How does a Guerrilla army have access to an Air force???
Isnt the whole point of a "Guerrilla" warfare faction to use Guerrilla warfare? Underground rebels etc having access to Hooks and planes etc lol?
It doesnt make sense. If i want to use a Guerrilla army, i want to use Guerrilla tactics, not have access to a full blown air force which is very powerful!!
If i want an air force id use USA, Russia, China and ECA! GLA should be soley based on Gurerrilla tactics. You may aswell give GLA a Navy with aircraft carriers as well!

Guerrilla warfare is a form of irregular warfare in which a small group of combatants, such as paramilitary personnel, armed civilians, or irregulars, use military tactics including ambushes, sabotage, raids, petty warfare, hit-and-run tactics, and mobility to fight a larger and less-mobile traditional military.

One does not simply suggest ideas to SWR.

You might as well remove all vehicles from GLA except technicals.

A. 3 airfields with 2 planes each is far from a "full blown airforce".
B. Using "mobility to fight a larger and less-mobile traditional military", is exactly what airforces are traditionally used for.
C.

I'd hardly compare GLA's previous state of power from ZH to ROTR's. Aside from what Zeke said regarding the Airforce, GLA isn't as inferior as before. They are still an amalgamation of irregulars, however now they technically own a "capital" in Central Africa, so having them get access to air power isn't that farfetched.

However the option is still not a core in the faction design, nor is the player obliged to use them as part of the counter system. Take it as this, it's an option that requires a Permission from the Warlord General, Sulayman, since he is the head leader of the GLA, to provide the player with heavier firepower from Central High Command.

In fact, core GLA is more guerrilla than ZH, thematically. They no longer have permanent bases, but rather rely on tunnels for most of their logistics and movements, as well as the fact players are limited to 1 Black Market to keep them at a low-profile. tongue.gif

You have to keep in mind that all Generals abilities are strictly optional. What represents a core army on the battlefield is only what you can always get, everything else is some form of restricted special permission hardware that is lore-wise hard to come by/questionable in use or such. A guerilla-style army like the GLA having some airplanes isn't that unlikely when they have black market connections and can count on various countries giving them under-the-table support, or just flat-out steal/loot the hardware in question (like the Hooks).

Gorillas have thumbs and decent-sized brains - add some ambition and what's stopping them from becoming aces? :8

GLA is still guerrilla army with same tactics. Airfield opening for GP is not making big difference. Yeah they gain access to old aircraft with medium cost/effectiveness ratio. But having 6 aircraft is not meta or balance breaking stuff. It's just one of possible subtactic which can be used in some cases. Rebel ambush and angry mob is much better in most cases because you do not need to spend money for airfield building and making aircraft. But in some games your opponent may start to bunkering even if he not ECA. China can simple place his buildings close to each other and make mines around. USA have microwave tanks and drone hives. So you can just use this moment to go for some air support (not the best choise) but in that case it's better than nothing. I know that people think that GLA airforce is strong enough but this is only because "noone expect GLA aircraft" [Mi-26's pilot ©]. But few T2 AA units just say "NO" to whole GLA air power. This game never was narrowly focused on some meta to each facton. ECA theme is good defence but who says that ECA cannot use decent tanks or airforce like other factions? Yeah Russian tanks much better but who says that Russia cannot use turtle tactics? or USA use blob of infantry with ambulance covering and drone support. China will say "we have better infantry blobs with propaganda" but China also have decent heavy tanks and can use them too. As you see all factions have many ways to use and GLA shouldn't be exeption in this case.

Plus lets be real, flying planes/helicopters isnt that difficult irl, its more the procedures around them that become hard.
When you remove all that and just give some African dude a chopper and say "go press this button to kill these nerds" I would say its pretty realistic for the scenario.
