean Peninsula is deteriorating fast. Our agents report that the NKs are ready to move."

"Putang ina yan," The president observed. "What assets could we deploy in that place?"

"The fastest forces we could deploy are our NAVSOG Special Forces. After we deploy a considerable contingent, our Ready Defense Forces. Luckily, three battalions of our RDF have just received the newest weaponry we bought from Europe."

"Would they be able to fight the NKs?" His president inquired.

"Head-on, sir? Impossible." Janus commented honestly. "The only thing would be able to do is delay them, or hold them off in static positions. You cannot fight four shock-army corps with three battalions, Mr. President."

"I will not send our mainline forces if the battle they would face would be a meatgrinder of such intensity." The president commented crossly.

"Mr. President," Janus exasperatedly replied, "In the name of Asian solidarity, we allied ourselves to these people, among others. They have given us economic salvation in the past. Now is the time we could and should repay them."

"I approve of sending our SpecOps Teams there. But the decision of sending our main forces would be a... much more public matter." The president conceded. If there was any weakness in the President, it is his sense of honor, Janus thought.

"Very well," Janus replied, "I shall now make the preparations with AFP and KIP. Have a good day, Mr. President."

Chapter 3: The Nuclear Question

As the sun finally got tired of the day's events, Janus visited the Navy HQ at Sangley point, Cavite. There, he met with Commodore Joshua Larentin, a young, 49-year-old no-nonsense man. They walked along the Sangley Harbor as the two talked.

"Josh, what's the shape of NAVSOG?"

"Training as hard as ever, Minister." The commodore replied with pride. The Philippines' Special Operations groups received the first fruits of the extensive militarization program of the current administration. "Are we going to be sent to Korea?"

"How d'you know about that?" Janus jokingly asked.

"Sir, I read my ops papers, unlike some other parts of the Armed Forces. After all, I'm a combat general, not a political appointee." He replied. And that statement was true; he had both scars and medals to prove it, from his days as a administrative sergeant in NAVSOG up until his participation on the unsuccessful but daring attempt on that Chinese General Kwai's life. After that he retired from active combat operations and sent to be the chief of the Philippines' sea-based special forces. "Well, Minister Guriado?"

"Yes, Josh, you and your men will be sent to Korea by sub insertion, three days from now."

"That fast?" The commodore asked, astonished. Usually, special operations were planned in advance for months, even years, as with the case of Deathstrike's assassination. "Yes, commodore, that fast, so you'd better get going and plan it now with your staffers."

"Will do, Sir." Commodore Joshua saluted and turned away.

"Josh, one more thing."

"What is it, minister?"

"I would like to be the one who'll brief your men, is that all right?"

"I'd never thought you'd ask, Minister."

****

Back at his office, Janus returned to his table. Near his hurricane lamp, he saw an envelope sealed with red wax. How humorous of him, Thinking of Hajime's way of sending documents of the highest value. He cracked the wax and spread the documents on the table.

These are satellite passes, He thought. On one picture, he saw inconspicuously hidden nuclear ballistic missile sites, which is the only kind of ballistic missile, anyway. Oh dear, Janus thought, These would be a pain in the arse. I'd better make these the top priority of those NAVSOG boys. On another, he saw "tank blobs", a clustered formation of tanks. These tanks, however, aren't your regular tanks, as these have a very high heat background according to the infrared picture, and on the paired visual picture, the sat's camera was very precise as that the radiation symbol was very clearly seen on the tanks' tops. Devastators, he immediately thought. How did those backward commies get those? China, has to be China. They were very close "allies" of North Korea. And besides, they were the only ones who made those anyway, He thought. For all of these information available to him and his allies, they couldn't do jack shit about it. It's like receiving a weather report during the rainy season; yes, the rain's going to fall, and yes, the rain will cause a flood, but does the weatherman care if you didn't have boots or an umbrella?

Chapter 4: Operation Starfall, Begin!

The next day, Minister Janus Guriado entered the darkened briefing room. His audience, a gaggle of cold-eyed NAVSOG personnel, sat quietly. There was no noise, no coughing, no indication of fear. These men have been sufficiently told what to expect of their mission; hard, near-impossible and life-threatening. It is time to tell them their actual mission.

