SWR Productions Forum _ News Forum _ ShockWave 0.96 June update

Posted by: Stinger 7 Jun 2009, 1:39

Hello ShockWave fans,

The wait is almost over, and to ease the time in between we are taking the wraps off of two new model improvements you can expect to see in the forthcoming release. So without further ado we present to you the new F-22 Raptor which will be replacing the EA model used by the base USA faction, Laser and Superweapon Generals.

The new Raptor model boasts many refinements that bring it closer to its real life counterpart, such as a larger cockpit area and undulating sections of the body. Statswise we have decreased the build time on the Raptor to address redundancy and make it a more viable option in online games so we expect you will be seeing a lot more of them in the future.

Next up we have the new Nuke Cannon model, exclusive to General Tao.

This new model packs a much larger variant of the original cannon and features several nuances in the cabin area and rear sections. Most notable is that the General's version uses two extra supporting weights to hold the vehicle in place before it fires. The additional weights further reduce shake and ensure the Nuke Cannon can deliver its payload with even deadlier accuracy, and an even larger blast.

QUOTE
Remember, General, don't look directly at the blast.

We think this quote is apt. tongue.gif

So that's it for this update, folks - we hope you liked it. We can assure the wait for 0.96 will be worth it so stay tuned as we have more news and updates for you right around the corner. wink.gif

Stinger, out.

Posted by: Lord Atlantis 7 Jun 2009, 2:11

You know, if you are giving this much love to EVERY model in the game, I can't wait to see what you have done for the whole game. smile.gif

Posted by: Admiral FCS 7 Jun 2009, 2:13

Awesome as always, nicely done!

I'm especially fond of the Raptor, not too RL-ish while not too cartoony. Nice!

Posted by: MR.Kim 7 Jun 2009, 2:16

That's pretty awesome. I8.gif

Much better than original EA's models. 8I.gif

I thought Shockwave was not about Realism?...

Sorry, I couldn't resist that.

Seriously though, Great job on them, especially that nuke XDDD

Can't wait for realease.

Posted by: Lord Atlantis 7 Jun 2009, 2:28

It is about realism to a certain extent. Designing units that COULD be seen in real life they look that convincing. wink.gif

Posted by: mbob61 7 Jun 2009, 3:09

That raptor is rather boring in my opinion.
With the nuke cannon, although the front isn't so attractive, overall the model is an improvement.

Posted by: DerKrieger 7 Jun 2009, 3:30

Nice! The F-22 model is a subtle, but very cool improvement. Same with the Nuke Cannon. I assume the King Raptor will receive a similar overhaul soon (prob. same model, diff. skin)?

Posted by: Beef 7 Jun 2009, 3:39

I seem to have seen those before tongue.gif
I know the awesomeness of the Nuke Cannon first hand though. Be warned.

Posted by: Thorazine 7 Jun 2009, 3:47

Yay, *generic comments*.

Posted by: SgtRho 7 Jun 2009, 3:51

Looks good. But, lol @ the mirrored text on the tail of the Raptor tongue.gif

I was just going to say this XD.gif . Both models look great, though biggrin.gif .

Posted by: WNxMastrefubu 7 Jun 2009, 4:23

amazing detail gr8 job!

Posted by: CommanderJB 7 Jun 2009, 6:29

The F-22 is a definite increase in the looks of the original model, but the mirrored text seriously detracts from its quality IMO. It's the Nuke Cannon that really makes this update; it is now a threatening monster and woe betide you if you get in its way!

Posted by: Alias 7 Jun 2009, 7:02

Very nice enhancements, Hunter. smile.gif

As the raptor is an aircraft, it's usually going to be moving too fast for you to care about the mirrored text anyway. I'm sure if you never saw the render you wouldn't notice it at all ingame.

Posted by: Ascendancy 7 Jun 2009, 7:44

I've been waiting for the new Tao-specific Nuke Cannon for quite some time. It looks very awesome. As for the Raptor, I don't really use it a lot (because I'm normally Ironside, and even then aircraft aren't a viable choice for him, unless absolutely necessary -- Black Widows can be quite useful, though), but the update also looks good.

Surely the same logic could be applied to any enhancement of the aircraft?

