What detects stealth, and what merely scouts? A list for new folks and for me., Would love input and I think I may be missing some things.

So I get a little confused about how to detect stealth sometimes, and it has bitten me in the butt more than once. Often this is due to my misunderstanding of the basic mechanic, or due to changes from VZH or from SHW. Either way, my plan is to create a list (below) and edit it as people correct my misunderstandings. This is mostly for me (because I think I am missing some things) and partially for new players. Would appreciate help!

Note that I have divided each faction into "stealth detection" and "scouting but NOT stealth detection," since I've made the mistake in the past of thinking that some units that are merely scouts actually detect stealth (Pathfinders and signal intercepts are two examples of this dry.gif ).

1A. GLA Stealth Detection

Note: I know that almost any unit can be used for scouting, and that many other offensive general's powers can be used for map reveal; I am listing the things here that are often used primarily for stealth detection or for scouting IMO. But I bet I've made mistakes, and hope to learn from y'all!

Also note that I tried to learn this info off of the wiki, but did not have much luck.

Is there a general rule on what defensive buildings detect stealth? If I'm not mistaken, the dushka DOES but USA's firebase DOESN'T...
The same for air-defenses... Patriot/Gatling can detect stealthfighters, can the skyshield?

Maybe you could add buildings to your list as well, you know, for new folks and for me^^

Hi Melaw!

So, I am almost totally sure that you are wrong about patriot, dushka, and Gatling. In ROTR as far as I know, they DO NOT detect stealth. If you are switching over from ZH or other mods (like I was) you can certainly get confused (like I did). Just thinking about it, the only factions that have stealth detecting base defenses AFAIK are RUS and ECA, but that is just off the top of my head.

Hopefully someone else can chime in and confirm/deny this (and your comment), since I won't have time to check it out until the weekend.

I think builder units (Dozers/Workers) can spot mines and hidden demos at short range.

Thanks for your reply... I did in fact not check those up explicitly.
But I have a vague guess that my stealthed units got detected near enemy stationary defenses.
On the other side I have experienced extrem havoc by stealth units inside my own base despite having some defenses around.

I also think I have seen a Dozer clearing up mines without detection units around.

Maybe this is just out of confusion or having played ZH a lot, but maybe some1 could run a quick test or already knows more about this matter.

(But I totally like the way ROTR changes the meaning of stealth in general)

More like, all units that can remove mines are capable of spotting them.


base defenses do not detect stealth units, with exception of one of Russia's air raid tower, and ECA's Guard tower in scanning mode.

Hi knjaz! I should have made it as clear as you did when I said only eca and russia had detector base defense.

Melaw - if you look at the big list you will see that it does actually have buildings on it already; its just that there are very few detector or scouting buildings. Both the buildings knjaz mentions are on the list.

I'm not sure I should add dozers to the list but maybe at the end as a note?
