Hi,
I never wrote fan-fic so please forgive me for a weird approach.
The general idea is to picture east asia after the Korean wars, with GLA cells tearing apart south-east Asia, while the new humbled Japan tries to gain the trust of some fellow asian countries.

This will gradually evolve.

Geo-political summary:

With the Koreas pacified and busy rebuilding, China powers focused on GLA resurgence in middle east plus watching its northern neighbour, while ECA, USA and Russia kept tearing each other apart in Europe.
Meanwhile, GLA leadership kept planning. Central Africa was a relatively stable stronghold centered around the dark zone, but it was clear that as soon as the european conflict would end this would change for the worse.

Many pacific states were in religious turmoil since the turn of the Century and new cells were quickly established.
With foreign support, the new GLA affiliates started a new round of "revolutionary miltias" around the pacific.
Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines were especially hit hard, with aid requests from US, their traditional ally, being answered with mostly empty promises and some moth-balled cold war era equipment.

The early fight against GLA:

While using mostly outdated equipment, GLA was less at disadvantage in the asian board.
Facing smaller armies without a strong military-industrial complex behind them, the regular armies were running out fast of advanced equipment.
Desperate for more, various states sent aid requests to all major powers.

Russia
With their military fully committed to Europe and their reserves being mobilized and put in readiness on the Chinese border, Suvorov could only offer some small energy deals to keep the equipment fueled.

China
As for much of the 21st century, China asked for territorial concessions in return for any help, this was considered but kept as last option.

ECA
With their back against the wall, all ECA could send was some 20th century training tanks and aircrafts.
While helpful, this would soon be worn out and with logistical lines being so unstable spare parts were rare.

USA
Opening another front was deemed as unacceptable by the Congress and advanced equipment was deemed too risky to send as there were fears of Chinese and GLA interception.
However, unlike Russia US had still huge inventories of cold and Gulf war era equipment in moth-balls and some was still in useable condition.
A-10s, F-117, Bradleys and M1s were already in the process of being refurbished for the US army, yet there were other models phased out from the National Guard that were jury-rigged and sent to Diego Garcia for dispatching.

This was gladly accepted and while not nearly as advanced as contemporary equipment, they could still face GLA forces at least on equal footing.

A few models were decided to be employed commonly:

M-60 MBTs, affectionally nicknamed Patton were still better than Scorpion tanks. Although slower and barely better armored they could be refit with either 120mm long range cannons or 165mm demolition guns for tunnel-busting.

M113 APCs, or "Gavins" as they were known over the Internet in the 21st century. To enhance their battle survibability the passenger compartment was reduced to 4 people while the rest was given to modular armor and weapon panels. A long-range mortar, TOW missiles or a 20MM Vulcan cannon for AA purposes were all available as upgrade to the basic model.

DPV or FAV, was chosen for fast recon. While not exceptionally equipped, they were as fast as anything GLA could field and they could easily disguise as GLA rocket buggies. Armed with a light MG they could be upgraded with a recoilless rifle for light vehicle hunting or a 40mm anti-personnel grenade launcher.

Air support was initially limited:

Kiowa helicopters were fragile but could work as long as there was no AAA. Great for unmasking GLA stealth offensives, their Machine gun could be upgraded with Stingers to repel the limited GLA air assets or rockets for heavier ground support.
Effective as long as infantry could ward off GLA stinger troopers, they suffered from high attrition rates.

Air force was a hotly debated topic.
Attack aircrafts had quite a few choices but in the end, F4 Phantom was selected as generic fighter-bomber, especially as after-market variants could offer upgrades that would make them far superior to GLA inventory.
One particular prototype upgrade was asked from an israeli company which would allow the F-4 to fly fast enough to bypass air defence for very short runs, although this was very expensive and greatly limited the payload.

While old and barely holding up in some cases, the early weapons could fight on equal footing against GLA, usually barely winning individual duels when they happened.
Still, attrition rates were dreadful and impacted troop morale, so a longer term plan was required...