"Hello gentlemen," He said as introduction, "I am Minister Guriado, and I am here to brief you personally on OPERATION STARFALL. You will be infiltrating DPRK territory by means of a Japanese submarine, the JSDFS Kenryu , and you will be extracted the same way, the same submarine." So far, so good, He thought. "Your primary mission is to infiltrate, destroy or incapacitate North Korea's nuclear ballistic missile sites in Haeju. If there is still time after you do your primary mission, your secondary mission would be destroying North Korea's stocks of Devastator Nuclear tanks, also in Haeju." He slammed his fist on the lectern, and continued, "Men, this mission of yours would be the most crucial of all since the creation of NAVSOG. Don't mess it up." He saw his audience nodding heads. "We would be working with the Japanese Intelligence Agency and they will be the one who will brief you on the mission's particulars. Any questions men?" There was none.

****

A few hours after the briefing, Janus and Hajime met again in Makati. As they sat, Hajime spoke without preamble. "D'you think that we'll be successful in this op?" Janus looked at his friend and replied, "Hajime-san, in military operations, there is no certainty. Our men would do their very best to accomplish all their missions, but aside from that..." "You are never sure?" Hajime supplied. "Yes, we actually would never be sure. We could only hope for the best and plan for both the best and worst." Janus replied. "I hope that we would be able to carry out our mission." "I hope for not only ours," Janus said, "But also for the men, as well."

****

Two days later, a Philippine Air Force C-130 cargo plane landed at Nagasaki Airport. From there, the passengers were ushered on inconspicuous buses and transported to Sasebo Naval Station.

I have to rest my brain capacity for a day. And Elance work is tiring.

So, here is the new chapter!

Chapter 5: The Treacherous Depths of the Yellow Sea

Colonel Leon Siroy of NAVSOG is not in a happy mood. First, the air travel that made him puke twice in flight, and now this iron coffin that he and his three teams had to ride on for three more hours. Fuck that, and they even prohibit smoking in this godforsaken place, He thought sourly. Fookin' squids!

****

Meanwhile forward, Captain Kunoichi Sakabichi of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force Ship Kenryu had a similar disposition. For nearly five hours and counting since they left port, they have been moving slowly and silently on the shallow depths of the Yellow Sea. His submarine is not used to this kind of territory; the Kenryu-class Submarines is more suited to "Blue-sea warfare" where the average depth is 250 meters. The depth at the Yellow Sea averages about 90 meters due to erosion and the inherent mud at the bottom. Due to this, his submarine responded sluggishly at his command, and the fact that he had encountered three PLAN destroyers, and the fact that he has no thermocline to hide on fueled his foul mood. "Just three more hours, Kunoichi-sama. We could do this." His navigator said. Kunoichi just nodded. He snatched a look at the course map and closed his eyes. Just a nautical mile away from their destination.

"Captain!" His sonarman said. "Enemy active sonar pinging, course two seven six, very faint. Designating this as Sierra-Seven." Kunoichi grunted. The fact that the North Koreans either have ASW-capable destroyers, or they have allowed Chinese ships on their sea, is unnerving him. "Rig ultraquiet. Turn off all nonessential equipment. Set course zero one seven, reduce speed to six knots." Kunoichi commanded silently. He felt the submarine sway as the sub responded slowly to the course change. The swaying finally abated, and then his sonarman screamed: "Captain! Torpedo sonar!". Kunoichi then turned. "What direction?!"

"It's from Sierra-Seven, sir!"

"Increase speed to maximum! Fire the ADCAP fish at Sierra-Seven!" He heard the soft whoosh as the single ADCAP (Advance Capability) torpedo they have was released.

"What kind of torpedo is that?"

"Sir, it looks clunky, the torp sonar is like Mark 46 fish." His sonarman paled at the statement. "Hell, I think it is Mark 46 fish!

"Set course to three three one, then deploy a noisemaker!" The normal procedure for defeating the old Mark 46 Torpedo is to make a "knuckle" in the water by turning at rapid speed, and then deploying a noisemaker inside it. After a few seconds, Kunoichi commanded, "Kill the engines." He felt the submarine slow considerably, then finally stopped. He waited for a few minutes, then a soft boom broke the deathly silence. "Increase speed to five knots."

"Sir, I detect break-up noises at Sierra-Seven. We got her, Captain. That was very close." His sonarman said.

"How did they find us so easily?" His Executive Officer asked.

"They have already detected us far too many times already." Kunoichi softly replied. "They confirmed our sonar signature thrice before, and the fact that we are the only possible submarine contact at this position makes it even easier for them to hunt us." He concluded.

"But we will continue our mission." The Executive Officer said.

