Does anyone have any good ideas on how to reinvent the FPS genre? Like some really good, neat and exciting idea that would really feel fresh and news! Maybe something you haven't seen in an FPS for a long time, or something completely new you've never seen before? Maybe a combination of different features from seperate games, like Shovel Knight?

Perhaps taking some clues from other genres, always a nice touch when it has a other major element (and something that COD has only few of, like the small RTS section
FPS on their own are too much boring, no matter how fun they are... One cool thing would be a egoshooter where your weapons would be either speaking, or one where you can adjust the rifle both physically and how you use it itself midgame, not customize i mean but you could hold it how you like, similar in that Jurrasic park game. Like a kinect game but with a far superior control of the gun, as if you would hold it in reality, you could even throw it to damage enemies, open doors with it, lay traps with its magazines or modify it on place, but the modification would be also different, not just adding or removing a scope or sight, but als removing its part forcibly or duct taping some other things. But no real customisation, because that would make it too multiplayer like. I can not explain it with words or pictures that well enough tough... |

I guess the most important factor here is: SP or MP? In SP I'd say innovation is absolutely necessary. It's hard to say what exactly is needed, but something new and refreshing would be awesome. Personally I'd like to see a open world FPS/RPG hybrid game (like Fallout 3 or Stalker) but with more focus on the shooter part, with stuff like weapon customisation. Maybe similar to Far Cry 3 but with great improvements in the game-world (quests, NPCs, etc.) As for MP, I'd prefer a back-to-the-roots type of game. If you look at currently popular FPS game series (Battlefield, CoD, Counter-Strike) and how they started, I don't really see much improvements anyway. I'd really like to see these games focus on their core gameplay values, maybe add some comfort features from newer games and up to date graphics and sound. Instead of adding new gadgets (that don't really make a difference anyway) every years they should finally focus on important aspects like anti-cheat, netcode/servers. I'd like to see a game for once that is not made to be trashed and replaced after a year... I know, that won't happen :-/ |

An FPS with focus on SP not MP, an actually emotional story that will break you, move you, make you feel it. not just another gun n run fps.

I've never had more fun in an FPS since UT99, so I would like nothing more than a return to the oldschool twitch mechanics of UT99 and Quake 3.
Nexuiz was a good attempt, but it never had a big player base and since the THQ nonsense the game just disappeared off the face of the earth. The last good game of the formula that had an audience was UT2k4. -------------------- |

And given the evolution of games - especially rts/rpg ones in the past decade the most innovative thing i can think of is - please release the whole fken game you piece of shit money hungry assholes - instead of releasing 75% of it for full price and then making us pay another 10-15$ for the remaining 25% as day 1 DLC. At this point complete games are the most awsome feature i can think of. This post has been edited by Anubis: 9 Nov 2014, 17:02 |

I still miss this genre, this was the cool stuff. -------------------- AS Discord server: https://discord.gg/7aM7Hm2 | SWR Community Discord https://discord.gg/REcbv37 QUOTE ComradeCrimson: AS is the product of Hungarian acid ComradeCrimson: And magical hussars Dutchygamer: and Weird Al. I say FPS games in the future should be more closer to reality and difficult than it was today, and balances both singleplayer and multiplayer aspects well.
The conceptual (only its design data drafts) MMOFPS game I currently made today was a hopeful example of such idea. |

IMO we need less CoDs, Battlefields and ARMAs and more CnC Renegades, Quakes and Half Lives.
CnC Renegade with destructible environments and aiming down sights, that would be perfect. And Nanosuits. Because Nanosuits. This post has been edited by Sargeant Rho: 6 Mar 2015, 17:06 -------------------- |

most of the non MMS are niche productions, you get something like borderlands, which is stupid imo, that takes the dullest element from RPG and transplanted in a FPS. to make another style mainstream is rather difficult at the time being, and MMS isn't didn't have to change the formula since everyone is still buying it. if we all not buy subgenre for a while, maybe they'll put out new stuff.

Play against super advanced soldiers with tried and true older tech, traps, deceit, and all that shit.
I'm sick of being SEAL Team Six and with 'MURICA. Give me Taliban, Vietcong, Donbass separatists, central American guerrillas, just something not mainstream. Also, stop playing as the good guys, period. Let me be Koreans, Chinese, Russians, Mexicans, European, whatever. I want tactical FPSes where every decision should count. Throw some realism in there, mix it all up. -------------------- Your feeling of helplessness is your best friend, savage.

Bah, UT4 is coming. As F2P. With Michiel van der Bos, the orig UT OST composer. And with a really open development process. All you have to do is to get UE4 access and you can compile the thing already.
Get your realistic shitty FPS mockeries and flush them down in the toilet. Withness the perfection of what The Alpha and the Omega brings back. -------------------- AS Discord server: https://discord.gg/7aM7Hm2 | SWR Community Discord https://discord.gg/REcbv37 QUOTE ComradeCrimson: AS is the product of Hungarian acid ComradeCrimson: And magical hussars Dutchygamer: and Weird Al.
