Hey, can someone, ANYONE plz help me with something? The issue im having is that my Shockwave mod for C&C Generals ZH all of a sudden is giving me an error message ive never seen before when ive previously played the mod, and what happens is whenever i try to start the mod up, i click the start tab, and it gives me an error message stating, quote "Need to ensure that i have DirectX 8.1 or higher on my PC, and to be sure ive got a video card that supports the minimun game requirments" And i go FFS? I checked my dierctx, and its currently DirectX 11, and my video card is a nVidia GeForce 8600 M G, and ive got 6 gigs of ram to boot. On top of all of that, ive also played this mod hundreds od times before on this PC and never had an issue. I uninstalled and re-installed the game, and the most recent patch for the mod, went to windows and re-installed DirectX 11 just to sure, and performed an ass-load of diagnostics on the video drivers, and the mod still gives me the same message. I have tried playing C&C Generals ZH by it self just to ensure that it was not a corrupted game file or something, and it worked just fine, its just that mod that is giving me such a headache. I would really hate to have to resort to never playing that mod again just because of this small problem, so if anyone at all can shine some light on the issue, i would be extremely grateful, thanks.

You may probably have something that got corrupted (I think, maybe not). Also, does your other games installed in your comp work fine? Try to use CCleaner and use it clean your trash files and registry in your computer.

I am not entirely sure anymore, but perhaps it is a problem with the "options.ini" (C/User/"username"/documents/C&C Generals Zero Hour Data) having corrupt values? Try deleting it and start the game again (it is supposed to create a new file then).

Guess 2 is updating the video card driver.

I have had this same problem before when I installed empire at war. My shockwave and rotr gave me the same problem. Idk the exact cause but uninstalling that other game seemed to fix it. Then later on I ended up reinstalling both generals and empire at war and they both worked. Its unexplainable rly but other games u mightve installed recently might be the problem. Maybe something that generals looks for in directX gets edited when some other game is installed and messes it up is my guess.

Have you completely uninstalled? CnCZH files are leftover in your my documents, even after uninstalling. Make sure that is deleted as well, corrupt files in there can stop the game.

Standard procedure when encountering such problems is to go for a complete reinstall of Zero Hour. Also remove the folders in the Program Files folder before installing again. It is also always a good idea to keep the downloaded .rar from Shockwave somewhere in your PC so you do not need to redownload it.

I think someone should make a guide or something so we don't continually get these posts :/ That way we'd have a lot less problems and more people playing smile.gif

You need to run CCleaner after you've fully uninstalled it, then, i would redownload the ShW install and patch, and then install Generals and ZH, patch it, then install using the redownloaded install files.

I think those DirectX-related issues might be caused by your system settings (I'm not sure). Unless you're a pro and have nerves in fiddling with advanced system settings, you should leave those matters alone first (and/or find a friend or someone that's skilled on that).

NOW there are TWO posts- 1 in General Chat, and 1 in the ShockWave forums.

Hello, comrades.
Before I start, I must ask one question: how do you think battles are won? If you answered "It just take a lot of men", then I may suggest you to leave the academy. Why will I say that? It is because battles are not won just by simply shooting down your enemies: it also takes emotions to fight a battle. Hope, courage, pride, honor, love: these are the main emotions that it takes to win a battle. Yes, your equipment, your skills, and your genetics are very important, but it all boils down to one thing: Do you have the WILL to fight?
Class is dismissed.
WARNING: Watching this may result in losing your manliness.

Yep: I'm a rusty sword. VERY rusty. :/

I once had the exact same error because of a wrong resolution setting.
You could try my launcher- script (attached):
It determines your maximum screen resolution and overrides the options.ini- file via cmd-line arguments (trying it would at least eliminate a possible problem).

Just extract it into your Zero- Hour directory, and create a shortcut to launcher.exe (you can put it either directly to where generals.exe is, or in an immediate subfolder).

No start units and quickstart are both on, by default.
It's a Lua- script, you could adapt it to any other mod with minimum effort (by modifying script.lua, it's pretty readable).
There's also no annoying black console- window anymore smile.gif

If you don't trust executables from strangers (and you shouldn't), you can always look at the sourcecode and compile it on your own wink.gif