Posted by: Papaya Master Rai 7 Jun 2009, 8:46

Those are all great works, I like the remodelling very much. smile.gif

Posted by: Erik 7 Jun 2009, 11:52

Nice work on the raptor, i always found EAs one boring. The advanced nuke cannon is pretty cool also.

Posted by: Ektufall 7 Jun 2009, 12:47

Nice to see that Tao's Nuke is rolling out at last ! smile.gif

Posted by: katmoda12 7 Jun 2009, 13:17

I'd like to ask about the nuke cannon (as you may know from FS forum, my favourite unit in shw).
What does it means in term of gameplay more accurate? The nuke cannon has never been accurate for its AoE, i fail to understand.
the added weight does also mean that will deploy in less time?
Or does it mean that will stop to deploy and undeploy in guard mode?

Impressive update anyway.

Thank you for giving us so much sweetness av-7.gif av-7.gif

Posted by: Dutchygamer 7 Jun 2009, 13:44

I would swear I've seen that Nuke Cannon before 8Ip.png

Posted by: Crazykenny 7 Jun 2009, 15:18

Looking good biggrin.gif Nice remodels.

Posted by: Shock 7 Jun 2009, 16:28

This will give a whole new fearsome dimension to Tao's nuke cannon spam in the hard challenge, really tongue.gif

I like the raptor too, nice and sleek, looks like an improvement on every scale.

Posted by: Mcbob 7 Jun 2009, 18:08

The nuke cannon appears to resemble the old concept art EA did for the nuke cannon.

If I could only find it. I indeed had 6 deploy pylons.

You know your Generals history.

Tao's new Nuke Cannon is in fact based off of that concept. smile.gif

Posted by: Zeke 7 Jun 2009, 19:11

another day another ZOMG shockwave update

nice stuff smile.gif

Posted by: Destiny 7 Jun 2009, 19:28

Now why is the tail number mirrored? tongue.gif

(And again...my first post in the new forum...in Shockwave. Did that in Fallout, too.)

Posted by: Chicken 7 Jun 2009, 20:34

Wow, I thought for sure the mod was dead.

And then this happens. Yay.

Posted by: Stinger 7 Jun 2009, 20:50

It was never dead or even dying for that matter. Mod development isn't always something we can show you in a new media render. Take for instance that during the course of this development time we now have working AI for Leang, Deathstrike and Ironside in the upcoming version. smile.gif

Posted by: Dutchygamer 7 Jun 2009, 21:54

Working AI? WOHOO!

Posted by: DerKrieger 7 Jun 2009, 22:14

AI for the new generals? biggrin.gif

It's quite a competent AI too - courtesy of JJ's great work wink.gif .

Posted by: Lord Atlantis 7 Jun 2009, 23:02

Have the other 12 AI's been refined to match the high standards that JJ has set for the new Generals?

I am really excited for the upcoming release! Keep the updates coming!

Posted by: SgtRho 8 Jun 2009, 1:31

So, the AI now actually rebuilds? =o

Posted by: Comr4de 8 Jun 2009, 2:13

It should I8.gif

Posted by: Chicken 8 Jun 2009, 2:18

For the past couple of months I have been switching back and forth between ShockWave and ROTR. I even bought a legit copy of C&C Generals so I could play it offline. Can't wait for the new release.

Posted by: Anubis 8 Jun 2009, 20:05

The raptor could use a few more details on the skin. The cockpit would also look alot better if it was less dark and with some reflective effect. The nuke cannon ... i was expecting something heavyer, not just another set of legs. But they bouth look alot better then the current version. I'm really glad to hear that there is an AI for the 3 new generals.
Btw will the new raptor be integrated in rotr as well, or will that one be replaced with something ... different ?

That's off topic and against our policy of releasing information outside of media updates. You'll just have to wait and see. aw2.gif

Posted by: Rorschach 10 Jun 2009, 9:31

Congrats on showing the world you are still at work. To be honest, the update is a bit unimpressive compared with some we've seen in the past, but that's a non-issue. I am glad to see that the presumed hiatus is over.

I'm impressed. Didn't we used to have a hardcoded limit of 12 AI's? How'd you get around that?

Most sources confirm that Shockwave is indeed bugged to deliver about, roughly, perhaps, almost half the listed duration. Has anyone gone further than this guessed at value and actually got some real numbers?
