Hello, I was thinking for some time, why there are not so many standalone mods for old games,
while I'm aware of obvious reasons such as copyright and more work for developers I would like to hear you guys, I mean if there's anyone left in this forum lol?

First big mod that I've seen go standalone and that made me think why not more people went same route was Project Reality for Battlefield 2.
Was it 2013 or something when EA announced they will stop supporting bunch of their old games, such as BF2... And Gen/ZH.
Since Battlefield 2 became abandonware, PR devs went and made it standalone.
It was massive relief to me personally, because each time I was installing PR I had to find my disc, install game, patch it to 1.41,
download massive 1.50 patch, download and install massive PR installation file, download PR levels, and then patch all of that to current version.
Story with Gen/ZH is pretty similar.

While I got used to process, over the years I've tried to get people into mods that I've been playing,
and while some people would show interest, and like how mods, such as ShockWave and ROTR look like,
moment I start explaining to them what they'll need and how and in what order to install it, they lose me.
People usually say, like, I'll check it out one day, polite way of saying that they've lost interest lol.

While I've never seen standalone mods for ZH, I've seen couple for some different C&C games,
such as Renegade, I've played A Path Beyond, it's pretty neat conversion.

I personally think that standalone mods for abandonware are great idea, they make life easier.
I can't be the only one that doesn't even play vanilla game when installs certain mod?

Also, disclaimer, while, yes, I would wish for ROTR to be standalone, that's no secret,
this is not request nor plea nor anything, I would like to hear people who share my opinion
and ones that think it's bad idea.
Yes, we just got first update in half a decade, so something this huge probably won't go through,
at least not in official form, but I had this on my mind for years now, so I thought I had to ask one day.

EDIT: Also, I've realized how ROTR and SW gave so many cool memories,
yet I've never donated, not even symbolic sum,
well I was broke most of time back then,
and still... Is donations button still functional?

I see... But, they sell it as a part of C&C collection, that means Renegade is included. So does that means that guys from W3D that made several stand alone Renegade mods just decided to risk it?
