Hey All,
I've recently changed my ISP and am curious to know about other people's advertised and actual speeds. I'm on with Sky Unlimited Broadband with boast a connection of 30-60Mbit/s. However, when I checked my speed I am currently operating at a pathetic 1.03Mbit/s. I'm not sure if Sky counts as Satellite or Cable Modem but it's still a poor connection. To check your actual speed go here This post has been edited by Pickysaurus: 28 Jul 2009, 20:19 -------------------- |

Just regular old ADSL here.
I'm on a 1.5mbps line and I get speeds of about 1.3+, so it's generally pretty good and very reliable. This post has been edited by Alias: 28 Jul 2009, 20:20 -------------------- |

the 100 mbit is the connections of the lan network, not your actually internet speed.

1,5 mbps is marketed, but I dont really go beyond something like 1000-1200.
Which, naturally, limits my download speed to 140 - 160 kbps, which is the dumbest thing around. -------------------- |

Advertised speed is 100 MBs-1 and speedtest puts it at about 90 MBs-1 up and down. Naturally this doesn't show in many websites or certain downloads because of the host's speeds. There's a specific network for the people with this kind of connection though, and exchange speeds are quite insane in those cases, indeed going to approaching the advertised speeds.
EDIT: oh yes, the connection type is optical fibre which is standard for social students' housing here () . This post has been edited by Chyros: 29 Jul 2009, 19:44 -------------------- TN

Since I didn't actually post mine before:
Seems to be slower than if I'm downloading via my ISPs servers (which I do more often than not). This post has been edited by Alias: 30 Jul 2009, 12:38 -------------------- |

15Mbps Connection.
But my ISP's lines being crappy and all around here the speed can go up as high as 30+ mbps to as low as 0.13 mbps -------------------- I am not normal

Lol, my internet is usually quite crappy, however sometimes i can get some quite good speed increases. My actually internet line is terrible though, which accounts for the poor internet speed, although, speed test rates it as above average:

Advertised is 1Mbps but i get about 800kbps on average. Ping is a shitty 250ms on average and tbh my biggest complaint is the 5GB cap on downloads. Which I run through very quickly between social networking, system updates and the random torrent.

I'm not sure of the advertised speed for mine, since I use my uncles, but I did the speed test, and it is way off.
My actual download is about 300-400 KBps, while the Upload is accurate. |
