I've searched the entire forum/board but I couldn't find any option/s to delete or deactivate our own account which is a must for a discussion board or a forum. What amI supposed to do if I wish to delete or deactivate my account at any point of time on this forum? Could the moderators / admins help me out in this case, please?

Not going anywhere soon. Only looking forward to know my options smile.gif A forum should have a delete or a deactivation option else what is the security of things that you share over here including your personal details? Registered users are okay (not always) but you also know the guest users can see each and every post which is posted here, I reckon.

Hi
Probably you are good in doing that or possibly the best. I'm definitely not and I'd like to delete my account first, my settings, my information, before I feel the need to leave and never come back. Or perhaps if the moderators here, ban me without a notice or a warning for something or some rule which I did not commit or did not break respectively, then they will have my information without my permission and I know where I have to go get the justice done.

Besides, no offence meant to anyone but always have those children around me (where I live - either of the two Countries) who in their sweet 16s distributing their advice to other people most of the time wink.gif I do respect quite a few people here though and they deserve it. Always remember, it is a small world! Literacy comes with grades, maturity does not.

take care.

If you're afraid of people getting your personal info, then don't put it anywhere online. SWR won't show anything you want to remain private by virtue of privacy settings, like any proper forum should.

If you want to secure your information why did you put it online in the first place?
In my internet experience i never deleted my account.
And btw you can set everything as private.

No no ... you all are getting me wrong. I'm not afraid putting my private data online. I really do want to share it with you all good people. I'm only afraid that the users or guests who cannot be tracked are getting my information.

Also, most importantly, I was on ROTR facebook group, where they deleted me (infact banned me) without a single notice or a warning for doing something which broke a rule like posting a humor photo which was related to gaming but not rotr. So I kind of do not want take any risks again. If at all the same thing happens here, this forum will have my information without my permission because if they ban me without a notice or a warning for something or some rule which I did not commit or did not break respectively, I wouldn't get a chance to delete my information first. So in these cases, I look forward to know if there is a delete account option available to a user, such as other forums have for their users.

On most forums banning means you can only read(and not post anything) without limiting you in any other way.

Just a random modder trying to give a helping hand.

Okay.

For starters: You granted the permission to some of your personal data when you registered, all forum software's default Terms and Conditions certainly list that. If you get banned because of reasons, then retracting that permission is nonsense and that's not how stuff works.

For your FUD: data mining through forums are relatively uncommon. And it's really unlikely to end up having an issue from that. I actually speak this from experience - one would really need to hammer a toe to get into such issues you fear there from. And even if you do, the data you share on forum profiles will be irrelevant compared to the data you share on Facebook and co. and this latter will be utilized.

That and you picked quite a generic username which is also a good protection. Different avatars/usernames/whatnot increases the defense.

TBH with a generic email address only used for forum registering, a generic username which you don't list on Facebook and co. and a generic avatar not picked from your FB pics, you'll be fine.

thanks buddy for the whole idea and clarification of stuff related to user information falling into wrong hands due to the board's faults either ways.

However,
QUOTE

If I get banned for reasons where I'm at fault then I'm fine with it and I stand in no position to demand or request any changes to the information I shared with everyone on the board! I accept that promptly. BUT, if I get banned (without any notice or a warning AND/OR for the reason which is not listed in the FORUM RULES) for something which I did not commit, and without giving me a second chance if the moderators bans me, as it happened in my case with the facebook group, then my information and my settings (or whatever it may be like my signatures or avatars or photos or posts) are being shared on the board without my permission (Don't know how to put it in different or more precise words). Hence my above statement because I do not want to take any risks.

Albeit, initially, it was and is just a simple question. Is there an option or what is the process to delete or deactivate a user account for this forum? why get into all the other things and cast aside the main question/concern? smile.gif

You're a bit paranoid. We don't ban people without reason and most certainly not on the first time of rule violation. We do encourage (and if required, enforce) reading and understanding the rules we set for the sake of things going smoothly and granting as many people as possible an enjoyable experience. That however does not and will never mean banning and/or bullying people randomly, nor tolerating it. Such a behaviour will get a person's rights retracted for a while at the very least.

Teal Deer: if you follow the rules and behave in a friendly manner, everything will be just fine.

Well, have never told anyone here about my profession and qualifications. I'm a Java Certified Developer and an MCSD. In my college years we used to hack our friend's basic email services like yahoo & hotmail for fun. For 3 years I've been into ethical hacking for a multinational company. It was a decade back when I was in my 30s. I also used to be a member of milw0rm and while at work we used Back Orifice to boost our work. So, if it comes to hacking, I would probably the first one to do it to you without you even knowing what the hell happened!
