This is just brilliant...in a really, REALLY stupid kind of way. It's their website and it's solely up to them what
they put in the logo. Even though the company may be American, not everyone on the entire bloody internet is.

I think Google is just merely doing what every business does: appeal to the largest audience.

Oh Pish-aw. What Google does with it's banner is it's own business, just because they put up a jpeg that celebrated something else doesn't suddenly make them anti-american. Plenty of other places would've informed people to the fact that it was D-day, far more than the places that would've informed people that it was the 25th anniversary of the creation of Testris.

While I'm not wishing to insult any of the more sensible Americans, there are definitely quite a few Yanks who are under the illusion that their history is more important than that of every other country. For them, everyone who doesn't praise the US in every other sentence is automatically 'anti-American' which, in their book, is apparently the most evil and fiendish thing there is. It's quite sad, really, because these people are giving their oh-so-beloved country a bad name.

Yes, that interpretation was correct - however the 'death penalty' reference was also an allusion to the fact that they are practically the only Western country to still do the horrific act.

Perhaps 65th anniversary of D-day is more politically correct than 25th anniversary of Tetris but I don't see a D-Day themed google as being that attractive. Plus Google is appealing to the world on the whole and not just the US, Canada and the UK (I guess France could count too). This is just an extremist writer. That aside, I don't care about what Google does and does not parade on their banner. D-Day is known well-enough that it doesn't need such advertisement anyway. I don't see why they didn't post it up though. It seemed to be fitting with their tendency to do such things. If it was political reasons, I think their plan rather backfired.

Maybe some are taking it a bit too far, but shame on Google. They also until very recently, didn't commemorate Veterans' Day/Memorial Day either (but allowed the Red Chinese to censor the Chinese version of Google).