"Hai, what choice do we have?"

Chapter 6: Black-clad Gentlemen

It was a lovely sunset at Haeju. What a lovely time to rest, the North Korean guard thought. He looked at his current post with boredom. It was finally getting dark, and it was another hour before his shift ends. Ahhh, I hope Kim comes early. He saw that the waves of the ocean was dulling his senses. He grabbed his mug and slurped on the ice-cold coffee. I wonder what is dinner tonight.

All this mindless rambling ended when a 5.56mm bullet entered his brain.

****
"STARFALL COMMAND, this is KEYSTONE, and we have entered the location."

"Good," Jason said to the headphone. "Continue mission as planned."

"Roger. Moving out."

Jason looked at his KIP comrades and they looked back at him with obvious relief. Running an intelligence operation is hard enough; running a military intelligence and special operation certainly took more attention. "Men, let's keep up the good work, and let's not use our radios much." He announced.

"Yes sir." They all replied.

****
Colonel Leon walked to the guardhouse, took the guard's radio and destroyed it. He then signaled for his forces to move forward. The terrain was rocky, and they have to be both careful and stealthy if they want to survive this mission. They were all alert, their HKFN-22 Rifles held at ready.Leon eschewed the new ECA rifle for his own trusty M16; aside from being 2 pounds lighter than the Felin Rifles, it is much more accurate, at least to 200 yards. Although it has a smaller bullet, it is by far one of the most effective SpecOps weapon Leon ever handled.

As they came up on a ditch, he ordered his men to stop. The whole place was still, motionless, as if it is holding its breath. Leon suspected an ambush, or something similar. After a few minutes, the deathly silence remained. He then ordered his men to move forward. Maybe the gooks are asleep, He thought.

****

124 Nautical miles away, Hajime listened to Janus' report. All in all, so far so good. Janus concluded. So far, the team encountered no significant resistance, not even walking sentries, for that matter. Is this some sort of trap? Hajime questioned. It was far too simple, far too easy; and when the enemy makes it easy for you to do something, that usually means you are playing right into his trap.

There is something going wrong on on this operation.

I'm too tired writing much, so I'm cutting the chapter;
I'm suddenly revitalized to write.

Chapter 7: The Silence of the Lambs

Leon and his team inched closer and closer to the missile complex, their movement as silent as a snake moving across a silent forest, their eyes as alert as owls. So far, none had raised the alarm, and so, their mission went unimpeded. They cut a small part of the sheet metal wall that formed the perimeter defense of the makeshift ballistic missile facility, and went inside.

They were in for quite a surprise.

****

"Janus-san," Hajime said, "I think we are approaching a trap."

"What do you mean?" Janus asked incredulously. "Our mission is proceeding as planned. Our forces report no opposition at all-"

"That is what I fear, my friend. The most dangerous opponent is the one you cannot see."

****

Colonel Leon Siroy was shocked at what he saw.

Or rather, at what he did not see.

According to his briefing, he would've seen trucks loaded with missiles in this place. But the space before him was empty. No lights, no vehicles, no missiles to be seen.

It's as if they've visited the wrong place.

A lieutenant came next to him and whispered, "Did those intel gooks fuck up again?"

"We don't have time for that now." He replied. "We need to check this place out, and we need to do our secondary mission, if those things are here." They walked single-file under the darkness of the sun that had already set.

****

"What do you mean?" Janus replied with uncertainty.

"Think, my friend. Those NKs might be ragheaded gomers, but I'm sure they aren't that dumb to be caught with their missiles out in the open. I think that they somehow knew that our agency was going to make a sat pass, and showed us what they want us to see, and then we came to their trap like mice going for the cheese in the mouse trap!" Hajime replied with alarming paranoia.

"Why didn't you tell me these things earlier?!" Janus demanded. "If you told me that it was a trap-"

"I'm sorry, my friend." Hajime replied over the phone.

Epilogue: Flames of Hellfire

Colonel Leon Siroy was just about to attach a door-buster to the steel door of the missile complex' main building when the dark southern horizon flashed with bright light, accompanied by a thunderous yet muffled boom. "Colonel?" One of his men asked. After a few seconds, this was repeated. Now Leon knew with utmost certainty what was happening. It was a massive artillery strike.

"Men, we have to go to the extraction point, now!"

The Korean War has now been renewed.

-ACT 1 END

If anybody is interested, I could create Act 2 and possibly, Act 3.
