A "Canon Fodder" styled fan-fiction. This may or may not be as good as the others you have read before, because I am not that good in politics.

Kingdom of Sweden

Leader: Magnus Vickstrom
Capital: Stockholm
Population: 12,946,861
Active Troops: 315,105
Troops in the ECA: 57,149

Sweden has since the end of the Cold War been one of the most successful and modern countries in Europe. Although the country has had its low points, such as the Gothenburg riots or the 'Laser Man', Sweden has stood in the world as a country with a good economy, a traditional population and great social evolution. In 1995, Sweden joined the European Union which sparked many protests and riots across the country, most notably the Gothenburg riots. The anti-capitalists in the country were at some points calm and orderly, while at other points they had been violent and anarchistic. Since the Moderate party won the elections in 2006, the amount of anti-capitalists and social-democratic militants had risen. The young and opportunistic were the ones that were drawn to anti-capitalism the most, but though they were plenty; they have never actually done anything violent enough to shake the Parliament. That is, until the GLA arrived.

Swedish riot police in Stockholm, 2024

In 2019 the world saw the rise of the Global Liberation Army, an organization created to destroy the capitalist nations of Earth, as seen by the youth of Sweden. The GLA influenced thousands of people across the globe, and in Sweden, the amount of anti-capitalist protests raised more and more as the GLA advanced across Asia. In Malmo, the Muslim population's aggressiveness was at an all-time high, and the police had to work really hard to restrain them. As the internet grew larger, many people were drawn to the pro-GLA websites and engulfed themselves in propaganda people had posted. This spawned many riots across the entire country, from the southernmost provinces to the mining town of Kiruna, all of them battling for one thing only; no more capitalism. The militants proved to be quite a match for the police, and some of them were even reported to be armed with low-caliber weapons. During a violent protest in Uppsala in 2024, a riot police was forced to shoot at an armed protestor, but he missed, and the bullet killed an unarmed, peaceful protestor further away. This sparked much debate and controversy in the Swedish Parliament and on the Internet, and of course it enraged the protestors even more. Soon enough however, non-government officials started debunking the pro-GLA sites and proved them to be fake. At first, the militants didn't want to believe this, but gradually the protests diminished and soon the country was at peace again. The Muslim population in the south didn't stop protesting until a year and a half later, though. In 2026, the Social Democratic party won the elections; the first time the party had won since 1996. The party leader, Andreas Fyborg, had drawn some new policies in order to win the election, such as less consumerism, less capitalism and changed immigration policies. The most prominent act was the removal of Swedish military support in Afghanistan, who had been suffering many losses to GLA terrorists. It seemed as Sweden was headed to a better future, but unfortunately two years later, the insurrection began.

Because of the riots, the Swedish Army reintroduced several old tanks, such as the S-Tank, into the Home Guard

In 2025, the Global Liberation Army captured the Baikonur Cosmodrome and launched a chemical warhead against Narvik the next year. The chemicals spread south into Sweden, and killed many people. In Luleå, the streets were filled with poisoned people and the hospitals were clogged. Sweden was unable to provide support for the American forces in Kazakhstan, because they were too busy in Afghanistan. The GLA's leader, Deathstrike as he was known, started appearing on television screens all across Europe. At first it was believed the protests would start again because of him, but they didn't, which surprised the police. Later, in 2028, GLA forces invaded Hamburg and started the GLA Insurrection of 2028. The insurrection was held in Germany for the first couple of months, but it gradually spread to northern Europe. The streets of Sweden filled with people, both with those supporting the GLA and those who fight against them. However, when the actual GLA made landfall in Sweden, both groups turned against them. While the regular Swedish military fought the GLA in the countryside, the cities filled with guerillas fighting guerillas. The GLA were better equipped, but the population of Sweden had both the numbers and the patriotism. Many believed the GLA would turn away and retreat, but the situation worsened when the GLA deployed chemical weapons to the main urban settlements. In Gothenburg, nearly 3,000 people died because of the chemical weapons, and in Stockholm, a Scud missile hit the Royal Palace, nearly killing the king. As the weeks progressed, Sweden started to push the GLA back, and by the end of the year, the Insurrection had ended. This Insurrection caused Sweden to be more aware and boost its army. One and a half decades later it would prove useful.

Even though the Insurrection had reached Sweden, the cities and roads managed to survive with minimal damage. However, the farms and countryside had taken the full force of the Insurrection. Large agricultural zones became swats of dead land. If it wasn't for the Norwegian's providing Sweden with seeds needed to restart the crops, the farmers market would completely disappear, similar to the Industrial Revolution. As Anders Fyborg promised more nation-altering policies and delivered, he received more voters. In2034, the European Continental Alliance was formed and Sweden joined hastily. As people saw the ECA as not another EU, but a new alliance to restore Europe to its glory days, the amount of anti-capitalists diminished drastically. When the ECA initiated Operation 'Nemesis', Sweden provided air support much like they did during the Congo Crisis and the Libyan Revolution. The next-generation fighter jet JAS-40 'Dragon II' proved to be a very resilient fighter/bomber, and sold well throughout the world. Other vehicles such as Volvo's excellent excavators and Hägglunds' Lynx armored personnel carrier even became standard issue among the ECA. This helped rebuild Sweden's economy, and companies like Bofors and SAAB prospered. Later the same decade, the new Solaris satellites started appearing in orbit. Solar plants were built across Europe, and the solar plant Valhalla, built near Trondheim, Norway, provided power for the entire Scandinavian Peninsula, including Finland. Although this was a Sweden's primary power source, they still operated many hydroelectric dams and wind farms across the country.

The doing of the Solaris satellites would also help Russia gear up for war. In 2045, ECA commandos supposedly sabotaged a missile base in Kaliningrad, giving Russia a casus belli against the ECA. Bombers swept over Scandinavia and destroyed nearly every airbase operated by the Swedish Air Force. Hours later, the Russian Army began marching into Finland and made landfall in northern Norway. The Swedish Army mobilized north, but it was too late as the Russians entered northern Sweden. The Swedes put up a strong defense and caused many losses to the Russians, but it was not enough. Russian marines also landed in Stockholm, and within hours they had taken the Royal Palace, the Parliament and the Supreme Court. Guerilla fighters spawned in occupied cities and proved to be a very big threat to the Russians, especially when a fuel depot was destroyed by a couple of teenagers. The war proved costly to the cities of Sweden as great buildings like the Oresund Bridge and the Globe Arena were destroyed. In 2048, the remaining fighting company of Sweden's army was overrun in Uddevalla. The company's leader, Samuel Lysell, went underground and assumed position as the leader of the resistance movement. However, the population gradually started accepting the Russian occupiers.

Now, the Swedes witness the Russian tricolor flying in every city, but on the radio they here that the ECA have more and more victories, and the US have come to help. The resistance is gearing up for a destructive blow against the Russians.

This fan-fiction about Sweden may have been a little bit shorter than others, but it was the best I could do. Sue me!

I've already told you that I liked it. Seems like an overall appropriate backstory and I like how Sweden's trademark liberalism didn't get absolutely smashed by reactionaries after the insurrection. Nice work.
