USS DAEDELUS - ARCTIC SEA

Petty Officer Third Class Edwards and First Class Roberts entered the bridge on the USS Daedelus. Edwards looked around with astonishment, looking at all the high-tech computers and screens on the bridge. He couldn't believe he actually was aboard the bridge on the Daedelus."Ah, there you are" Captain Rolland said as the two approached the command table. "Please follow me down here to our discussion room" Rolland said as he signaled the men to follow him. The three climbed down a ladder and entered a small room with a few technological assets about, as well as one engineer. "You please leave us" Rolland ordered the engineer. As the engineer exited the room Rolland's face got more serious. "Hello, gentlemen" Rolland said to Edwards and Roberts. "So what brings us here?" Roberts asked Rolland. "Well, I want you two on a little special assignment here on the Daedelus, completely void of military actions" Rolland said. "You see, I want you to enter Admiral Carnaby's personal cabin and get some information for me" Rolland said as he rested himself on the small table in front of him. "What kind of info?" Edwards asked. "Evidence" Rolland said. "Evidence for what, exactly?" Roberts replied. "Well, it's a little bit complicated, so let me give you some background information on me and Carnaby" Rolland said as he started pacing back and forth.

"This is a little difficult to explain, so let me get straight to the point. Carnaby and I are working for the Russians." Edwards and Roberts backed a little. "The Russians? You're spies!" Roberts said as he clutched his service pistol, but didn't pull it. "No, no, no, Carnaby is the spy!" Rolland said waving his hands. "I, am a double agent working for the CIA, however I have gotten the belief that Carnaby's service for the Russians are done." Rolland said as his face got extremely serious. "How so?" Edwards asked. "Well, haven't you noticed how the Daedelus is all alone just about fifty miles from the Russian coast? He wants the Russians to destroy the Daedelus." Edwards froze. He didn't want the Daedelus to be destroyed, the ship he has loved since he was ten. "What do you want us to do?" Edwards asked being very serious. "I want you to find evidence that suggests Carnaby is working for the Russians." Rolland said. "I don't have enough, but I am sure you can find something in his cabin. We officers need to be on the deck, and seen down in the cabins might spark some confusion among the crew" Roberts asked: "What kind of info could we get?" "Well, there might be Russian e-mails in his personal inbox, on his computer. Put them on this USB drive" Rolland gave them a USB drive. "Then get that back to me. I want you do this tomorrow, because Carnaby is already in his cabin asleep, and he is awoken pretty damn easily"

The very next day, Edwards and Roberts were down in the personal quarters of the higher-ranking officers, and they were headed for Carnaby's room. "Let's see now, it was down right... left and then right again... followed by three doors forward, it should be to the very left of us" Roberts said as he looked on the small map Rolland gave them. "That's a storage closet" Edwards said. "Woops, I held the map upside down!" Roberts said as he flipped the map. "Here it is!" The duo used the key Rolland gave them earlier to unlock the steel door. The room was filled whit all sorts of things; a big bed, a fridge, a TV and a desk with a laptop on it. "Wow, this place makes the barracks look like a back alley" Edwards said. "There is a computer, we should access it" Roberts said as he sat down in front of the laptop. "Carnaby might hold some things that can prove he's working with the Russians on it" Roberts turned on the computer, and as easy does it there was no password. "Well that's one obstacle crossed out" Edwards said as he leaned over Roberts. Roberts accessed Carnaby's personal inbox, and examined the letters. "Now, what would a Russian name his mail, hmm?" "Maybe in Russian?" Edwards said as he pointed at a letter marked with Cyrillic symbols. "Well, that is obvious" Roberts opened the already read e-mail. The letter contained a document with only Cyrillic symbols. "What does it say?" Edwards asked. "I've got the foggiest but I'm damn sure it's Russian" Roberts replied. "You've got the USB?" Edwards checked his pockets. Then he froze. "Damn it..." Roberts put his palm on his face. "Edwards... first the screwdriver, then the duct tape and now this? Learn to remember, will you?" Roberts shook his head. "Well can't we send the letter to the CIA?" Edwards asked. "Well, I suppose we could, they probably can decrypt this mumbo-jumbo" Roberts said as he typed in the address for the Pentagon. "And send! All done" The two got up and exited the room, leaving all stuff in its original place and locking the door.

A tad later, Edwards and Roberts met with Rolland in the mess. "So, how'd it go?" Rolland asked. "Well, sort of okay" Edwards replied. "What do you mean, 'sort of okay'?" "You see, sir, we found evidence, but we had to send it to the Pentagon since a little someone forgot the damn USB" Roberts said as he stared at Edwards. "Oh well, better than finding no evidence at all, ain't it?" Rolland said with a smile. "Come on boys, let's go and apprehend Carnaby for treason, put him in the brig and wait for the prisoner transport" The three got up and exited the mess hall.

Rolland, Edwards and Roberts entered the brig. Admiral Carnaby stood in front of the main window, looking down upon the flight deck. "Admiral Carnaby?" Rolland said. Carnaby turned around. "Ah, captain, how good to see you" "Admiral George Eric Carnaby" Rolland said. "I hereby put you under arrest for treason against the United States Navy, and the government of the USA. You will be apprehended and put before the court, please stand down and all will be all right" Carnaby backed up "Whatever do you mean, captain? Explain yourself!" He exclaimed. "Don't act innocent, we both know you are a spy and a traitor!" Rolland said. "Please come before me, and we will escort you to the brig" Rolland held up a pair of handcuffs. "Ah, but you see, captain, this be too late already" Carnaby said with a grin on his face. "Why don't you have a look at the horizon?" Rolland, Edwards and Roberts, as well as several officers on deck all looked behind them to the horizon. Rolland walked out to the observation catwalk and peered through his binoculars. He saw one, two- no, three big silhouettes on the horizon, as well as many smaller ones around them. "Russians..." He said. "That's right Rolland; don't you think I overheard your little conversation the other day?" Carnaby said. "I have eyes and ears all over this ship, that's why I am admiral and you're not!" He pointed at Rolland. "This will be end of the 'mightiest vessel in the US Pacific Fleet'!" Carnaby laughed. Roberts suddenly pulled his pistol. "Order those Russians to stand down or I will shoot you!" Roberts said. "Come on, take your best shot!" Carnaby said extending his arms. "Welcome to the New World, comrade!" Carnaby laughed as Rolland pulled his gun and pointed it towards his head. "Order them to stand down!" Carnaby turned his head towards Rolland. "You remember the Reagan disaster?" "Y- Yes?" "That was me." Rolland suddenly filled with anger and pulled the trigger. Carnaby fell down from the catwalk and hit the flight deck, soon surrounded by crewmen. "Admiral's dead?" "The admiral's dead!" The crewmen shouted. "What was that for?" Edwards exclaimed. Rolland stood silent and observed Carnaby's body, then gazing at the Russian ships. "Those are three Kuznetsov carriers, headed right for us! I will explain later, right now: BATTLE STATIONS!"

It's quite obvious like a mole on the face.

The US sailors that aren't spies.
