Aside from several new units, cosmetics and mechanics such as the GLA Recycler feature and the GLA Nuke Truck feature, Version 1.85 will also bring about a groundbreaking change in the technical department, which is one of the things that have been consuming a lot of time and effort.
Today, we are proud to introduce you to... With the termination of several old game servers, including C&C online, many people are looking for new ways to set up their multiplayer matches. We have therefore taken it upon ourselves to develop our own server platform in order to provide a simple, reliable and proprietary way for our community to engage in ROTR multiplayer games. SWR.NET has been in constant development and testing since before the termination of the servers and will be seamlessly integrated in the 1.85 installation. Managing access to it is as simple as activating or deactivating it with a single click in the ROTR launcher. Once you start the game with SWR.NET enabled in the background, you'll be able to find all other active players in the Multiplayer -> Network lobby, from where you create your own game or join any game created by anyone running ROTR. SWR.NET does not require any separate account aside from the 100% client-based user name that you're already using in the original game, which can be changed, deleted or replaced at any time without any strings attached. With this move, we hope to ensure a streamlined, easy to use multiplayer service to ROTR, without the help of any additional third party programs that require you to create a whole new account, in order to facilitate the development of a unified ROTR playerbase around the world. Naturally, there is no way to completely rule out the possibility of mismatches, which may still occur due to connection hiccups or problems with the game code itself, which is after all over ten years old at this point and wasn't really designed with any of the major changes in mind that we implemented - But we wouldn't have been working on this project for such a long time with this level of effort if it wasn't for our love of the game and our dedication to you, the players. As always, we would like to remind all of you out there that there will be another stream on this Sunday: Countdown until the stream starts Also, in case you missed last week's stream, you can check it out on our Youtube channel here -------------------- |

Also do you think that there could ever be something similar for Shockwave? -------------------- |

Yes. This is what I've been looking for.
Reinstalling hamachi screwed up my computer and I don't want to touch it again. This would help alots for people who want to try out PvP matches. -------------------- We Die Standing.

As a matter of fact, I'd like to mention that if this thing wouldn't exist, I couldn't even play this online, because I always froze in the lobby screen if I wasn't the host on Hamachi. Just to give a feeling to you guys about how awesome this thing is.

Finally it's a public knowledge.
Don't need to tell fairy tales about "small private beta-testing network not meant for anything else" when somebody asks about it, anymore. This post has been edited by Knjaz.: 2 Aug 2014, 20:50 |

Really a great innovation for multiplayer games; I was tired of the Hamachi problems.

Hamachi was already obsolete with its horrible connection, good riddance. However, please make this for Shockwave as well so we can start converting GR players.

I was told that this was not going into the public release because you could not pay for the servers? If this has changed, how are you paying for the servers?

I was told that this was not going into the public release because you could not pay for the servers? If this has changed, how are you paying for the servers? You've been told that by me. On purpose. The whole thing was more secret than the actual mod content for last half a year - and that's taking into account first stream was played on SWR. (hence, the hellishly high amount of mismatches during first several months of streams). Somebody accidentally mentioned SWR.net during those streams, and well, we (both devteam and testers) been doing "damage control" Finally it's a public knowledge.

Sorry to repeat myself but is there a good reason this shouldn't be available for Shockwave? I can't speak for everyone but some of us play Shockwave more often, and if it can support half a million players, why not Shockwave players as well?

That doesn't state the reason,i it simply states that Shockwave SWR.Net won't happen until the RotR one is experimented with.
