Hello, I'd like to talk about Phalanx Cruiser. While I like its cute design, I think it is overspecialized for a USA unit. A quick look at most USA units will make it apparent that most of them have multiple purposes. The most straightforward unit, Crusader, can be equipped with any of the three drones to get a whole new niche. Humvee can load up with infantry to accomplish the task at hand. Paladin is a good main battle tank on top of being a great protector against missiles. Raptor is really effective against anything, even buildings when in sufficient numbers. The Tomahawk doubles as a guided long range anti-tank missile.
The list goes on and on, but the point is, if USA units have something in common, it's their versatility.

That is why I don't think a purely anti-aircraft ship fits the USA.

***

Also quick question, will USA ships have drones?

I'm surprised you didn't mention the Avenger, which is the closest ground equivalent of the Phalanx cruiser. Sure you can argue that it has the laser pointer as well as point defense lasers, but it still can't hurt any ground unit on it's own, and needs to be supported, just like the Phalanx cruiser. So yeah imo, it fits in pretty well.

It can be equipped with the Hellfire Drone to turn into a quite lethal anti-tank weapon with the help of the laser. It can stay behind and scout using the Scout Drone while shooting aircraft down with its long range lasers or it can butcher infantry with a laser assisted battle drone.

There are multiple ways to use the Avenger and it is versatile.

I see mainly you think USA units are multipurpose because of dem vehicle drones. You might didn't realize that those drones are a gimmick that's not exclusive to one unit and more like addition. try to take those drones out and see what a unit can do. by your logic then you could win by just using ambulances.

anyway the phalanx is not purely anti-air as it also intercept missiles and provides wide vision range.

and because we planned to do many changes to existing stuffs (adding here, tweak this, remove that...), it's kinda invalid if you're thinking in vZH mindset.

If Ambulances have drones with weapons that shall be the first replay posted of this mod! In the meantime I'll try to do it in zh and shw

try in RotR too. because from what I already pictured, this mod will plays closer to RotR rather than to ShW or vZH.

of course it will be much different, we don't have Hellfire Drones in RotR

If you put enough Paladins together, they'll absorb the missiles from a stinger site just as well as any avenger.

And, both the ambulance and the medivac helicopter (from shockwave) can act as troop-transports.

In vanilla ZH, you can load up 3 humvees with rocket soldiers and turn them into tanks capable of killing almost anything (15 rockets will ruin anyone's day.)

Rangers can kill infantry, capture structures, and clear buildings. They can also neutralize Stinger sites with flash bangs.

The chinook doubles as a transport and a building-clearer (Combat Drop), the bulldozer can run over infantry, repair structures, remove traps and mines, and build, and Comanches can double as tank or infantry killers, with their rocket pods, anti-tank rockets, and cannon.

The raptor can kill tanks, planes, infantry, and buildings, and also function as good guards.

Auroras can wreak havoc on infantry and tanks as well as buildings, and make an effective rapid-response thanks to their supersonic attach. The Aurora Alpha is extremely effective at taking out whole groups of enemy units, and clustered enemy buildings.

Even the USA superweapon, the Particle Cannon, can function as a precision-building-destroyer, Aurora-defense (since Auroras that fly into the beam will die) a ground-defense against tank columns or clustered infantry (or units in lines), and can eliminate defensive lines and GLA holes in one go.

This doesn't change in mods.

The Shatterer is very good at killing infantry, tanks, and defenses, as it can shoot through units and walls.

The Enforcer can act as either a tank or a dragon-tank with its plasma bolt and steam settings, and can act as a rapid-response or base-penetration unit since it can teleport.

Mammoth tanks can crush vehicles and infantry, destroy buildings, and the shield makes it possible to use them as a missile-meat-shield to protect your other units.

The Lockdown can act like either a stun-missile launcher or a tank-killer. 2 lockdowns working together can kill almost anything, one stunning tanks/defenses while the other one fires HE.

Plasma Tomahawks are excellent against tanks, defenses, and infantry (since the plasma burns them to death).

Ironside's variant of Colonel Burton can act like a sniper, vehicle-sniper, or saboteur.

And I haven't even started on General Townes.

Np said that the drone thing was a "gimmick" and, without the drones, USA units weren't nearly as versatile or multi-purpose. I was providing counter-examples to illustrate that, without the drones, USA units were still just as versatile.

I included units from mods to prove that USA versatility doesn't only exist in "the vZH mindset."

1. Np said that not "all" USA units are versatile. Take the drones away from the Crusader, and it's just a tank.
2. Who said that all modders have to follow the USA versatility rule? Who says USA being versatile is a rule in the first place? What the USA is, and how they function is up to the owner of the mod.
3. Was there really a point in resurrecting such an old thread, just to get that point across?
4. Don't use the word "mods", if all your going to use are ShockWave examples. Just say ShockWave. It's not a crime tongue.gif
