Description
The point of the NLS Modelling Contest is to have fun and introduce a bit of friendly competition that allows us to train our new members as well as keep us old farts from becoming too rusty in modelling / texturing.
We are planning to introduce different rules and themes for each contest to make it even more enjoyable and useful experience for everybody involved.
That said - the style is in no way tied to SAGE low poly models and textures. For our first contest we went with a specific object to model within a certain polycount limit without textures at all. The themes are going to be broader and are discussed with everyone taking part in the contest. We are also thinking about using more broader themes so each contestant can model a different thing as long as it meets certain criteria of the current theme.

The system which we use to judge our works is still new at the moment, but I can say that we're mostly looking at accuracy and the way each model is constructed under the hood. The final render counts as well.
Upon entering the contest, each person is presented with all the rules, and then works on the model. Obviously you cannot post your work during the time of the contest anywhere other contestants can see it. The end date specified in the contest rules is the last day each contestant can send in their work. After that day (we don't mind timezones at all, if it's still last day for you - you can still send it in) you have to pack your stuff - model in certain formats as well as the final render - and send it to the judges or a person coordinating the current contest. It's also welcome to upload the model to sketchfab so that everyone can inspect it the same way without messing around and importing the model to their 3D software (As some of us use different 3D programs). At this point you can also freely post your render and discuss the work of other contestants as well.

Currently the podium is symbolic and there are no real prizes.
We are however considering some small prizes like special roles on discord servers and even some cheap game / or even money prize at some point (Not thousands of dollars obviously, something along 10$) - this would need a proper discussion and a brain storm so that it would work properly.

If you'd like to join us or simply have questions or suggestions, feel free to contact me via PM or reply to this thread.
You don't have to be a great modeller or texturer - the point is to have fun and learn a thing or two from examining each others work.
Informations about upcoming contests will be added to this post.
