Game FPS major issue, The Geme slows down in Skrimish.

Hello SWR community!

I'm new to this forum but the game I have been playing for a long while.
I was not aware SWR mods for C&C until last year.

The Rise of the red was a totally amazing mod for sure I love it and it fits perfect to this old legacy game.

Doh I just want to say all is perfect just NOT 100% even for the Stable or official mod release.

when I launch a Skirmish from 1vs1 or 4vs4 it does not matter how it play the game because it always automatically slows the gameplay down from game speed 40 or 60.
it always happens when the AI is building so much and production it feels like the game have a limit pressure until it slows the game speed down and fps drop to as much as 10-5 Fps.
This happens for me at the mid gameplay not at start.

it's very much unplayable mod until this one is fix.

I search for solution and some say Audio HZ, CPU core supported, The Index subfolder, or reinstall and install with following patch in install line for this to fix.
non of these works but I found out one that help stop the game to crash by changing resolution from my standard 2560 1440 to 1920 1080.

I guess something going on with the mod not liking the resolution quality to high???

It's the base game. It have a memory leak bug and was never designed to handle the high quality models and textures. Not to mention the AI engine is really crap. There is only so much you can do about it before reaching somekind of dumb problems and game get lags with more than 3-4 AIs involed.

And yes, you are playing on 2k resolution. It have to load even more stuffs at once. Remember the game only use 1 core of your CPU so it doesn't matter if you have the latest i7, it won't help you if the base speed is slow. Overclocking does help, but not gonna be enough to ensure 4v4 with AI is stable.

In short, no there is nothing that you or the devs can do to fix it until EA release the source code for ZH. And that will never happen. Pretty sure they don't even have it anymore at this point.

The base game C&C zero hour can handle the 2k resolution with stable frame without drops so it's not the that.

Yes it does only use one core for sure. but I think the Mod is not totally supported Because of the new buildings the rushed AI does make the one core have a short time to push more frames.

Look at the ECA and Russian models and compare it to the base game and you'll understand why it doesn't run the same on bigger resolution. Also the base game have brain dead AI while in ROTR they are actually smart for once. It further complicate things.

It's not the mod being poorly made, there are many times where they tried to optimize things with good results but it is clear that the lag could never be completely fixed. 4v4 with AI have always been a bitch, 10 years ago and now not much have changed since then.

The crash due to AI should happen less in the next version but I doubt the lag could improve. Unless you want vanilla ZH stupid AI again, which won't happen.

Good luck waiting for Thyme unless you start coding yourself. It's a great promise but looking at the progress it might take another 10 years till the 1st release. Patience is virtue, but most of us have been there for too long already.

Haha Yeah you right about that mate. not sure about that Mod could be improving from less stress on the cpu if that's the case. There is always ways to code things but to find the exact one is or can be difficult.

Anyways so what is the recommendation for playing skirmish?

2vs2 with hard/brutal enemy on open maps with no chokepoint or bridges should be best. Playing with 10-10k starting money and it kicks your ass especially if the AI is Russia. The longer it lives the more ridiculous it become. Not sure if the Topol still work in the current beta but back then playing ECA is like killing yourself as no defensive line can stop a nuke every 5 minutes.

There is also a beta AI on discord that get updated frequently but as they are for testing bugs are unavoidable. When 1.9 come out officially it will be very different.

Thanks for answer me for this X1Destroy.

I guess this C&C source code will have to be renowned somehow from scratch.
