Hi,
I never wrote fan-fic so please forgive me for a weird approach.
The general idea is to picture east asia after the Korean wars, with GLA cells tearing apart south-east Asia, while the new humbled Japan tries to gain the trust of some fellow asian countries.

This will gradually evolve.

Geo-political summary:

With the Koreas pacified and busy rebuilding, China powers focused on GLA resurgence in middle east plus watching its northern neighbour, while ECA, USA and Russia kept tearing each other apart in Europe.
Meanwhile, GLA leadership kept planning. Central Africa was a relatively stable stronghold centered around the dark zone, but it was clear that as soon as the european conflict would end this would change for the worse.

Many pacific states were in religious turmoil since the turn of the Century and new cells were quickly established.
With foreign support, the new GLA affiliates started a new round of "revolutionary miltias" around the pacific.
Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines were especially hit hard, with aid requests from US, their traditional ally, being answered with mostly empty promises and some moth-balled cold war era equipment.
